Woolworths - Clone Chocolate Bars (Clone Brands Resembling Major Brand Bars up to 60g): 2 for $1

40

Since many OzBargain readers have a sweet tooth, here's an OK Woolworths private label deal. 2 chocolate bars up to 60g, Made in Germany clones (a la Aldi private labels) at 2 for $1.

Check for some unknown brands like 'Vault' next to the Snickers and Mars bars. There will be a special on these unknown house brands, 2 for $1.

Vault is the Snickers clone and it was just as tasty, for me. I don't remember the other labels but they are just as forgettable!

If you're going to Woolies anyway to get the 81c Mars bars, have a look and try them.
(here is the recent Woolworths specials catalogue - there's the 81c deal on the big brand bars. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/44233)

If you like these, please add your own notes, since I've only tried the Snickers clones and not the others.

I tried one of them a while back(a year ago) but cant remember exactly which kind, it was horrible. First impressions were not a good one and woolworths lost a chocolate customer.

    • You're Finicky! Haha.

Don't buy if you're totally off chocolate, but try it if you're going to buy the real thing, so you have a point of comparison. I just figure it's worth a gamble for a buck!

  • I'm guessing they are these —> http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/30782

    • I updated the title which I hope makes it clearer that these are clones of major brand chocolate bars (not Woolworths-branded!)

      • They are 'made for woolworths' though, that I can assure you.
They are cheap because they are now a discontinued line, and are running the stock out.

  • That link is for a WOW branded block of chocolate, right?

What I am talking about is bars with individual, made-up names, like Vault and other forgettable names. Read the back of them and it says 'Made in Germany for Woolworths' but otherwise there is no Woolies connection.

I just bought one thinking there was a new competitor chocolate, then read the label after eating the bar. So I'd not made the connection that it was a private fake label.

Here's a review of the Vault bar. At least one other person thought it was a good chocolate bar, for someone who really likes Snickers.

    http://www.chocablog.com/reviews/vault/

As with most supermarket in-house brands, the real manufacturer is not revealed on the packaging except to say that Vault was made in Germany and packed for Woolworths Australia and Progressive Co New Zealand.

I’m sure the makers of Snickers won’t be pleased because they look and sound like an exact replica to me: ‘milk chocolate coated mini bar with a soft fluffy centre filled with caramel and roasted peanuts.’ And, when eaten they taste exactly the same as well. A generous covering of sweet, milk chocolate over the fluffy nougaty stuff, lots of crunchy peanut bits and gooey stretchy caramel. To be fair, I should have had a couple of fun-sized Snickers alongside for comparison but there was nothing jarringly different or inferior about these Vaults. On the plus side, they’re a lot cheaper than Snickers.

  • these bars kinda scare me

  • I thought they only cloned sheep…

I like them actually, not as sickly sweet (though I've sworn off sugar now)

  • I have tried a couple of these in the range a while ago, they weren't disgusting, but not that nice either…

remember having the thought that it's definitely worth paying the extra for the real thing, particularly if the genuine ones are on special (which is the only time i buy them anyway)

    • Fair enough. Buy them for people without your taste! :)

      • I am however, tempted to try them again this week… because of this special

but to add to my post above, i do eat a lot of chocolate and choc bars, so i guess its probably easier for me to tell the difference

I don't know why but the Aldi chocolates are a lot better.

You would think they would be similar.

    • +2

Aldi drives me bats**t insane though…

      • +1

Same, just two of the 29c clone bars at Aldi a few months back gave me a sugar rush a coke-fiend would be proud of!!!

      • No, I meant the store layout and ESPECIALLY having to wait in line to exit because I haven't bought anything…

        • +2

You don't wait in line to exit if you're not buying do you? I just excuse myself & people in line are always happy to let me pass! ;)

        • The exit's in Qld are so damn narrow it's not funny…apparently aldi hasn't heard of 'deprivation of liberty'…

    clone chocolate bars

    I don't think I'd want to try genetically engineered chocolates… :O

    • +2

They're called the 'Dolly' bars, genetically identical except they're already half-eaten before you get them! :p

  • These are really average chocolate bars . As someone who buys one once a month I'd rather have one I really enjoy .

    • I disagree. For someone, like you, who rarely buys them, I find it hard to taste the difference. Yeah, they might not look exactly the same but I do enjoy them.

Hopefully they will put out a discount for the real thing soon :p

      • Sorry but I can tell the difference and would rather pay a few extra sheckles to enjoy my rare indulgence .

  • i dont understand why you feel the need to use the word clone at all in the title, everyone knows they are knock offs of other chocolate bars….

    • Read the comment from issh. I updated the title so that issh would understand that this is not a Woolworths home brand bar, since their home brand stuff is supposed to be absolute crap.

      • I dont believe you are allowed to + your own deal.

        • of course you are… it does it by default when you post a deal…

if you ever posted a deal, you'd know that…

    • Did you get a little excited reading the word 'clone' and thinking that someone had invented a way to clone chocolate bars?

  • +2

…and so the Clone Wars begin ;-)

The mars bar clone is good - kids liked it. For us older ones that may have grown up with a certain type, then perhaps not as fulfilling, but certainly not a prob for the kids

  • I tried the Mars and Snicker flavor. They weren't bad for the price but they simply don't compare to the real thing.

  • I regretfully tried the snickers and twix last night.. my advice is don't. If you don't want to pay for the real thing, go without. If you ignore that, get the twix, avoid the snickers at all costs.

  • I have only tried the Twix version, they definitely do not taste similar to me. I don't eat Twix that often, but I could tell the difference, the real one is much nicer.

I was surprised when the Mars bars (and varieties) were on special for 81c (or was it 88c) each today!!! Ends on the 10th I think….this was at Woolworths, at least on the Sunshine Coast.
