This is a really crap offer for those of us with a Reliant Robin Mk 3

    • +1

      You own one?
It's probably a good buy really. You get a free spare.

      • A spare doesn't need to be a new tyre.

  • -2

Never understood these promotions - buy 3 and get 1 free. Who buy three tyres.

I see folks are getting good deals but its just the way its promoted…. buy 3 tyres just gets me.

    • +1

It's pretty straight forward to me… A percentage discount wouldn't sound as good.

    • For those that need to replace 4 tyres then the buy 3 get 1 free would sound like a deal obviously

  • +1

like a shoe shop, buy 1 shoe get 1 free

    • +1

Buy 1, buy one half price.

  • These tyres any good then? Not a brand I've ever used before…

    • Well given my dads gotten 90,000kms to a set of retreads, I'm of the belief tyres are generally pretty fine for normal cars driving in normal conditions. But hey if you wanna say my tyres are $3000 and you think that's gonna help you… Well :)

As long as they aren't the cheapest and nastiest with road noise I don't care either way imo.

      • Retread on a passenger vehicle?
I thought that wasn't legal here

        • Unless something changed recently? He did it all the time. Drives upwards of 80,000km a year, 70yo, no accidents..

          • @scuderiarmani: Where did he get it retreaded? I do believe you can't do it more than 3 times and that's for commercial vehicles

            • @rtk74: He bought retreads, never did it himself.

And I don't believe he's ever retreaded the same tyre either.

It was more an issue when 16s were expensive, now not so as they are more or less normal…

But they last just as long, I believe you are told to stick to below a certain speed, but that's above the limit…

        • Retreads are not illegal, although I wouldn't bother with them as you can get winruns from tyroola which are great for about $60-$70.

Pretty good grip in wet/dry Conditions and my driving is very spiritual ;)

Been looking at tires last week, as damaged one of my Hankook Dynapro A/T 4wdriving last weekend.
Couple things I have hound out, Hankook owns Jax tires & the AT's are a 2 ply wall, not 3. Would also say that from my contact with Hankook Australia re my tire damage, they are not interested in customer service and were no help with my issue at all.

  • I'm a total noob in terms of tyres - getting 4 x Optimo K415 215/60R16 95V tyres for the cost of 3 ($375), is this a good deal? The reviews on the tyre seem to be pretty good.

My previous experience with bob janes: I was advised by bob janes guy to get a quota from any other tyre companies to get lowest price first then they will match it. Then I got quota from its competitor T (better not mention the name), and called back to Bob Janes. The bob janes guy asked me the source and put me on hold while calling that company T (what I could hear over the phone was the bob janes guy blamed the company T for qouting the low price, and threatened to report to the Brigdestone for that quotation) . Few minutes later, he told me that they can’t match it as that company T is dodgy. I felt sorry for the company T and went back and apologised. Company T was still happy to keep its previous quotation and told me that be careful with bob janes in the future, and bob janes is very powerful.

My advice is to get bob janes quota first, then if any other company could beat it (more than likely someone will be able to beat it). you can go with it. DONT GO BACK TO BOB JANES for another bargain.

    • I don't know how Bob Jane is still around, $80 for a front wheel alignment and tyre prices are a joke most days.

    • I would avoid bobs (and vegana of) jane and goto Costco next week.

    • Our local Bob Jane has a bad bad reputation…
Ridiculously arrogant when I went to price tyres for my 4wd, seems I dodged a bullet when I was shopping around.
I then heard nightmare stories that they quote low, but once they've got your car on the hoist, there's a problem and the price goes up, if you don't pay, they refuse to let your car down. I've also heard stories where they pull out the 'duty of care' card when refusing to do so, whilst doing so and blackmailing and forcing.
I've heard this and other similar nightmare stories from different groups of friends.
I simply don't know how their doors are still open.
