My phone from 2015, the Samsung Galaxy S6 has a 1440p resolution, why is it that so many new phones still sit around 1080p? I have been looking to upgrade to something with the trendy minimalist look, but I don't really see the point in getting something that has lower quality image even if it is 4 years old now.
Because the human eye can’t distinguish an increase in pixel density much beyond 1080p in most use cases of a mobile phone. So, a pixel density of 1440p is going to look pretty much the same, or exactly the same, as 4K. So any higher resolution just uses more battery power to light more pixels that the human eye doesn’t even notice anyway.
The only real reason to get a 1440p (and the only scenario where you can really see a difference) is when you use it with a VR headset like google cardboard where the phone is literally a few cm away from your face. Asides from taht you won't be able to tell, but will notice the better battery life which is better for day to day use
Does this one have better camera than OnePlus 6t?
How does this phone compare to the Samsung galaxy s9?
Or s8
Or s7?
Thanks
You're probably better off with a Samsung device (S9 series) mostly because of the UI/UX and raw specs.
Compare on gsmarena.com you can check photo & video comparison as well
id rather an S9, S8 or an S7 over this. each of them would be more powerful and each of them have a better screen (and probably a better camera too). each of them also has a headphone jack, and no notch.
I disagree, have you got a Samsung Galaxy S7 and OPPO R17 Pro to do a direct comparison?
Have you factored in battery life / charge times, latest snapdragon, increased memory and camera?
I'm sure the S7 which is nearly three years of age would not compare just quietly ;)
You also need to factor in the cost of this phone compared with the Galaxy S9 Plus which retails for double the price.
Obviously I wouldn't pay $599 for an S7 or even an S8, and i am assuming a new-for-new comparison here. But I still think i would rather an S7 over any Oppo phone.
@xyron: Haha, you are funny
S7 definitely would not compare when it comes to performance (not day to day ). Would not be so noticeable in day to day operations but some regularly updated apps might operate a little less smoothly on an S7. Also remaining on stock means updates are unlikely.
@chriaj2689: Just the fact that s7 is still on microUSB would turn me away.
I just checked my local jb-hi-fi and the oppo R17 pro on display was priced at 899. Can someone confirm if the price is still 599 anywhere?
Only Emerald green is $599. Available in Bourke Street Melbourne
Alright, so if I call them on the phone and ask to confirm should this work for the price match or how would I go about that? I attempted to get a photo with the current date.
Got one at Officeworks. Yet to be delivered. Having doubts about this hasty purchase. Leaning towards cancelling my order.
But then how low will Samsung galaxy s9 plus and Huwaei mate 20 will get
Still think v30+ deal was much much better.
Are you still trying your best at flogging that thing off?
Nope. Using it now.
Anyone have a photo of Pro version 599 priced in store?
Gah! Just visited 3 stores around perth and not one could get the price of 599. Even when scanning into the POS. Any idea anyone?
Is it the Purple/blueish colour? because that is full price.. Only the Green is the one on sale
Yeah we had a green r17 pro. Was scanning at 799. Bummer! Maybe not available in WA.
just a quick perhaps stupid question, is it still available at this price in Melbourne JB stores ?
can't seem to find any reference and of course the jb website banner is no longer there too :(
maybe i was a bit too late
Prices have gone back up to $799 according to there website.
I'm glad I picked one up yesterday at the discounted rate of $569 using a 5% discount through work.
Don’t know why people violently ejaculate over an Oppo… Awful software, zero updates and horrific cameras… Totally overrated.
LG V30 for $479 much better value.
Been to 5 stores in the past two weeks, trying to look for the V30+. Much better value, sure, if you can find a store with stock.
Price error. Its back up to $799
Wasn't a price error, was just a 1 day thing.
Anyone got Office Work receipt for price beat?
Brought up the banner with the deal on my phone, ran to officeworks but jb took the banner off by the time I got there. (profanity). At least I did some cardio on my lunch break
