physical giftcard still working
How to get physical giftcards?
When did this stop?
I can't offer a specific date, but around late last year supermarkets updated their self-checkouts.
nah, still works
I know it stopped with woolies but was there a thread about Coles?
Can we buy Coles Gift Mastercard through eGift Card?
No.
I purchased several with a gift card last October and prior to that also but not at a self checkout.
Not a particularly good deal, considering that you can get 5% off Coles digital gift cards through Suncorp (with a free bank account) and a few other places.
The $5 purchase fee kills it.
It's still $5 for free, and a way to earn 3 Amex points per dollar on a card you can use to pay anything that accepts MC.
card you can use to pay anything that accepts MC
Use the purchased MC to buy your next digital gift card on the Suncorp app! #cardception
"one per flybuys account"
Anyone know from experience if your family members who have a separate card under your account are eligible?
No they’re not.
I do not believe they are. It is still one account. I have 5 separate accounts and this is one of the reasons.
Wish the Coles gift mastercard works with staff discount like Woolies.
Aww would have picked it up if it was for google play credits
Yeah I'm getting desperate for some good play credits.
Do I get 2000 points for each card, ie 4000 points in total or only 2000 points even if buying 2 cards (Coles MasterCard and Restaurant Choice card) ?
One per account
can you use flybuy dollars?
Wanting to know the answer for this too. Used to be able to, maybe around 6 months or so ago.
Not for gift card.
Yes, I tried to do this and the system does not allow it.
They don't want people like yourself to be rorting the system anymore being dodgy.
@neirboca: Paying for gift cards with Flybuys…how scandalous.
yes if you have a coles credit card linked with it
Be very carefull when purchasing the Mastercard and maybe others. I purchased five $100 cards last October. None of them worked. I purchased them at a manned register and neither I or the operator noticed any problems with them. After one did not work, in store I opened the cardboard packets and checked balances. In fact some of the cards inside were VISA cards, one was a $50 card Mastercard and all had been spent. Before I opened them I checked the outside and they did not look like they had been tempered with. I had to email Coles with photos of the cards, cardboard cases and receipts. Fortunately they credited me the face value of the cards. Since then I have looked at many physical gift cards and the ones where the card is not sealed up inside are probably safer. I will purchase these on this offer but will take the card out and check that the numbers on the back of the card (card id) match those below the bar code.
Apart from checking the card Id. Your receipt should have been said Approved or Decline. Every time when I buy gift card I will check it has been approved, sometime even when it decline, the check out person can just click Yes and it will still print the receipt.
The message the check out person click on should say activation declined, please refund the customer.
All the receipts stated approved. The problem was not that the cards were not activated. The problem was that someone had substituted the plastic cards in the cardboard cover with ones that had been used. Then they could check the balances on the cards they had. When I purchased the cardboard covers with the dud plastic cards, the cards that they had their possession and not the ones I had, were activated and they could use them. Yes checking the receipt may also be useful to ensure the cards get activated but I was told that this is done automatically.
New kind of scam as what you have described.
@SnoozeAndLose: Not entirely new. I approached 2 Coles stores to fix the issue. Staff at both were aware of this happening. When I googled it I found discussions in US and employees were suspected. But I think this would be the case where the cards are kept behind the counter. In our supermarkets it is easy for people to temper with them and even to take them home, substitute the cards and return them. This scam is detailed here from Jan 2018.
https://ejgiftcards.com/new-gift-card-not-working-the-most-c…
In the last year and a bit I have purchased more than a hundred Coles mastercard gift cards, without a single issue.
I have also purchased many and as I said in my original post will purchase these again as this is a good deal. However there are other cards which are more temper proof than this Mastercard. For example, the ultimate card and the VISA GC. With the VISA the part that is scanned/activated are the numbers on the actual plastic card not numbers printed on the cardboard cover which may not match the card inside. I just want members of our community to be wary and take precautions like I will now but without the bad experience and the time it took to fix it.
