  • Any further discount for purchasing 4 Euro sims? Might just wait for a 40% if not as I won't need them for another 7 months :)

    • +5

      Hi nurries,

We won't be doing 40% off again. That was when we first started out and we had basically no expenses at all as a business (we were shipping from my living room!)

Since then we have moved to an office and have mouths to feed so we can't offer our prices that low anymore.

However, we will be having more deals this year @ 25% off so I'm sure you will see another one before you go :)

      -Aidan

  • Looking at past deals from SimsDirect, the discounted price of Europe Travel SIM has increased by AUD$1.35.

    • Japan SIM is $9.25 more than the one I got last year ($24.50)
Shame I didn't even get to use it thanks to Typhoon Jebi 🌊

      • Hi Muncan,

The previous Japan SIM we offered was for 8 days, this one lasts 15 days. That's why it is more expensive.

Ah dang, unlucky! Is it still in its expiry date? We can organise a return/refund for you if you like.

        -Aidan

        • +1

Ah right so it is. Thank you for the kind offer but it’s not your fault. Retrying the trip again in May so will be on the lookout for another 1 week SIM, if the price is right. 😬

  • Do you support ESim?

    • Morning Dealneo,

Unfortunately not! Something that we will be looking for over the next year or so as eSIM becomes more popular!

      -Aidan

  • +1

Talking to my friend who lives in NYC, he's not really an OzBargain type of person but American mobile services seem really expensive…

Could not pick a better time! Hoing Thailand in 8 days :)

    • Perfect! :)

  • Wow! was just about to buy Euro Sim yesterday. Held out for the night to find it's now 25% off. Can't get any better to the day lol. Thanks op. Bought 2.

    • Haha, awesome! Have a great day circus!

  • Do you have anything for Vanuatu?

    • Morning thestig,

      Nothing for Vanuatu unfortunately.

Sorry I can't help you out this time!

      -Aidan

  • Will be travelling to SE Asia in Sept/Oct we have two phones.

What happens if you need more data during your travel time?

I'd rather not have to buy 4 x 4Gb SE Asia sims, not really a cheap option even with 25% off.

    • Morning klif,

If the data runs out the SIM stops working. There is no way to top up, unfortunately.

You might be better off getting local SIMs if you are watching the spend because they are generally very cheap in SEA. Just might take a little bit of extra effort finding/getting the SIMs.

Is it possible to get SIMs that can be activated after March? I'm travelling from 25 April to 16 May (so I would buy 2 cards).

    Thanks!

    • March 2020?

    • Morning Oppressa!

If you are travelling in 2019 then you are totally fine to buy the SIMs, they don't expire until 2020.

If you need it for 2020, then you will need to wait until we get newer stock. When newer stock comes in the website product description will be updated to the new dates so you can keep an eye on it there.

      -Aidan

      • Sorry, I'm blind. I read it as March 2019 when I was looking at the activation expiry date!

Obviously no issue with buying 4 so that my girlfriend and I both have data and when 15 days are up we just go onto the next SIMs?

On 2nd though, I might wait until you acquire some larger plans as we'll hit the 5Gb in now time I anticipate.

        • Yep sounds like a good plan :)

Keep an eye on the website, if we add anything it will be added to the 'Japan' collection.

          -Aidan

  • Hi OP, nice post and appreciate your engagement with the OzBargain community.

Just wondering if you have plans for a 21 day Japan SIM? I know there are SIMs available elsewhere with a daily cap of 500MB on 4G, but something with a shared data pool (even if a bit less in total quota) for would be much nicer.

    • Morning Green!

Wouldn't be here without the Ozbargain community <3

We don't have anything larger than 15 days, unfortunately! Still trying to get out hands on 21 day B-mobile SIMs!

      -Aidan

  • Hi store rep, I am leaving this Sunday, if I order this morning, should be received by Friday for Melbourne metro? Thanks

    • Morning Play,

I would recommend express postage if you are leaving this weekend. We have had a big surge in orders so we are prioritising express orders first.

      -Aidan

  • Thanks OP. Heading to Hawaii next month so perfect timing!

    • Great! Have an awesome time and reach out if you need help with anything :)

      -Aidan

  • When will the Euro/UK Sim expire? I will go to Spain/Portugal for 3 weeks in Oct 2091. Is it too early to buy one?

