    Koleos

Isn't that the Greek word for anus ?

    • +38

I thought you were the expert on these kinds of matters?

    • No, but very similar. (native Greek)

    • +10

Nah I think you mean 'Kornholios'

      • -2

Because Corn comes out of it?

        • +2

No, because 'I am kornholious, I need TP for my bunghole!'

    • +1

Vigina in Greek is Κολεος. I guess that's more like where it's from. I'm a happen owner of 2009, the Koleos car, I mean. It's really a good car.

      • That's coz it's a Nissan X-Trail

        • +1

Or the Xtrail is a koleos.
They share parts, not made in th same factories either.
Was reading about the RENAULT Nissan partnership and how long it took to decide just to use RENAULT indicator/wiper sticks over Nissan’s version.

I’ve got a koleos, and coming from an xtrail, it’s a much nicer vehicle to drive. Plus it was cheaper to buy and cheaper to run (and I think a lot better looking inside and out) than another xtrail.

          • @PVA: I get ya but $42k buys you a might nicer grade Xtrail with 4wd 7 seats etc. and of course, when it comes time to sell, its an Xtrail and not ostensibly, a French car.

IMO $42k for an FWD model is kind of… eh…

All of these things pale in comparison to a CX5 which drives much much nicer…. or go with a VW if you can put up with VW headaches.

The CX5 has its own issues (ie. high servicing and high parts consumsubales due to Stop start and a full DI motor) but eh. YOu pay for what you get.

    • +2

Lol! This is jv's first post I have seen which is not negged

    • +2

I’m guessing JV drives a Pajero

      • +1

With the number of votes on this deal. Renault will probably double their sales for last year

    • for 5K I wouldn't bother, just rent something there mate

      • +14

        for 5K I wouldn't bother,

You also wouldn't want a Dingo to bite you on the Koleos

        • 😂😂😂

    • -1

      5k to do fraser…. suuuuure

    • You may need to just rent one…

    • +2

Sierra or Vitara. Crappy old petrol patrol/hilux/cruiser/Pajero with a million KMs.

    • +1

      Lamborghini Urus is 4WD

      • +1

And strangely they are under $5k as well… :/

  • +22

When did we turn into OzCargain?

    • +10

When people started upvoting car deals.

    • -4

I thought you were exaggerating or overreacting, so I went through all of this year's Automotive posts and found two deals specifically about car prices. So looks like you were right. OzCargain it is.

      • Damn, all the deals this year and found 2 specific car deals?

    • What do you mean? There are way more phone, games, tv, speakers, groceries deals than car deals?

Car deals form a small percentage of all deals on this website.

    • I'm waiting for OzCardigan.

  • It’s not a 4WD, only 4x2. :-(

    • +42

      only 4x2

      So it's an 8WD ?

      • +9

        You're on fire today, mate.

        • +9

Fire isn't a joking matter at the moment.

    • The Intens model is 4x4 and the same price

      • Link. The Intens model in the OP is 4x2.

        • +4

Just looked again….oops my error. I only thought it came in 4x4.
I purchased the Intens 4x4 with metalic paint, roof racks, roof pod, tinted windows and boot liner for $43500 a while back. 5 years warranty (unlike 7 now) and 3 years free servicing and roadside.
Its a lot of car you are getting for that price. All the features of the $80k plus lux 4wds
Its a rebranded xtrail. You lift the engine cover off and it says Nissan! lol However it does look a lot nicer and more modern than the x-trail. Peace of mind knowing its an x-trail underneath as they are pretty reliable.
Comes out cheaper than the top of the range Kia and Hyundai SUVs too

  • Might as well pay a bit more for the Hyundai Kona electric

    • Just the thing for a trip to the northern part of Fraser Island which is not connected to the grid.

How long will it take your 300W solar panel to give you 20kWhr (enough charge for 100km). Answer: 60 hours of sunshine (around 2 weeks).

      • +3

I don't think this tubby 2wd model will be going anywhere wild either.

        • How do Lithium batteries react to being submerged in salt water?

      • And you were going to take a Renault Koleos instead? ba ha ha ha ha.

    • A different sized vehicle too. Kona is a lot smaller.

  • Isn't the CEO currently in prison?

    • +1

technically no, Koleos is made by Renault-Samsung Motors.

    • He's trying to make bail… will be interesting to see if the alliance endures… I'd purchase a used XC60 over this deal

      • +3

I’d buy 2 slices of ham over a Volvo XC anything…

        • Couldn't agree more.

          He's 1 of those drivers!

    • Ex-CEO. He's been removed from the boards of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi.

  • +14

The hidden cost with this car is depreciation. Go to trade this in at 3 years old with 60,000kms on it and you'll be offered 10 grand.

Look at how cheaply the previous models are changing hands vs. the others in their market segment.

As an example, a 2010 with 140k just sold on gumtree near my place for $3500. Some minor dings (about $1k cash in hand at your local crash shop).

    A 2010 Outlander/Rav4 etc.. with similar mileage/condition would sell for double/triple.

Renault do make some nice cars, but the only ones any sensible person would ever buy would have an RS badge on them. They seem less effected by the brain damage that you get on the "garden variety" models.

    • +19

at 3 years old with 60,000kms on it and you'll be offered 10 grand.

      That's where I come in.

      • +2

2010 model was a POS. This is completely different model. Its a rebranded X-trail

        • +5

Thing is, everyone says that with every "new model" from a fringe brand (i.e. jeep, renault, citroen, fiat etc..).

