Now that the S10 is about to be released these things are only going to get cheaper.

    • +40

That's probably why the price dropped to $569.

    • +2

Given experiences since about the S4 and the fall in the AUD, I don't think that these are going to get much cheaper than mid-500s.

      • +1

        Isn't the s4 like $300?

        • +1

I mean, it used to be that the n-1 or n-2 generation Samsung flagship would be available for about $400 at any given time (and still be reasonably current in terms of technology). Until S10 came out I did not see S8 fall below $670 and even now I think this will be the low point for a long time.

          • @josho9: Do you think the S9 will get under the $600 mark?

            • @Kubric: Not for at least 18 months. I wouldn't wait.

      • its weird how tvs drop so much at end of year and phones barely drop year on year.

    • I'm with eug. This is the drop we've been waiting for.

  • +3

    So $569

    TRS approx $51
    Cashback approx $28

    So about $490

    Sound right?

    • +1

      Whats TRS

    • So about $490

Sounds right! Forgot to mention CR in the post too.

    • But then you need to factor the cost to leave the country and come back. Which costs hundreds

      • +6

Obviously people travel for other reasons… People generally don't leave the country to just get a 10% refund.

    • +1

can you claim trs without leaving the country? that's what OP is implying…

      • Only if you have a friend going os (either take it with them, or just fill out the TRS form when it's unstaffed like at Perth. :D

  • +3

The only review indicates that these are refurb/reboxed…

Mobile Box seal was broken on receipt. SIM card ejection pin missing. Small scratches on top outer edge of the phone. It seems somebody handled the phone before. Also it looks like this is a dual sim version (I ordered single SIM model) Can I get replacement handset?

    • +17

That was posted in Sept 2018, Amazon didn't sell it directly then so it would have been in reference to a 3rd party seller.

      Worth a try!

    • is it possible to get price beat online or store only

      • +1

I think you have to call their number if you cant go in store https://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/price-be…

I haven't tried that before, but guessing they'll check and give you a personalised link afterwards..?

EDIT: Got curious to try out the call-to-price-beat, the operator told me on the phone their warehouse only has like 2 units of stock (and if later turn out to be returned stock then the orders will be cancelled), probably better to try in-store. He told me the system shows Alexandria (NSW) has got 4 units in stock. For those nearby and interested, might worth trying that out.

        • i just rang OW They said its different model to australian models the ones in office works are australian models and amazon is imported

          • +4

@DarkSide: I have a feeling that operator was looking at the wrong amazon link lol, as mine was fine to go ahead with the order. (I didn't place it, as it was more for curiosity and trying out the over-the-phone price beat process).

To be clear, the Amazon AU's listing (where as the seller is Amazon AU itself), has the Australian manufacturer model part number "SM-G950FZKAXSA" in the title, which is identical to OfficeWork's own website listing, under Specification->Manufacturer->Part Number.

          • +2

            @DarkSide:

They said its different model to australian models the ones in office works are australian models and amazon is imported

They're definitely wrong - the model number is in the product name itself - SM-G950FZKAXSA.
That's the exact model as on the Samsung Australia website:
            https://www.samsung.com/au/smartphones/galaxy-s8-g950/SM-G95…

It's also identical to the Part Number on the Officeworks website.

          • @DarkSide: Didn't you ask what part number he is seeing on the Amazon page?

    • Seems to also available on HN's website, https://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-galaxy-s8-64gb-midni…
Might worth a try for those that's still got HN/Domayne gift cards, if they can get a price match

    • Confirmed I price matched a dock from amazon in OW from the past so this should work.

    • +1

BTW if you use CashRewards you'll get the 5% in cashback anyway.

      • ah good point (just sans the GST, which at the end isn't too much to fuzz about)
        probably less stress too

and just got off the phone with OW, they were able to price match, you just have to pay over-the-phone to proceed with ordering.

Almost cheaper than buying a new screen !

    • Yeah I cracked mine… Just the glass. Turns out it's essentially impossible to change just the glass… Balls.

      • +1

most if not all new phones have the screen and glass built together

    • If by "Almost" you mean double the price than, yeah I guess. (And that $280 includes a new battery, effectively giving you a brand new phone)

      • Is that fixing the screen through Samsung? They quote $250 for the regular S8 screen replacement on their website, but doesn't say anything about also including a new battery.

