Quick presents for mum for Mother's Day 2008 - BigFishGames.Com (Free or about $14.00)

30
MOTHERSDAY

Does your mum know how to use a computer? Would she like some fun little distractions?

1 - You can pick up a couple of games for free for her per the other offer.
I know my mum liked Word Search Deluxe.

2 - You can also buy a game outright, with a 40% discount using the coupon MOTHERSDAY.
My mum's almost finished all the Word Search Deluxe puzzles, so I'm personally looking at buying her Upwords Deluxe

Just posting this here in case anyone else is looking for some fun little presents for their mums. I recommend people at least pick up a free game for themselves first, or a trial, so that you know how to install it on your mum's computer on the day (if you want to).

It's better when you can smoothly install it on the day :)

PS No, I'm not affiliated with BigFishGames. I just used the original offer and found it to be good.

  • PS I was looking for Scrabble for the PC (Windows XP). It's retailed by SpinTop Games. Does anyone have any discount coupons for them?

  • Pricing:

A single game before discount is $19.95 US. After the discount, it's about $11.95 US.

It's also possible to buy gift certificates for 1 or 5 games.

I recommend against buying a gift certificate for 1 game. The coupon will not work on certificates, so a gift certificate for 1 game is more expensive (the full $19.95). If you want flexibility, maybe sit down with your mum, and let her pick out the game.

The other alternative is to buy the 5 game certificate, which works out at just under $10.00 US a game. I don't know how it works though as I haven't bought certificates from them.

  • Thoughts about Upwords.

Upwords uses the Microsoft encyclopedia + a bad word list (not sure if Upwords or Microsft made that list).

By level 6, expert, this can be very frustrating, as the PC seems to have access to many of the unusual words in the Encyclopedia, including words which aren't actually English … :P I would recommend sticking to level 5 for people who don't want to play against an expert in fairly obscure words. (eg zinnia(sp?), ells)

It'd be good if the bad words list could be turned off. The rule for it is, if the first definition in the encylopedia, for that word, could be offensive, then it's in the bad word list. While this makes sense in some cases, in other cases, it's definitely arguable that a word should be allowed (eg come and toss are in the bad word lists).
