MLN you have done it again!
I would be raping this deal, but i just bought a new lappy last month.
I especially like the : dedicated GPU for multimedia, high quality speakers and sound processing, 2mb L2 cache, HDMI port.
Many lower end lappys are getting the features of more expensive models which is nice to see.

    • +2

      The HD4200 is integrated.

      • +2

Yep, very misleading. Should really read "AMD HD4200". People assume Radeon means dedicated, but AMD are now using it to sell integrated chips in the same way Intel is.

        • +3

Thats what the chipset is, nothing more or less.
          see the AMD/ATI website,
integrated graphics are not what they used to be.
no dedicated memory has been mentioned or the word dedicated been used.
This is not a bad onboard graphics controler, when comparred to older onboard controllers, and it deserves a mention.
It has been advertised exactly according to what it is.

        • +2

I don't think it's misleading. The Radeon brand has been used for ATI chipsets with integrated graphics going back to at least 2005. My first Battlefield 2 games were on a Radeon Xpress 200M. To whatever extent anyone thinks it is misleading, it's ATI/AMD's fault.

        • It isn't misleading but it would be in good faith to mention it is integrated as some consumers are not aware.

  • Yeah very good price.

  • +3

    Awesome sub-$400 lappy IMHO! :)

  • +1

Good deal for a basic web browsing PC. Not ideal for the gaming side of things, but @ that price its a good net PC :D

  • +2

well… well… well… I just went to Heidleberg store, and rep said this offer applies from tomorrow… got home empty hand… should i neg this deal - considering even this is fantastic deal..

    • +1

You should of called up before u went…:D thats what i normally do

      • +1

But you can order this online from today, and the store at west melbourne said its from Today..

        • you can order it.
stock will be everywhere tommorrow anyway.

    • +2

Should've punched him (not literally). Advertised here and fb, don't see any mention of it starting tomorrow (unless it says so on fb)

  • +1

Probably had no stock with them at the moment only as the deal just launched today, All stores will receive main deliveries tommorrow.

  • +1

Imagine how cheap this would be without the Windows Tax!

    • +1

At best that would only be a -$20 discount.

      • W7 Premium OEM price is only around $20 you say? In that case it is a pretty minor cost to add-on.

        • +1

Not exactly - big manufacturers like asus and dell get windows cheap (sometimes free, I've heard, at one point when Vista was very unpopular) as a high-volume discount and to keep it established as the dominant OS. You can't actually buy an OEM copy of win 7 with a DIY PC at this price.

  • -1

Rep It is pity some has to go back empty handed after you posted here and FB.Are you going to compensate him for the trouble? I think that will be to prove your standard of CRM principles

    • Please visit the store you went to Tommorrow if you like

    • +4

You don't know all the details. Just read about a one sided argument of a disgruntled customer for whatever reason. This rep is the most hardworking and responsive I've seen on here.

      • He might be a hard working Rep.But he agreed that it is available only from tomorrow after someone goes to shop and post his experience. He mentioned that "in stock at all stores and offer available only while stock lasts". If you are not living around the shop it is really inconvenient and waste of time. I just asked him, is he going to make this particular customer happy? I don't think I am discrediting the rep or the offer.

        • with my case,, i travelled little far… Customers are always wrong.. I should have called them before.. but i have let it go.. considering it took me only 40 mins to travel and public transport on sundays are horrible.

  • Putting this link here, mainly for myself
    http://www.asus.com.au/Notebooks/Versatile_Performance/X52N/

I haven't googled it yet but, does anyone have experience trying to run say, Office 2002, Quicken 2002 or other older programs on a 64 bit operating system like Windows 7?

    (and/or finding drivers for printers)?

    :)

    • +1

I haven't googled it yet but, does anyone have experience trying to run say, Office 2002, Quicken 2002 or other older programs on a 64 bit operating system like Windows 7?

LOL! Hang on a tic foundit, I'm just waiting for the lightning to strike the clock tower so I can get the DeLorean back to 2002 to grab some copies! :p

Seriously though, it shouldn't be a problem if the 64bit version of Win7 you have runs WOW32 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa384249%28v=vs.85%2…

Failing that, there's plenty of good VM programs out there; it's been a while since I last used it but VMware was always good, and IIRC an open source job called VirtualBox!

Also, the native windows driver base is pretty good for older printers I reckon, it's picked most older ones I've ever thrown at it! ;)

      • You could check dooverlackies, they generally carry out dated stock for abnormal prices.

      • Thanks Stew :)

-> Tomsco, thanks :) What I meant was, I have the old apps at the moment and wondered if I could run them on a new notebook like this.

