Tomorrow The Islamic Council of Victoria are having open days at many of their mosques, as they have for the last couple of years. As part of this they are also opening the Islamic Museum of Australia for free to the public. As they note, gold coin donation is welcome but not required. It's normally $12 for adults and $10 for concession.

They will have the following activities:

Guided Tours: 10am, 12pm and 3pm

Meet and Greet Bachar Houli, Richmond Football Club: 1 - 2pm

Ramadan Lecture by Ismail Davids: 11am

Kids Activity - Build Your Own Mosque: 11am - 2pm

Book Reading: Aneesa and Jamal go to Masjid: 2pm

There is also a sausage sizzle for a gold coin donation.

There is more information here about the open day and mosques that are participating in the open day.

yes, yes. violence is the answer!

        • Violence?? LOL

  • It needs good security, really good security after yesterday…..

    • Oooooh, yeah gotta watch out… For that thing, by those people, for that reason.

      I love fantasy, too.

      But that's just FUD.

  • Good timing. Thanks mate

Listen here folks. If you have a problem with Muslims or Islam take it offline. I can't be bothered for keyboard warriors this morning and can't tolerate hate speech.

    • +1

      take it offline.

Take it to a mosque in Christchurch?

    • +1

So then you log off/ignore them if you ‘can’t be bothered’. People are entitled to voice their opinions, whether they are similar to yours or polar opposites. I’m not justifying what they are saying, I think you and I would be of a similar opinion to be honest, but you can’t tell someone to take it elsewhere just because you ‘can’t be bothered’. Ignore it.

Haha looks like the internet and free speech policy have arrived! If you don't like it, don't look, people are entitled to their own opinions.

Anyone in Sydney I'm happy to take you for a free tour to my local mosque.

    • Thats a kind offer :). Unfortunately im in qld. Have a +

    • My wife & I saw some impressive architecture in Malaysia. Big travellers, open minded. Thought we'd see what we could learn at the mosque. Nothing, signage said something to the effect of no women or non-believers.
Dubai didn't seem the place either, yet we visited a museum there that we thought was excellent. Not Muslim-specific, but obviously intertwined.

wow the censorship on this thread… barely read anything in the comment sections. Saw it 4 pages long but only seeing moderated comments…

    • +2

Hate speech must be censored. You can't even think of this?

      • +3

I agree. You talk shit you get slammed.

need more conversation, less this kind of designate tour….

Having been to my local mosque and the museum today they were very welcoming and open to questions. At the mosque they said they have people come by and ask questions and people are welcome not just on the open days. On the museum tour they were open to questions. People were having a chat with the staff in the entrance area of the museum.

At the mosque they invited people into the prayer room to ask questions and then afterwards to their restaurant for food and a chat. I had a chat with a Muslim, a Catholic and another atheist.

I am deeply sadden whenever I read the news.

People are just evil and selfish.

Killing each other because of skin colour or religion.

Why I have a feeling all of this is being orchestrated to create chaos.

I have no hope for humanity.

My future donations and charity will go to animals and endangered species.

The tensions is already there so people do not create unnecessary friction. We don't want a war here.

In the meantime…. Hope to see some sunlight soon.

    Peace out!

  • I went to the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar 🇶🇦 which was impressive. Is it any good as this one?

    • +1

There's one in Kuala Lumpur. Took us a whole day from what I remember.

    • Unlikely to be in the same league, and the intention is different if the review near the top of the comments is accurate; more focused on the history of Islam in Australia, and not funded by billions of petrodollars and state backing.

May still be worth visiting though :)

    No thank you.

    Slippery slope.

He who hates will forever reap hate. He who censors will forever deal with censorship.

  • anyone there yet? how is it??

I'm not Not from Vic and not going to any mosque but I wouldn't feel human if I didn't up this vote.

Most mosques in othe cities also have open days. If you are interested, ask at your local mosque.

And then off to ride the unicorn with Yennnifer. ;)

      • Who wouldn't? 😉

  • +3

if only religions could be kept in Museums we wouldn't have all this evil madness still…

    • +2

But it wasn't the religious who committed the NZ massacre. That's blaming the victim.

    • +3

if only religions could be kept in Museums we wouldn't have all this evil madness still…

Apparently the killer was an atheist. If only atheists could be kept in museums……….

      • Well said jv

Thanks OP. I’d try and go but I’m in Sydney. I know you can’t compare the two but I’ve been to the the Islamic Art Museum in KL and it’s impressive I thought. A must do if your ever in Malaysia.
