    Good price, I would go an extra $150 or so and get an iPad but still good, this is the biggest let down though;

    Qualcomm SDM450 Snapdragon 450

I just bought an iPad today and iRegret. iBought this too. :(

    • +11

      iUnderstand

    • If you bought it from an Apple Store, I think they have change-of-mind returns for 2 weeks from purchase date.
Where did you buy it from?

  • +4

Haha great price. Would you believe I got one from this deal- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/442883 then got a refund on that due to buying this deal- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/443387

Wow amazing price! I got mine from the good guy sales and it is a glorious device. Not the best but enough for the general user

  • Said 20% claimed and then went straight to 100% :(

    • +4

There were probably 5 for sale by that math.

Any chance on when restocking? Op can you get more stock.

    • +8

      OP is not Amazon

    • It's a limited quantity deal, not out of stock.
      It's still available for $329

  • awwwwww ofc i missed this.

  • Thoughts (besides form factor) about screen quality and usability coming from iPad Mini 2 to this. I've never seen one of these in the flesh

Missus has a S9+ and is used to android now so that change in fine.

    • +1

It's a great aspect for watching movies.

And not needing to convert your mkv into mp4, losing your subtitles and other language audio.

I miss the open and customizable OS when I'm on my iPad. Apple has decided to make using their products a huge pain in the neck for me.

      • Agreed, the aspect ratio of this screen is great for watching movies and TV shows.

However, can't you just use VLC on an iPad to watch MKV's?

        • You can

        • You can but you have to wifi it over (which also takes longer). Because reasons. And any data from one app is not accessible in another app.

The best mkv player is PlayerXtreme. And it's nowhere near as good as MX Player in customization or even performance despite superior CPU than Androids.

You can't do basic things like organize your videos into separate folders, or even return to the file list after a video is done playing. It just freezes on the final frame.

If Apple's default video player supported mkv, we wouldn't have this problem. You could just use itunes or an alternative CMS (another gripe I have with iOS) and move it over by USB, which would also make the videos accessible to all other video players. I've not heard a convincing reason why Apple disallows this format. Most Apple defenders would use 'security' or protection against 'malware' to defend all sorts of Apple draconian restrictions, but I have difficulty buying a malware argument or seeing a security threat behind an mkv file.

I pretty much do all my movie watching on Android devices where it's a lot more convenient.

    • Don't expect this to perform like an S9+ … Apart from the Samsung on it… They couldn't be further apart.

LCD screen at only 1080p. 4 tiers lower chipset … Half the RAM… And software that will not be updated anywhere near as frequently .. not to mention general andoird apps being poor in tablet optimisation …

Android yes… But really .. the experience in direct comparisons to an S9+ will be polar opposite.

      • Everything you listed is hardware differences.

The person is saying his wife is already used to the OS from the S9+. The OS experience will be almost entirely the same.

It's a lot different than going from Android to iOS, something I find extremely frustrating to adjust to every time I do it, because I'm used to doing things that either can't be done on iOS or require jailbreak.

  • How would this be compared to an iPad Air version 1?

  • I got one of these in the last deal and enjoying it so far. Only minor downside is for some reason when using apps the keyboard just won't appear when you go to type something, no idea what that's about.

Anyway, anybody know of some good covers to get for this. Something preferably with a stand so I can prop it up to watch movies….

    • Try replacing it with Swiftkey or Google keyboard if it fixes the problem…

    • You can try alternate keyboard but to be honest.. it will be down to the processor.. SD450 trying to run Samsung's heavy android skin is always going to have lags.

'Immersive cinema-like viewing experience right at home. Enjoy with your family on the new 10.5" widescreen display.'

Good one Samsung, I think I'll stick to my TV for that purpose.

Just hold it about 3cm from your eyeballs at full brightness. Beats a 75"OLED all day.

    • Yeah but there's nothing as comfortable as laying in bed watching netflix on a tablet.

      • Yeah there is, I have a 65inch htpc in my bedroom and it's fantastic.

