    It's a good machine I'd recommend it.

    • Its just me and my missus at our place, she doesn't drink coffee. Seems a bit wasteful to splash out.

Currently spend about $20 a week on cafe coffee if im at the office. Or if im on the road, about $5 (7-11 $1 coffee).

How would you rate this machine for beginners? I read theres a lot of trial and error to get a decent brew. I pretty much only drink long blacks or ice ling blacks.

My inlaws have this machine and I use it occasionally - I can make a decent coffee on most machines but for some reason I can't on this. I believe its the non pressurized basket is the culprit for the trial and error. But if you get it right, its apparently better and more 'cafe' style coffee (i.e. stronger, bolder, more caffeine)

Same situation for me. My missus doesn'y drink coffee but I save that money each week and the machine has already paid for itself. I turn on the machine while I get ready and it only takes 5mins to make a cuppa in a take away container.

Worst part of single consumer in the household are the bean shelf life expires before I use them all up. I just buy Aldi Beans and am happy with it, and because I don't like waste I keep drinking it until it's empty.

In terms of trial and error, it is really hard to make a barrista grade coffee, however it's still often better than some I've had, and sometimes it's worse than instant. So yes, there is a learning curve but it's fun and also nice to offer guests when they are around a "real" coffee. They won't taste the difference.

  • For those of you that use the Aldi beans and have this machine - what settings do you use to get the best coffee out of it?

    • Depends on how "fresh" the beans are. I find that when I open a new packet I need to adjust the settings, and as the shelf life fades I need to adjust it.

Just trial and error until you get a setting that works for you, but remember that you should continually adjust as you taste it each day.

      • Amazed everywhere i read that the aldi beans get such a great wrap! If i get the machine i will defs drop by aldi to see what the fuss is about.

  • Does anyone have any comments on this vs a Rancilio Silva or an All-In-One?

From what Ive read the most closest comparison money wise in a full manual is to go gaggia classic plus a good grinder. This machine already seems like a lot of work when instant would get the job done when im fanging for a coffee but i have to wonder…

Solid machine, it took me about a week to get in dialed in but once done as good as Cafe as long as you buy good beans.

  • As above this machine makes excellent coffee if you actually know how to properly grind, tamp and extract the coffee. I would never compare any of the coffee this makes to instant - honestly making same quality coffee as cafe's when using fresh beans.
