how does this compare to the jb one?

    • +1

I assume Fetch would be doing the refurb for the JB refurbs, so just a case of taking to JB if warranty needed vs shipping.

      • Guess JB warranty would probably be better

JB Dealt with Sony on my benefit for TV warranty

        • +1

Retailer warranty being better than manufacturer warranty has never been my experience for any warranty claim.

          • @ajole: Just out of interest (honest question), is retailer warranty not technically manufacture warrant? In the sense that the retailer will send the item off to the manufacturer? The difference being a trip to the shops (which you may already be making) or the cost to ship the item to the manufacturer.

            • @tomsco: Manufacture and retail warranty are just voluntary offerings to improve sales. They may be the same or one better than the other. Generally it convenience that means you go to the retailer.

In all cases you are also covered by statutory warranty which is a legal obligation. For example a good tv can be reasonably expected to last 5-8 years and should be repaired for free during that time.

  • Fetch vs Telstra Tv?

    • +1

Telstra TV is just a locked down Roku

      Get vodafone TV instead

    • I have both and Fetch kicks it out of the park for 90% of daily use. Gap is for Showtime (HBO) shows and Fox sports being only available via Foxtel Now on telstra tv box (plus a few smart tvs I think)

  • I am on my 3rd fetch box over 4 years after the HDD failed in the last 2. There is a good chance one of these will be the ones I returned with a new HDD in. I would not buy this expecting it to last much longer than the warranty they are slapping on these (24 months) so amortise the costs accordingly: basically it works out to be the same if you rented from your ISP ($10/month).

    • +1

Can you just replace the HDD or is it sealed

      • +1

Never tried. From what I can gather all their software is on the HDD and is encoded. You could possibly copy it over etc. But I don't know if it would work. Fetch might shut down your machine remotely if they detect any tampering too.

    • Hahahaha, getting your returned box would be interesting, hope they will give a new remote?
I found that ISP plans with fetch are generally more expensive, i am thinking of getting my own fetch and ditching the ISP
      Optus 24 month = 2160 @ 90 pm ( i have excluded upfront $99)
You can get same NBN plan for around $60 that = $1440. One is left with $720, minus the $6 pm for one basic channel which Optus provide you have 720-144=576. Finally minus the box cost $576 - $265 = $311
One is $300 richer if they buy this box and source their own internet.
PS: Not good at maths happy to be corrected.

      • Math looks ok, but your choice of ISP at $60 a month is pretty limited, and the Optus plans does include Australia wide calls if that matters. The $10/month fetch rental value comes from Aussie broadband IIRC.

      • $60 nbn would only be like 24mbps

      • "Sorry - these boxes can't be added to existing Fetch accounts with your ISP" This insn't going to cause you problems with your plans?

  • Is the Fetch Mighty UI snappy?

I have the old 2nd generation which Optus never asked back when I left them 2 years ago, but the UI is slow and does my head in. I'd would consider this if it's not a lag fest.

    • Yes UI is fast and intuitive, got a JB HiFi one that was as good as new just pay $1 to activate. After activation they gave a free movie credit so offsets the $1 activation cost.

      +
Has an app to remotely view TV guide and schedule recordings etc
Series recording has been good, also customisation with added buffer options either side of recording.
      Passed the wife proof test
Skip adverts up to x32 speed

      -
Can only seem to view paid movies/shows within app not TV recordings or live TV

      • Sounds pretty good to me. Thanks :)

  • I traded my TiVo for a fetch.

I want my TiVo back :(

  • "They can be used on eligible broadband connections from any provider, and can be added to existing Fetch retail accounts as multiroom boxes. Sorry - these boxes can't be added to existing Fetch accounts with your ISP."

Can someone explain what this means?
EG. I'm using optus with no other current fetch devices.

    • +1

Poor English, but I think what they mean is you can use with any NBN/ADSL provider & if you already have a Fetch account (Direct with them not via Optus IInet etc as part of an internet/TV bundle) you can link a new Fetch mighty to it for multi room.

    • +1

Important. Any existing fetch packages from your ISP won't work with these boxes.

Note all ISPS only lease fetch boxes, you never own them. These you can buy and keep and multi room and get packages first from fetch

  • Does anyone know how the video output compares to the fetch mini? I know its 4k but does that mean it will upscale all channels or only ones supporting 4k?

    • It only does 4k when the content provided is 4k. IE Netflix. No upscaling

      • Thanks for letting me know! So the regular channels should look the same on the mighty too? I noticed a slight decline in quality of the freeview channels when I watch them through the fetch mini as compared to the regular cable input.