        • Well I can imagine that is indeed better, but you need to understand that most people can't set up a 65'' TV and a HTPC in their bedroom haha. I actually had something similar once with a 40'' TV and a chromecast that I set up right on the end of my bed. I watched the first season of house of cards on that and it was just a joy!

Ummm made for Australia icon is very similar to the made in Australia icon and worded very closely, it's somewhat deceptive. It's the wifi version so it wouldn't need specific telco bands. If food was made in China and had the 'made for Australia' icon on it I wouldn't eat it.

  • But was there even any stock at all?

    The truth is out there…..

  • I wanted one for the kids, but back to $329 now. These have been dropping price quite a bit, I suspect they are clearing stock in preparation for https://www.samsung.com/au/tablets/galaxy-tab-s5e-t725/SM-T7…

  • Decent deal, processor and ram a little on the low side but not bad at all. Wonder what the price of the S5e will be.

    • $400 US… So at least $600 by the time it lands here.

Unless you absolutely must have android, you are far better off with entry level iPad for only $150 more than this tab A.

If you need / want android…you really do need to spend more money to get something that will work well - tab s or huawei media pad

If you are good with stuff, get a Lenovo P8 ( tab 3 plus ) for $250 and put lineage OS on it.. but otherwise cheap Android tablets generally do suck

      • Yeah fully agree with all of that, for some reason I am obsessed with Android tablets, use them for lecture slides and saves me from having to carry my Surface to Uni everyday. I have a Mi Pad 3, 4 and a Alldocube X. Battery life on the Alldocube X is miserable which is why I am back on the market.

I really want an Android tablet with a keyboard, Samsung seem to be the only one to offer such a thing, the Tab 5e is so thin, what a dream. But yeah it will not be worth the 600. Maybe on sale at good guys ebay or something for 500.

Otherwise I'd just get a Mi Pad 4 Plus, oh man the rom support is ridiculous, they finally released the kernels and with Android 10 having a "desktop mode" that be awesome.

I want to use Android tablets like fake laptops LOL.

  • Great tablet. Battery lasts ages!

  • Can anyone tell me what the streaming of Netflix is like with this. It looks like Optus slow it to 1.5 Mbps. I was hoping I could use this as my only internet and steam Netflix to my Samsung TV from a tab S4 but worried about the ability to do that if Optus slow the speed to 1.5mbps

  • Can this device run SBS on Demand? My old Tab A 8" couldn't.

  • Why are tablets so underpowered compared to phones, price wise they seem so overpriced.

I bought my son a Xiaomi Mi Max 2, 6.44inch screen phone, 1920x1080 (342PPI), 4gb RAM, 64gb ROM, Snapdragon 625 Octa Core 4G, bought for $210 new from eBay.

I would love specs like this in a 7 or 8 inch device, but then suddenly the specs drop and the price tags stays the same or goes up even? Urgh…

    • I'm guessing, but it may have to do with the lower volumes and the increased sizes of the screens. Both play a factor in the cost of the device for the manufacturer.

  • I have one. It is bulky and heavy (compared to my Tab S2) but the battery life is massive. Its a very good device. Year/model actually matters with this line and older ones not so good. This is better by FAR for watching movies than the Tab S2. Tab S2 better for everything else. Sound is very good from speakers if you can't use headphones. Games run OK.

    • Do you use a cover or screen protector? If so any recommendations? I just got one and like it so far but would like these 2 things I mentioned above

      • No screen protector, its not really the same need as phones that get used everyday and hangout in pockets etc. Maybe for kids. We have a full blown case that shuts off the device when it closes, not sure of brand etc. but yes buy a case. Any case is good, the kids tablet has a padded zipper case perfect for travelling and hard knocks but that one is a bit ugly/cumbersome for an adult using it for work. Officeworks has a good range.

  • Looking at buying a tab, how does this compare with Xiaomi mi pad 4.

Comparing it on here Mi pad 4 looks better spec wise.