Why does it say only $100 gift mastercards in the post. The terms and conditions state you can use $50 gift mastercards for the promotion as well. Do these work on pin or sign. Can you tap them as well.
Good pickup. For those of us using it to maximise Amex points, $100 still a better deal, though $50 better for anybody else.
There are some a holes who take all the stock of these in city stores before the promo start date. I suspect they have multiple flybuys accounts and come back later to activate them. And I realise I'm probably giving more a holes ideas here, but I just wanted to vent my frustration at this practice for all the honest and fair ozbargainers out there who are happy to just collect one lot of flybuys points.
You think they basically steal them without activating? Or hiding them among slow moving groceries? I have noticed how few Uber gift cards are available when the promo is on, usually in the city stores.
Either or I guess. Same result. I guess it's unlikely anyone is gonna bust them for stealing them since they are normally worthless without activation.
Which is why they keep them unguarded out the front…all the same, it's stealing, and it begs the question why you'd risk prosecution for taking worthless items.
@JohnHowardsEyebrows: And why they are so easy to temper with.
If you are referring to world square Coles, i went thare 8am and they are 2 rows of $100 about $50 of them, but when i return for the second one at 10am they are all gone
seemed readily avialble at the stores I visited today
Yep, and the one I bought worked fine.
where was that? No lucky in Sydney CBD @ worldsquare….
vic!
Five or 6 $50 cards in Bentleigh, Vic about 1 hour ago.
From the wording it looks like you can also get the bonus points by buying the $50 Mastercard gift card.
They put the $100 card image just to throw you off the scent.
Also, I paid wirh an egiftcard and it went fine — although I did buy another item too (the half-priced Reese’s ice cream).
Yes I purchased $50 cards and paid with a gift card at a manned checkout. It's reasonably clear from the description.
It's such a pity its only 1 per account
Unlike woolworthsWhy would they try and hide it.. It doesn't matter if you buy a $50 or $100 egift card. You are still paying $5 for 2000 bonus points.
Does anyone know what name do we use when we use this online?
Luke skywalker
Thanks. In that case I call dibs on Darth Vader
I.P. FREELY
Got my 2000 pts about 24 hours after purchase
Its odd how some stores have heaps of a particular card but another has heaps
Did you get the $50 or $100 card?
$100
The store i went to only has the $50 cards left so i suspect only the $100 cards would qualify for the bonus
@bonz: I purchased 5 $50 cards on 5 separate accounts. I have checked 2 and received 2000 points (Coles Giftcards Offer 20 Mar-26 Mar). It may be that people thought it only applied to the $100 because they were pictured in the catalogue and how many people read the fine print. Of course the bonus is higher on the $50 card but you get less $$ on the cards.
@Yola: Thanks for the confirmation Yola, i'm more interested in the flybuys points than the amount on the card
@bonz: Yes me too, that's why I purchased the $50 ones.
@Yola: But the bonus points are the same for the $50 or $100 cards
@jdogg: Yes but the discount is bigger on $50 cards. So if you are mostly interested in the points rather than say qualifying for a required card spend you would purchase the $50 cards. I may not have made myself completely clear.
@Yola: Unless you are using an Amex Plat Edge, giving you 3 Krisflyer miles per dollar (until mid-April), in which case the $100 is a great way to get a high points earn for spend for places which don't take Amex/extract a large surcharge.
@Yola: But if you were just interested in the points, the $100 cards would still be better because you earn flybuys points for the purchase plus the bonus (so for a $100 gift card you earn 2105 points and for a $50 card you earn 2055 points). You still pay the same activation fee for either card.
@bonz: Which Store?
@SnoozeAndLose: I think it was Fairfield west or Smithfield, not too sure as it was several days ago. But found heaps of both values at Fairfield forum
Plenty of $50 & $100 cards at Coles world Sq, Sydney….picked up 2…paid via Coles GC…
Safe to say the self-checkout eGift card days are over?
