Thanks OP. My kids love the Garlic and Herb sausages. They reckon they are the best vegan sausages. They also make some nice gluten-free products.

    • +9

Not all Vegie Delights products have the same ingredients. For example, the Gluten Free Mediterranean Koftas are currently $4 (usual price $6.50).

      Ingredients
Water, Chickpeas, Vegetables (Onion, Capsicum), Vegetable Oils (Sunflower, Canola), Red Split Lentils, Pea Protein, Tomato, Spices, Garlic, Carrageenan Gum, Salt, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Herbs, Red Cayenne Chilli (Acetic Acid), Yeast Extract, Minerals (Zinc, Iron), Vitamin (B12), Pepper, Chilli

      • Agree twocsies, and these taste great!

      • Sorry, I read the ingredients too quickly. Chickpeas are also a rich source of phytoestrogens (though not on the scale of soy protein).

The gluten free lentil patties have even less.

The Phytoestrogens is nonsense, if you consume fat the bacteria in the gut that produces them 100x more than what is in the food. You need a low fat diet.

Also these fake meats are unhealthy almost as much as real meat but they are better for the environment.

    • +13

      full of phytoestrogens

So what? Meat is full of animal hormones.

      raises cholesterol

That is fine. Cholesterol is a precursor to testosterone not a fatal disease.

    • +10

Cholesterol is vital to the structure of every single cell in your body. And there’s nothing wrong with phytoestrogen, it’s a plant hormone. There’s nothing wrong with estrogen either. All men produce estrogen. You’re not going to grow boobs from consuming soy products.

No need to worry about the vegans, I’m sure their cholesterol and hormone levels are fine.

Absolutely. Only a problem if too much of one thing.
Maybe I am biased. I know vegan can be great in principle, but the two I know do not eat well.

        • +2

Obviously you're biased! It's not possible to hold such absurdly incorrect opinions nowadays with the advent of the internet otherwise.

        • +8

          Sample size of 2, fantastic

    • +2

Irrelevant to the deal. Go bark somewhere else

  • +11

A sausage that's actually good for you. I'm in.

    • Lots of sausages are good for you in moderation. It is the processed ones that are less so - like salami or hot dogs.

But I love these veggie ones too. Will get some when in Coles.

      • +4

Meat sausages are made with discarded parts of the animals. Queensland meat works person confirmed they use lips, anuses and intestines of hogs for their organic sausages. And it's legal. Enjoy

        • Doesn't sound particularly appetizing, but those parts don't seem unhealthy, apparently we should be encouraged to eat organ meats…

          • @bailbondsh: Sure, an anus and intestines of a pig can't be unhealthy.

        • Some meat sausages. I avoid those finely minced ones. Aka "pink slime".
Still tastes better than tofu - just joking, tofu does not taste of anything, but add fermented soy, mushrooms etc , mmmm… :-) Fish sauce if you are semi-veg.

Anyway, what is actually wrong with offal? I think we are just squeamish.

    • No sausages are good for you.

  • +3

Thanks OP. This is a great opportunity to stock up!

  • +2

    These taste great, good deal.

Time to file down my K-9s and get some….

    • +10

Hippo's and gorilla's have much bigger canines than you have and both species don't eat meat. Time to get a better excuse if you really think your canine teeth are for meat.

      • +2

Haha I know…it's such a silly thing to say. The architecture of the human body certainly does not suggest obligate carnivore. It's exactly why meat had to be cooked before consumption unlike those that are actually carnivorous. Intestine length, jaw movement and so on.

      • he struggled with the spelling of canine I think too lol

For a sec, looking at the photo, looks like a pile of xbox game for clearance.

    • you see what you want to see :P

    • Thought the exact same thing and came here to say it. I stand with you @cloudie9 :)

    • Thats why i clicked on it to begin with…

    • ya'll just a bunch of nerds mate

  • Thanks OP, stocking up!

I have a feeling this will not go down very well, but I'm after the answer to one question.

Vegans don't want to eat meat, but they want to eat something that tastes as close to it as possible. Why?