"But this is the new one, its nothing like the previous problems we had"

..but it never is different. Regardless, resale is about perception, not reality.

        • +1

Wasn’t the 2010 mode just a reskinned X-Trail also? Same drivetrain combinations, Nissan supplies the petrol, Renault supplied the diesel.

          • @jwh: Thought it was just the current model. I think the last one had a Renault engine. Not the Nissan.

            • +1

@Sammyboy: Renault engine is Nissan engine. They are a partnership. Lots of shared engines nowadays.

              • @brendanm: Yah, but I thought that was actually a Renault developed engine. This time they got real lazy and just put a plastic cover over the Nissan writing on the engine block lol Just had a look at wiki and the 2nd gen Koleos, is the first time they used the "Common Module Family (CMF-CD) modular platform, developed jointly by Renault and Nissan, and already used on similar vehicles as the third generation Nissan X-Trail and the Renault Kadjar."

                • @Sammyboy: 2nd gen X-Trail, 1st gen Koleos are on the Nissan C-platform
                  3rd gen X-Trail, 2nd gen Koleos are on CMF-CD
All generations of X-Trail and Koleos have used the Nissan QR25DE 2.5l petrol which basically pre-dates the Renault-Nissan alliance. Diesels are either Renault engines for the previous generations, or codeveloped engines in the current generation.

                  • @FTTNope: Ah yes…the Diesel engine was Renault. What about the current generation Diesel? The petrol engine does need a bit of an update I would say

                    • @Sammyboy: Agree the petrol engine is well past retirement age. That said the Japanese competition are also using some really dated engines too, aside from the CR-V's 1.5l turbo or Mazda's Skyactiv engines.

Digging on the current offerings… early current gen X-Trail used a 1.6L 96kW/320Nm diesel called the Renault R9M, and the updated X-Trail and current Koleos 130kW/380Nm 2.0L called the Renault-Nissan M9R. The 2.0L is actually an older engine family.

    • The other hidden cost is when the warranty runs out

    • The last model also suffered because they flooded the market by flogging them all through the rental companies with buyback contracts - and bought them all back at a big loss.

      • +1

Wow, Theres a username i haven't heard in a while! How are you dude! Still have your celica?

  • Is it made in Korea?

    • +3

      yes, built by Renault-Samsung Motors.

      • Can't justify buying something more expensive than hyundai or kia.

  • +11

This, or the Tesla Model X with 80K off?

    • +5

They are designed for completely different purposes so buy both and you are still $37,010 better off!

  • +3

This isn't an AMG or a Tesla and thus has no place on Ozbargain :P

    $43,000? Pfft.

  • +8

Oh come on! I've already bought 7 Tesla's this week!

    • +1

With your savings off Tesla ($80k each), you should be able to buy 14 of these

      • +2

        This guy maths.

  • +17

    But it’s a Renault…

And if you can’t negotiate $3k off a brand new Renault before this deal, you shouldn’t be buying cars.

  • +2

Or you know, never buy a new car? worst financial decision ever.

    • +4

      No, divorce is

      • No, getting married is… I’ve heard that divorce is usually worth it.

  • +2

Keep the car deals coming.. I'm waiting for a nice small SUV with all the safety features that are rated 5 star under the new ANCAP ratings. Preferably under 25k.

Ive been looking at the Mitsubishi asx and eclipse Cross models. Eclipse Cross might be a little on the big side for the exterior body.. But has good features.

Any suggestions or deals are appreciated.

    • I really like that ad where the couple driving the eclipse X spin the compass wheel to work out where to go next.

      Freedom!

    • Agree. My company is moving to the CBD and the current car will then mainly be used for short trips to the shops. Not keen on clogging up it's DPF. I'm thinking of a 2020 Outlander PHEV. No servos on the way to the shops, so would have to go out of my way to fill up. Also interested in other suggestions; not a Model X LOL

    • Eclipse Cross is vastly newer and is only 10cm longer than the ASX.
ASX is properly ancient. It's a 10 year old car with only basic facelifts to keep it going, but it is still selling surprisingly well.

      • Do you know how much wider? I heard the interior space was exactly the same as the ASX.

If kia had a small SUV with all the features of the new Cerato with the safety pack, I'd be happy. I want a small SUV so I feel a bit safer on the road knowing how many big utes are on the road. I've had a big Ute run up the back of me and drive off.. My little hatchback was left with significant damage and I still suffer from back pain.. So a slightly bigger car to protect me a bit better I see as an investment.

        • Mitsubishi's website says the ASX is actually 5mm wider than the Eclipse, would you believe?!

        • Buy a cerato and get a custom lift kit = Kia Cerato SUV

        • Kia do have one. It's called the Kia Soul ! Built on the Cerato platform but with a lot more shoulder and headroom. Plus, it's a little bit different to every thing else on the road. They RRP for around $25K but often selling for $22-23K. It probably doesn't have the full safety package if you are after crash avoidance and lane guidance.

          • @Densor: Yeah I've seen those around. They look a little too small I think

            • @kimba88: They are very big on the inside. My wife wanted something that didn't have a sloping roofline, a tiny window at the back and zero headroom in the rear seat. Drove most of the small SUV's and the CVT transmissions really turned me off. The HRV had a whine already. But, you do have to like the "only a mother could love" looks.

              • @Densor: Haha.. Yeah I'm definitely not keen on the look out the soul. In saying that, I think maybe the exterior is even a bit small.. I'm wanting something a fair bit bigger than my Cerato to protect me and my passengers from people who don't know how to drive.

    • What's your budget?