        • Yeah that's through Samsung, it does include a new battery, don't know why they just said it comes in the package with the screen. They did a great job too as you would expect I guess, phone came back looking like brand new.

    • +3

" All phones come with Samsung Australia Limited left over Warranty and our 6 Month Australia Wide replacement Warranty."

      Left over warranty?

      Also:

"All Phones come in a generic box packaging with all standard/generic accessories included (USB CABLE + SIM PIN). Please read here for the condition definition : http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/contextual/condition_1.ht…. Minimal marks may present as phone is not brand new."

    • Nice sharing. But the item is new: never used, not brand new.

New: Never Used. A new, unused item with absolutely no signs of wear. The item may be missing the original packaging, or in the original packaging but not sealed. The item may be a factory second or a new, unused item with defects. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections. See all item conditions

The Galaxy S8 is a still a great phone with a pretty good camera imo. I've had my s8+ since it was released a couple of years ago and it's still going strong. For that price, I still highly recommend it.

    • it's an okay phone, it's biggest criticism at launch was it still had the same camera as the S7 and ultimately wasn't much different in most aspects to the S7. I still run an S7 Edge - I'm watching S9+ prices now that the S10 has launched as that will feel like an actual upgrade and not the same phone just slightly better.

      • I'm still using the S7 Edge as well and agree that the S8 would not be an upgrade.

That said, if you just wanted/needed a new phone and didn't want to spend whatever the S10 is going to be (or even S9 prices), this price is pretty damn good for what you get, IMO.

  • just rang them again and all price matching related must be done instore and theyll beat 5%

  • I got one from Phonebot not long ago for $475 - as new, no scratches nothing, works like a charm, just wait for them to have another deal on soon - highly rec and you get a screen protector and a case inclusive

  • +3

Been using an S8+ for near on 2 years. Easily one of the best phones i've had.

    • Me too and agreed. Doesn't feel out of date and still getting updates :)

  • Waiting for s8 plus deals

  • heard s8 is getting Android Pie soon with one UI. can't wait :)

Edit: rocking s8 since 2 years and going strong (with a minor crack on screen and smashed back multi times)

3 months ago before the S7 came out i got my S6 Aus stock from JB $600. The green version even came with the VR set. I don't see a justifiable reason why the price of the S9 doesn't go down under $700 as the S10 is already out. Not sure why this trend of every new flagship phone retails higher $200 the the predecessor at announcement. The tech upgrades are not that much advanced compared to the previous model. Must be very rich people around happy to throw money at anything new that comes out…

    • Agreed. The price of these phones for what you get vs. older models is bloody hard to justify in my opinion. Very hard to justify $1,300 (?) for an S10 vs. this price on the S8. From a functionality perspective, is the S10 really packing the best part of $800 worth of better kit?

      • Nope it isn't. You wouldn't see much difference going from a 7 to 10 aside from better design and screen.

  • +3

Just got one for my partner from officeworks with the price beat paid $540.55 thanks op! https://imgur.com/a/6PNZenI

  • +2

Amazing how stubbornly high this phone's price has stayed. I picked one up for about $660 18 months ago, yet $100 less is still considered a bargain.

    • For a bit more context I got a pretty good condition S7 Edge off of Gumtree for $300 a couple of weeks after the S9 dropped. Just had a look and the average price on there is still $350 for the S7 edge and people are still asking $500 for the S8 with no cracked glass.

Got this phone on launch day. It was so damn slow just taping to the menu and going to different apps and sections took like seconds. My iphone 5s is faster lol

      Press X To Doubt

    • Interesting post. Thanks. Probably too much trouble but I would love to see a video showing this. I'm looking to upgrade and keep my phone for two years at least.

      • -5

Recommend trying it before buying it. I sold mine the next day. Still have and love my 5s. Guess thats why android takes so much shit when ios doesnt.

  • S8 and S9 look better than the S10. don't like the hole punch camera. looks better with slim bezels and hidden camera.

  • showing 700 for me

    • yeah wow back up to $744. Lucky for those who got pricebeat at OW!

  • Bugger this just paid $799 at JB last week when Mrs phone broke down…😥
    Nice find op 👍
