I've seen this at$320. Sydneytec has it at $399 and it's goes down to$320 during the eBay20% sale.

    • $323.19 at the sydneytec

      • That's today. Tomorrow should be $319.20
They usually remove the 10% off in cart when the 20% off starts.

        • That is with 10% + 10%

  • Great price on this, I'm mega disappointed with their USG product since making the mistake from moving from pfsense.

    • Depends on what your doing with pfsense that you want from unifi. I am running unfi secure gateway and AC Pro and find them to be great, especially since the latest upgrades. But i running it as a Home device not as an enterprise device

      • I consider USG no better than windows firewall.

        At home

        OpenVPN
        MySarq
        DNS
        ClamAV
        Squid
        ….. it goes on

Currently have to use ansible to reconfigure this POS every provision.

In saying that this is for a unifi controller and not USG

        • You dont get those functions from a cisco firewall either, so not really a comparison

          • @asa79: Cisco don't play in that space either so it's not a comparison.

More disappointed in thier USG product while unifi ap has been solid and is a great disruptive product line.

Their security gateway is little more than a glorfied Nat router with some crappy dpi and more bugs than you can shake a stick at.

Its more about buyer about remorse than anything else

This also includes the Unifi Protect for the UniFi Cameras, which is the main reason people purchase it

          • @asa79: This is a great reason to get this controller

        • What's MySarq? I've tried searching for it but haven't found anything that's vaguely network related. I only ask as I'm about to set up my own firewall at home and wondered if it might be useful.

Yeah I'm ready for a unifi install in about 9 months time and hoping a new USG by then.

      • Honesty opt for thier edge router, but its going come down to what you want vs what you can admin. Edge router is less crap

        • Got to decide whether to go with the unifi cameras or something else as well.

Plus try and get a network map done for placements etc for ap's

Cheaper with Computer Alliance 15% off. $305 with PCVID15

  • I’ve just had cabling put in to new house - 5 camera points , 6 network points and 3 wireless APs .

Just need to buy all the components and wire them up.

    What to get??

    • You cant go wrong with UniFi

      • Which components exactly would I need? Switch with some poe? USG which will store footage from cameras? Edgerouter?

        • All unifi if you want it all to integrate. Otherwise you managing multiple platforms

    • UniFi® Switch 16-150W
      UniFi® Security Gateway
UniFi® Cloud Key Gen2 - you might need to upgrade the harddisk to a 5tb with this many camera
      UniFi® nanoHD for wireless AP
Mix of G3 flex, G3 or G3 pro for better night vision

Don't use cheap ebay ethernet cable for PoE gears. Make sure they are 100% copper and not CCA.

      • Don't use cheap ebay ethernet cable for PoE gears. Make sure they are 100% copper and not CCA.

        How do we identify this?

        • Physical can you check the colour from the exposed wire from the connector end. Silver is CCA. They are cheap for a reason.

Buy from 4cabling or any other reputable brands from brick and mortar store.

      • the security gateway as opposed to edgerouter?

        • i will get the security gateway as it is managed by the cloud key together with the cams and wireless AP under the same interface. Edgerouter have more features for advanced user you might need.

          • @max900: Usg still can enable alot of the same feature via the shell. Most home users won't need em tho

        • If you want to use the nice unifi interface and be able to see all the pretty greens enabled statuses

      • It's all so pricey!!

Any cheaper options or anything I can downgrade?

        • lol do it right the 1st time.

Yes it is pricy. You can get better quality and cheaper cams using chinese brands, but i don't trust them. Wireless cams like nest/arlo are not cheap too and will not be as reliable as a wired system.

Maybe get the switch, use your old router, skip the cloud key and run the controller software using an old pc. This is what i did until i came across the $305 cloudkey gen 2 on ebay. A deal too good to pass up.

Another reason why i am getting the cloudkey gen 2 because of the battery backup and lower power consumption so i can run it off longer on UPS. I had my power turned off at the switch box on before Christmas by an intruder while i was home and the video didn't save enough to capture the intruder.

          • @max900:

I had my power turned off at the switch box

This is my concern with installing security cameras. What UPS are you using and how long will it keep your system running without power? Most of the low end ones only run long enough to let your PC shutdown safely. TIA

            • @Master Bates: You can get a decent ups for $99 from computer alliance or $150 for slightly longer.

My $99 ups runs for about 15 mins with all the servers and comms gear. It also not to heavy to have in the wall mount cabinet

Will be adding another ups in the attic with poe switch for cameras alone

Or add a telsa power wall and you have even longer

        • You get what you pay for tho. If you want the best AP Ac pro or NanoHD.

          • @asa79: And how about hikvision cameras and an NVR instead of unifi cameras?
