          FWIW I'd avoid.

          This is the manufacturer's page and they've avoided giving almost any info on it other than basics e.g dimensions. Compare that to other makers and you can only assume they're either incompetent or hiding very mediocre specs.

        • I've been very happy with a 65" non-Smart Changhong bought 2+ years ago. It's way better than a 65" "smart" Sonig of the same vintage that we also own.

          Little things like ARC work well and the backlight is pretty even across the screen.

          I can't comment on this model though…

    • I have a Changhong and the TV is ok. The speakers and remote control quality are crap though.
      By the way, whoever thought up the name Chiq (ChangHong IQ) should go back to marketing school.

      If it is changhong vs TCL the winner should be TCL.

      It is like comparing Hisense with LG.. LG wins hands down.

      But check specs to see which has the right one for you.

      Panel wise my bet is on TCL.

    Oof that’s a costly box at $400 off for some carton damage.

    How does this compare to a non carton damaged 65” Soniq at $699 or a 65” TCL at $845?

      My experience has been that they're on par with Soniq. Just cheapo TVs. Picture quality will obviously been dependant on the model but in terms of quality of build and usability, just similar cheapo stuff.

    • Without investigating further, my guess would be this TV is not worth an extra $300, even if the carton wasn't damaged.

    • $499 for 65” is unheard of…

      • I have seen it before I think there still might be a JVC 65 inch 4k on ebay around that in St Marys like there was before but this was a while ago but there are definitely 65 inch 4k TV's around $500 just very bare bones and probably not the best for proper viewing.

        Uncommon but definitely not unheard of.

        But they are like finding gtx 1070 refurbished laptops i.e very rare but they definitely do exist if you keep a look out and are lucky with timing.

    Worth noting that it is against Australian Consumer Law to require customers to register for their warranty, or to receive a longer warranty period.

    So you should receive 5 years, whether you 'register' or not for the warranty. Just keep any paperwork or the web listing showing it has a 5-year warranty down the line just in case.

    • Genuine question. Can you point me to a section of the ACL or a regulation made under the ACL that provides as you have stated? I know that US Federal law says something along these lines, but was unaware that the ACL did as well.

      • Yeah I don't think so. They give 3 year warranty. It's up to the consumer to register for more than that if they choose. It's like they're basically giving an extended warranty for free.

        • Sorry I only saw this now, but it regards the expect life of the product. If they’re willing to warrant the product for an additional period that implies the product is expected to last that long and thus the warranty should cover that period.

          Even though this mentions paid warranties, the argument is the same. The registration for a longer warranty doesn’t offer anything extra over what your consumer rights are.

          • @BillyG687: It's fairly vague and I think can be taken either way. Wouldn't think that most people or companies would expect you to be able to return a product with 3 yr warranty after 4 years. If they had an extended warranty of 5 yrs you paid extra for, no problem. This company is doing it for free if you register with them. Which I'm sure means you will have to get marketing and other stuff constantly. So in a way it's kind of fits under the same banner.