        • For my reference, I've installed Office 2002 but setting up clipart folders for Word hung, when I left it to search folders by itself (after progressing through a number of folders).

          Quicken 2002 installed okay.

Installing Ulead Video Studio 8 worked fine but when installing utilities, specifically Indeo, installation hung when the installer went to do a search for any copies of Netscape.

2 incidents -> hypothesis that 32 bit architecture software will have problems searching with some/all folders on a 64 bit system

That said, so far the notebook seems good for my purposes

        • More reference and warnings to anyone looking at upgrading to Win 7.

Outlook XP - I must type in the passwords for my email accounts every single time as Windows 7 no longer allows storage of passwords the way Outlook used to do it.

Wacom Graphire Graphics tablet - do not put old software on. Get the latest Vista compatible program for it from Wacom. Either it or a software patch from Microsoft are incompatible with Paint Shop Prox X, XI, Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Ovi Suite.

ASUS backup software that comes with this, does not work properly. (15 discs wasted, trying to get that to work)

        • Guys
I know there is a simple fix for this, I just cannot remember what it was,
          still looking.

  • +2

I have a integrated 4200 GPU in my HTPC, while not brilliant does run older 3D games, way way better than the intel integrated that is the norm in this price range.

  • Not bad deal.. Just got one for my Parents.. It will do the job..

  • How much does MLN charge to include a genuine copy of Microsoft Office?

  • Great price, just pulle3d the trigger on this one. Needed something for the bedroom.

  • Would this be good enough to play HD video? or maybe even do basic editing with it? would photoshop work well or is it basically an internet computer that is quite basic?

    • yes you can do these things, limitations with editing will come with 3D rendering, so I dont think it will a problem for basic use.
Correct me if I am wrong guys

      • Yes, it is definitely sufficient to do these things with ease.

  • What is the going rate for this laptop? I can't find it at many places.

  • Bummer…..no brisbane store~~

  • -> MLN

are you able to do a deal on the 2 year extended warranty?

    • +1

All out of the norm deals and extra offers can be negotiated in store.
I would recommend you try your luck and test your bargaining skills on the staff in store.

  • For those of you in Sydney - I went to "On Line Centre' in capital square (Chinatown) and they price matched this deal at $427 ($398+$29shipping).

This meant I didn't have to wait to get it shipped. Their number is (02) 9211 0898

  • -> MLN

I just realized there are no driver or operating disks. It's all installed, but in case I need to rebuild it later, can I burn/order the disks from somewhere?

    • +1

As with all notebooks now, its inbuilt into a hidden partition,
you can make your own recovery discs with the built in software, this is usually preferred as most people dont like having to re-isntall every single application again, rather just setup your pc once, create one image with all of your desired base programs, then image.
So your restore point is actually not just the operating system and nothing else, but rather a point you can actually start using your PC from properly again will all your applications installed as well.

  • Has anyone else played a DVD in their notebook?

I got a bit of green blocking, especially at the start of the show.
The blocking cleared up after a minute or so (with just a few blocks appearing through the rest of the show)

Has anyone found a good slim bag for the notebook? :) (thinking a tiny bit of padding to prevent scratches, a handle, zips up and can be slipped into a backpack) :)

  • Has anyone tried the AI recovery Burner? I've been giving it a shot, but it keeps failing on the 3rd DVD :S

about 6 discs failed validation so far :S

    • I have seen this a few times, I cant remember what the solution was right now, but I remember it being something simple. I recommend you contact the point of purchase as they will be able to help you with this, meanwhile I will ask the tech dept.

      • How'd it go with the tech department? :)

  • This deal is back by the way, it just got relaunched, we now have more stock available.

  • It's an expired offer that expired a couple of weeks ago; you might want to launch a new post for this offer saying you can offer it again.

Also, I tried putting a 16GB SDHC card in the reader and it read it. Maybe the reader in the notebook is not just SD as listed (4GB max) but SDHC :)

Reference for myself/others: I put a DVD from a different region in the notebook. Instead of asking me, do I want to change the region of my DVD player (as I saw in Windows XP), my system simply crashed :P Testing the DVD in a multi region DVD player showed the DVD is fine. So … I don't know if it's device specific or Windows 7 specific, but, it's something to avoid :P

  • Not sure myself,
yes all readers are SDHC now,
I have found when I repost older deals, I get a lot of hate, so its best if I don't, also after my last listing not sure if the guys like my deals as much as I think they are good.

    • ah, k, I learn something new … well, often :)

    • Can you do any deals on Microsoft Office 2010 and/or Microsoft Outlook 2010?

  • yes, we do these deals generally in store only.