    Thanks

    • Good morning seniordoc!

The SIMs do not expire, so you can hold onto them as long as you like before activating. Just hold onto it until you land in Oct 2019.

      -Aidan

    • Sorry I mean Oct 2019
I am not sure I am still alive 2091!

Had a go with these guys for my New Zealand (South Island) trip, wasn't very happy.

They use 2 degrees network, which is crap at the South, at most areas where I can get Vodafone and Sparks signal, they have nothing. So I don't have data access most of the time. My partners' Vodafone works wherever there's signal.

The other thing is they have messed up with the balance things. The sim should be prepaid and ready for use. But it took nearly a day for me to get access to Internet, because the 2degrees customer service guy had no idea what he's doing. So I recon SimsDirect wan't that bad but 2 degress in NZ just couldn't cope.

    • Damn - I'm off to the South in a couple of weeks and have one of these bad boys ready to go. Can you comment where roughly you had the most trouble? I'm spending most time around Mt Cook/Queenstown/Te Anau

      • Hi hinee,

I would check coverage with the 2degrees coverage map here. If it's not going to cover your trip then I can organise a return/refund for you. Don't want you to get stuck without coverage! Queenstown will be perfectly fine but I would check more rural locations.

        -Aidan

        • +1

Thanks for the message Aidan. I'm taking my Vodafone handset over which can just roam so this 2deg one is for the Mrs. The coverage map looks fine for where we're headed (except Milford Sound but that will be a nice disconnect) and for the $21 I paid I will take the risk. I'll do my best to get you some info on exactly where it doesn't cut the mustard.

      • +1

I used a 2 degrees sim in the South Island last year. Quite good in the Queenstown/Wanaka/Te Anau areas, but outside of those urban areas the reception was poor to non existent.

Depending on how important it is for you to have reception out of those areas, you could look at other providers and see if their reception is better in rural remote areas.

      • I have no idea about Mt Cook, but Queenstown and Te Anau should be fine. We were driving around the south island. The Major cities were OK, it's just remote cities like Kingston and other ones, which are hard to get connected.

    • +1

      Hi HD,

Damn that sucks, I'm sorry it didn't perform for you! I might try to get my hands on some Spark SIMs if I get more complaints like this.

Could you give me some details on where you went in the south? It would be helpful to know where the product didn't perform for other customer's sake.

      -Aidan

  • Is it cheaper than when you get it from the respective country (e.g. Japan) or Klook app? With my experience in Singapore, I realised that these are pricey and have less data too.

    • Hi virhipool,

It depends where you go. I've found Japan to be quite expensive in the past. But it's up to you! If you find something cheaper for your needs then go with that :)

      -Aidan

      • +1

Yes, I was just a bit curious since even Singapore airport prices are cheaper than this. Klook is often even cheaper. If so is true for Japan as well, then I would buy from Japan - otherwise I am happy to buy from this.

  • I am heading to the States for 3 weeks in May, so thanks for a reminder.
Do I understand correctly that it comes with unlim text and calls to Australia?

    • Morning Alex!

Yes! It comes with unlimited calls/text to Oz.

      -Aidan

  • I would buy a cheap unlocked mobile & only use it for traveling (-no personal details on it / if stolen or lost)
I would google the country I am going to visit - the price & what they offer in sim cards
    - usually trip advisor will have comments of travelers using the card in the country for feedback
It will then give a comparison of pricing & how their data network works

    • Hi jcft,

Let me know what you find, it's always good hearing feedback on what travellers find. There are lots of different options out there so its always good to know!

      -Aidan

  • So one that works in Bali isn't available ?

    • Hi scott,

The Bali SIM has been discontinued! The expiry date on it was just too short and difficult to manage.

So we decided to start looking for new Indo SIMs to replace it. The SEA SIM we offer is the best I have for now!

      -Aidan

  • Hi just wondering what network will this SIM be on in Taiwan?

    • Hi cls!

It works on the TSTAR network.

      Hope that helps!

      -Aidan

  • Thanks OP. Going to NZ in a few weeks and was going to buy the 10GB SIM today so you saved me some $$$$!

    • +1

Awesome! Glad we could help, thanks for your purchase :)

      -Aidan

  • I'm rather thick with this type of thing and going to Japan in one week…

I'm with Telstra which is $10 day for 200MB for overseas data - Rubbish.