    • +6

It's a really common question. Not all vegans do - I don't myself. As for others, it's merely about taste. Some vegans enjoy the taste but see the life of an animal as the more important thing. It's all about not wanting to support animal cruelty and understanding that there is no moral ground to justify the killing of an animal that doesn't want to die when it is unnecessary.

However, if that taste can be replicated without harming anyone, then there is no problem.
To be fair, it's often the replication of the seasoning, herbs, etc that people also prefer. It may not even be the meat. (For a lot of people these are the tastes and flavours they have grown up with and know.)

Don't be worried to ask a serious question about veganism. :)

    • +2

I am not a Vegan but have been a vegetarian for 50 years. There is no way i want to eat anything that looks, smells or tastes like meat.
Just the thought of eating meat makes me feel crook.

      • +3

Agreed! Though I moved from vegetarian to vegan myself. I thought being vegetarian meant not being involved in the cycle of suffering. I soon discovered the truth behind dairy and how very wrong I was!

      • +1

I appreciate your insight. Do these "sausages" look, smell or taste like meat?

        • +1

The herb and garlic ones? In terms of look, they look like sausages, but then sausages look how they are because they are convenient to eat in that form.

To me they don't smell like meat. Don't taste it to me either. They taste good in my opinion. Very nice in fact. I tend to eat more plant based mince myself these days, but these are definitely a good option.

      • +3

Dairy and eggs kill as much animals as the meat industry. Worst scenario, these two industries exploit and abuse animals before slaughtering them. Therefore you should go vegan

    • +2

Why? Because when you have been raised and conditioned since birth to enjoy the taste of meat it's often very hard to turn off that taste stimulation of the tongue and brain. Taste preference is something that can develop as far back as from what a mother is eating while she is pregnant. Someone raised from conception with no meat or dairy in their diet is far less likely to crave it as usually our taste buds react more to sweet over meat.

      • +1

I guess that makes sense, so vegans crave meat but don't allow themselves to have it? Instead they have things that are as close to it as possible.

Unless they have been brought up by vegan parents and crave a strawberry or something instead.

        • +3

so vegans crave meat but don't allow themselves to have it?

No. Never blanket statement as that's assuming everyone is the same. Everyone is different to their tastes. Some people get so repulsed when they see how meat is sourced and processed that their brain switches off to that taste stimuli instantly. Some like myself form a distaste after abstaining for awhile. I used to really crave burgers and for quite awhile I absolutely loved triple cheeseburgers, whoppers, quarter pounders etc, but now when I see a burger on TV I think it looks really disgusting.

          • +1

            @LikeMike:

so some vegans crave meat but don't allow themselves to have it?

I have to admit though, I find all this fascinating.

            • +2

@pennypincher98: Honestly it's not that big a deal. Taste isn't inherently "evil"… If you can replicate the taste of an animal product without the suffering, the environmental impact and in many cases, the health repurcussions, then what's the issue?

I enjoy the taste of products like these sausages yet I've never eaten meat other than fish (I used to be pescatarian, now vegan). They were never parts of a sentient creature, they are simply plants with a distinct flavour

    • +5

Cause people ain't vegan cause meat taste bad lol

    • I'm heterosexual and like having sexual relationships with people of the opposite sex.

I could possibly achieve the same sexual gratification with a member of my own sex but I don't feel the need or desire to.

      TL:DR - I don't eat meat.

      • What are you referring to as "meat" lol. Especially because this post is about sausages it's slightly concerning..

  • +2

    Love these snags! Thanks op

  • Wish I could eat these but the place I am staying at currently has a no onion no garlic no mushroom ontop of no dead animal rule.

Milk is fine but yeah those few dietary rules rule out a lot of even potentially good vegetarian foods.. The reason is something I think to do with desire or something I honestly don't know why.

    But yeah nice deal OP

    • +1

the place I am staying at currently has a no onion no garlic no mushroom ontop of no dead animal rule.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but did you suffer any trauma or illness recently? I think you died and went to the Bad Place.
      Is frozen yoghurt allowed?

  • I remember getting some form of veggie nuggets by frys or something? They were good. Bought the "Schnizel" today, see how we go
