Does not seem like anyone has posted this yet.

Ubiquiti is not my cup of tea, but it does seem to have alot of fans on OzBargain. So I am posting this for them.

Be aware that Ubiquiti uses the Suricata open source IDS. Signatures use ET Open ruleset. So nothing fancy about the IDS/IPS.

In any case, price for 4 x 2.5GbE ports is not too bad.

Also, for those who are new to the Ubiquiti eco-system, you need to know that there currently does not appear to be any viable upgrade path to WiFi7. Many users reporting there is a fan in UniFi WiFi7 access point units which generate alot of noise. Only fallback is buying the slower Wi-Fi6E U6 Enterprise access point (AUD$599) which is fanless.

Surcharges: 0% for bank deposit, Afterpay & Zip Money. 1.2% for VISA / MasterCard & PayPal. 2.2% for AmEx.

Free shipping excludes WA, NT & remote areas.

  • This or Firewalla ?

    • +2

      Both. Different feature sets.

    • I love my Firewalla, well worth the price for the gear. The easy of setup and being able to set rules in an easy manner and get alerts has been brilliant (extra bonus points for those with kids and setting up rules so they can do homework but not do games or youtube).

As Caring said different applications though.

      • Thanks for sharing mate. Are you using Firewalla as your router or in transparent mode ?

And which Firewalla do you have ?

Just trying to understand my needs here. I just brought an Unifi Ultra. I have 20 IOT devices, run a server with Arr stack and Plex server.

I got excited thinking this was the Cloud Gateway Max. It's been stubborn, holding around $500.

      • +2

        Also not the cloud gateway

Unifi have a lot of products with unclear differences

Touche! It was the link that came up when I specifically searched for UCG-MAX. Even search results are confusing as heck.

      • That's UXG-Max (the same as in posted deal, just more expensive), not UCG-Max.

    • Same

    • +1

Same. One store had the SSD-less version for $399, but it was already OOS when I found it.

  • I prefer the ones with interactive screen

  • +1

Got this for 348 from Computer Alliance. OOS so good price for 359.

Worth pointing out for others that unlike the UCG-MAX, this UXG-MAX requires a separate controller; within your network or cloud hosted.

  • UCG-MAX has a NVME slot as well, so can run cameras and record.
Am waiting for a UCG-MAX to replace my UCG-Ultra… which replaced the express, which replaced the USG-3p/cloud stick.
I really wish they would just streamline the product lineup to a few things!

    4port POE, NVME, 2.5g 1gps/IDS/IPS, built in gateway, wifi6,
    and hvae it in stock

    • Unless you really need the 2.5g the ultra for a lot less is fine. By the time you do, and NBN itself offers a higher speed plan Ubiquiti would of refreshed the line-up anyway.

    Regarding your comments on wifi 7, just get the E7 (;

    • Far out - how many E7s can we afford?

    • The only issue I had with my U7 Pro was one specific client that kept dropping out. Eventually I tried the beta firmware and it fixed the issue. That firmware is now in the stable channel.

Haven’t had any issues with the fan, I’ve never actually heard it. Maybe mine doesn’t work… haha.

I don’t have it ceiling mounted though, it’s sitting on a Temu vertical stand.

  • Isn’t the Dream Machine the only one you need?

Interesting founder(Robert Pera) and company NYSE: UI, amazing share performance since listing.

  • P/S: For those looking for UCG Max, there are reports of it running extremly hot.

    • Ah drat that's a crying shame.. indeed I was after the UCG-Max.. and ditto a WiFi 7 Pro for range..

      • Same here. I was going to buy the MAX, but the main difference is support for their cctv/security and nvme, both of which i don't need.

Apparently they use the same processor as the ultra, but just load it up which more processes which overheats it.

        • I don't need the cctv/security or the nvme either frankly… but I do want the services that monitor payloads, security etc.

I wonder given that if the the UCG-Max will run more efficiently as a result ie. less heat

          • @tommypickles: No difference between UCG-Max and UCG-Ultra other than backbone speeds, nvme and unifi application suites.

IDS is available for max and ultra.

You're getting confused with the UXG and UCG?

            • @zeomega: If I recall, the UXG has 1gbe ports and I'm after the highest ethernet port speeds. UCG goes a bit faster with 2.5gbe on all ports.

On that, I feel that Ubiquiti are a bit behind compared to say TP-Link who offer 10gbe RJ45 as prosumer options.

  • Got mine for $310 from a wirelss1 sale.

Pretty tricky to get set up to be honest. Couldn't get it set up, I was just getting an endless loop of "could not connect to the internet" during set up. Took me ages to figure out that you need to let it sit for 30mins or so while on get it to receive a connection from my ISP.

Basically you need to wait for your ISP to "reset" your connection which they seem to do periodically. Just in case this helps anyone!