I also have a 28 degrees credit card and get free global WiFi with hotspots - Never used it before.

Do I still need a travel SIM from you? Will you be more reliable than the 28 degrees hotspots?

    • Hi bitcoin!

A lot of our customers feel uncertain about what to do or don't really know what is available! So its all good!

Its completely up to you, the benefit of having a prepaid SIM in your phone is that:

      1. Its really simple to use
      2. Its cheap compared to roaming options
      3. Its convenient to have in your phone for google maps, web browsing, social media, etc etc.

The 28degrees hotspots will be locations that you need to go to to get free wifi. So the benefit of the SIM is more freedom I guess! Your phone will be connected the whole time and you won't need to bother looking around for free wifi.

Let me know if you have any further questions!

      -Aidan

    1. Credit to Aidan and team for prompt reply on facebook messenger.

    2. To all travelers - Please check if your mobile phone is compatible with sim network (Yes, not all phones are compatible!!). I was in Hawaii 2 weeks ago - My Nova 3i and iphone 6 both were not compatible with T mobile network! Incoming/outgoing calls worked for me but data was not usable at all.

    • Thanks man! Customer service is definitely at the centre of what we do! It gets a little crazy with our small team sometimes but its all worth it :)

2 - To add to that - Checking your devices with network bands with a website like Frequencycheck.com is a great tool for this.

      -Aidan

  • +1

Just wanted to add a +1 for their customer service. Ordered the wrong sim and they were able to cancel and refund the order no dramas.

    • No worries at all Kerr! Thanks for the vote of confidence :)

  • Europe & UK

As a European, this makes me cringe. Sounds to me like "Australia & New South Wales".

    • +1

      Hi Mr tweek,

I understand that it is incorrect. It's been done like that because we used to get so many questions asking if it included UK.

It might be an Australian thing (we do live on an island haha) but it just made sense to do it for our customers.

      -Aidan

    • After Brexit it will be "true"…

      • Nope, not even. Europe is a continent. The UK is leaving the EU, but not Europe.

EU & UK would be correct after Brexit though.

        • For sure (I know my geography), but when most people use Europe & UK they are inferring Europe = the collection of European countries, rather than the continent.
And as it stands that sim might work in non-EU countries, but not every country in continental Europe. So how would you have the sim countries listed, assuming we accept an abbreviated list?

          • @Cliche Guevara: There's probably no short way to describe where this works, but that's not the part bothers me ;)

You could just call it Europe. As the UK is and has always been part of the continent of Europe as well as the collection of European countries by any common definition.
"Europe & UK" is just a needless redundancy, kinda highlighting one random country for no apparent reason.

Since the list includes Switzerland, Norway and Iceland, it's definitely got nothing to do with the EU, and the fact that the UK is an island doesn't make it less European than Ireland, Iceland, Malta or Cyprus (the latter being part of the EU, yet geographically in Asia).

  • Great deal, just purchased one! thanks!

    • Thanks! <3

  • Can anyone tell me if they have purchased from kingsims.com it seems to good to be true if so I’ll stick with these thanks

  • With the Europe & UK SIM, do we get 4G or 3G data speed in Netherlands, Germany and France?

    • Hi epaqgz,

It will depend on the capacity on the network.

Usually, you can expect to get H+ speeds (3.5G) in those countries - but during very busy times, I've had customers report that it kicks back to 3G speed.

You can switch around to other local operators when that happens to see if there are faster speeds on other networks.

It's a little bit difficult to give you an exact answer but I hope this helps. If the SIM connection is every too unsatisfactory for you to use I would be happy to offer your money back in that case (after talking to us on facebook). We won't take your money unless you got value out of the SIM.

      -Aidan

      • Thanks. Will order one and give it a try.

        • Awesome! Just reach out if you run into any trouble :)

  • Thanks. Just ordered the 12 month sim. Mostly will be used across Europe but a couple of short trips to Hong Kong & Singapore make it a nice bonus. (used it last time through EU and it worked well enough (often defaulting to 3G then 2G in 'regional' areas. So We just did a network search and then wen through the networks one by one until it moved off of 2G back to a 3G connection)

    • Awesome! Glad to hear it worked out for you.

