horrible res. would not buy.
Useless resolution. haha.
surely that resolution is a typo - 1024x768 is 4:3 ratio, no?
perhaps it should read 1280x720?
Rectangular pixels.
1024x768 is fine for day to day viewing, I still have a Panasonic 42 plasma from 2006 with the same resolution, still using it and still quite happy with it. If you just sit down and watch the thing you'd never know but if you're the type to examine something rather than simply enjoy it, get something better.
Good for my wii.. haha..
Good for my wii
good idea, could do with one in the toilet…
What do you do with your wii in the toilet?
Once I'm done I flush it! ;)
play with it
1024 x 768 is a 4:3 aspect ratio — what happens if you play 16:9 media on it? Do you get black bars?
These panels have rectangular pixels dude, as Stix said! One thing though, if you did get black bars they'd be a nice crisp black, being plasma & all! /jk/ ;)
shipping is free???
No.
SHIPPING IS $45
Free pick-up..
Assuming it lasts more than 5 years, would it be better to pay a bit more and get better quality and enjoy it more.
My research has found this brand is easily the funkiest of the TV manufacturers.
Terrible, terrible res. Why even post this as a bargain. bargain for who? Old people who cannot see. I never vote negative for things on here but there's a first time for everything.
irrespective of resolution, when you find a cheaper, new 42" plasma, then you can claim this is not a bargain.
until then, it is.
Sad but true. Post any better TV…..
Doesn't mean it's a bargain because it's cheap. It's a crap TV and if you pay a couple of extra hundred you'll get a full HD 1080P TV. Maybe go post it on Ozcrappyitemsbargains.com.au.
you've contradicted yourself:
1) Doesn't mean it's a bargain because it's cheap … that's generally what a bargain is.
2) pay a couple of extra hundred … and you've paid 50% more, possibly out of the price range of many.
do you have first hand experience to state that it is a crap TV ?
Bought this off oo.com.au earlier and was alright until a couple of months later about 10 red "rain" lines about an inch thick started appearing an inch apart from each other from the right edge to the centre of the screen. so buyer beware
Are there even any other 42inch plasma's out there for sale any more, that are as horrible as 1024x768 ?
1024*768 is a regular high definition panel….always available thru LG Samsung or Panasonic…..I dont see what the big deal is
1024*768 is not regular or high definition.
1024 * 768 has been around for years nothing irregular about it.
It has always been classed as HD resolution.
No, it has never been considered HD.
HD is 1920 x 1080. Considering the 1024 x 768 standard rez on an old 17inch monitor as being HD is nothing short of laughable.
It's not a terrible deal, but not that great - there's a lot of cheapie full HD 42" LCDs out there for $500.
some people prefer plasma to lcd
Telekunken is still a german brand? used to be top quality in the 80s
Sansui, Rank Arena, Telefunken and many other "old brand names" have been purchased by wholesalers and are now used to rebadge generic Chinese electronics. Sad really, but the fact that we remember them means that the desired effect was created.
Absolutely correct, and FWIW they occasionally use the 'zombie brand' names to rebadge some local Korean brands too! Some of the AWA sets have been rebadged KTV branded units, that have an excellent reputation in Korea, IIRC they might even be top-tier locally there too; much like Haier, Hisense & TCL in China! :)
It's a little bit random, and confusing with different models & brands for each rebadged product line; but there are some good bargains to be had if you're a bit savvy!
I always check the model number on the back of the set instore & google it before I make a decision, once you know the original manufacturer's reputation & that particular model's performance, reliability & reviews you can make a more informed decision! ;)
crappy resolution?