I think I will be adding that to our guides as we've started learning the same thing. Switching between carriers can get you better speeds during peak times!

      -Aidan

      • I'm sure you've got it in the FAQ … we also found that if in doubt, switch to offline (flight) then back on whilst roaming. This would also make the phone 'hunt' for a network. On the odd occasion we would have to do a hard off / on for some reason.

        • Good feedback! Thank you.

  • What happens if you are on a cruise ship when you use this? We are going to the Greek Isles.

    • Hi Boxall,

The further you go out to sea the worse your reception will get. The SIM works off local land towers just like your Optus or Telstra SIM would here in Australia. So I generally tell customers they will get full speeds when docked or near land.

      -Aidan

      • +1

Thanks Aidan. That will do me and MUCH better then $15 per day for social only!

        • Cruise ship internet is an absolute joke. But it's understandable why its so expensive - they have to use satellite connections which are much more expensive than local networks!

  • Hi Simsdirect,

When I try to check out the 2xEurope Sim, it asks for departure and arrival dates.
I thought activation is triggered by the insertion of the sim card? If so, what is this for?

We are going to Singapore-France-Italy-Greece sometime this year for 25 days.
So my other question is, will it be ok if we activate the sims in Australia a few days before departure so we can know our mobile numbers in advance?

    • Hey epoch007,

Great question. Don't worry the SIM activation is not affected at all by these dates. We use the dates to know when customers are leaving so we can rob their homes after they have gone.

      Haha joking! (Or am I?)

Nah seriously, robbing homes take a lot of effort and I'm more an 'indoor person'.

The dates are used for customer service. It helps us manage shipments and know how much time we have in case of orders being lost by Aus post etc.

No need to activate the SIMs before you go. The mobile number is printed on the back of the SIM packaging!

      -Aidan

      • Thanks Aidan. Appreciate the joke and confirmation.

Just placed order for 2x! Cheers.

        • Legend! Thanks for the order :)

  • Bought some sims last time I went to China. Great service and I can definitely recommend these guys.

    • Epic! Thanks for the feedback Chaser <3

  • Hi, I'm travelling to France, Spain and Portugal, are you able to tell me what networks your Europe sims roam to in those countries?

    • Hi Maloufel,

      France- Bouygues or Free Mobile
      Spain- Telefonica Movistar or Yoigo
      Portugal - NOS

      Hope that helps :)

      -Aidan

  • Hi,we will be in Europe during July August 2019. Could I buy the sim now? When should I activate it? Is it nano sim? Should I use it in my mobile S7 or a pocket WiFi or tablet ?

    • +1

      Hey Pearl,

You can buy this now if you like. The SIM card will not expire before you leave in July.

All you need to do to activate is:

      1. Land in Europe
      2. Turn on Data Roaming
      3. Restart your device

You just hold onto the SIm until you land in July :)

It comes with all 3 sizes, so it fits all devices.

This SIM is for mobile phones only. It won't work in other devices like Tablets or Wifi devices.

Let me know if you have any further questions :)

      -Aidan

    • +2

From experience having used these SIMs a few times now. We activate them whilst in AU i.e we do it at the airport in Oz whilst waiting to board. This way we know that as soon as we have touch down the phone is working instantly i.e we can just fire it up, order an Uber or check the next train times etc. Also good if expecting a email or skype messages etc. it also makes sure that you don't get stung with roaming on your AU based mobile plan. Hope that helps

  • Anything similar to SoEasy 3Gb Europe & UK 90 Day Data SIM Card (71 Countries)?

    • Hi Plapic,

Nothing less than 12 GB unfortunately. Sorry I can't help!

      -Aidan

  • When does the sim expire from activation? Eg. the SEA card, activated on 4pm 1st March. Does it expire 12th March at 4pm or at midnight 12th March?

    • Hi bonbi!

It will expire at the same time at 4PM 12 days later.

      Hope that helps!

      -Aidan

  • Do you have an app to monitor usage?

    • Hi Boxall,

The New Zealand SIMs we offer can be tracked through a mobile app, the rest of the SIMs have a code you need to message and it will be displayed on your screen.

      -Aidan

      • What’s the mobile app called? Is it just the 2degrees one?

        • Hi Yabbie,

          Yep, just the 2degrees app!
