Dang, I paid $45 last week and got bored real quick. Ass story, generic FPS gameplay, follows the standard Ubisoft formula, and hasn’t really improved all that much since Far Cry 4. One redeeming factor though, co-op is a blast to mess around with your mates, but that only lasts so long I felt personally.

Would you say watch dogs 2 is better or is it still plagued by the ubisoft formula?

      • I put a lot of hours into this Far cry, for me the forula works.
Watchdogs 2 was ok, tried to be too cool, stealth was a bit unbalanced, was keep to get to the ending.
        Both are good $20ish games.

      • See, the thing is that Watch Dogs 2 is a few years old at this point. I bought it about a year after launch, and loved it. I truly enjoyed the game a lot, and have personally bought the highest edition on two different platforms, and finished the game completely on both as well, spending hundreds of hours doing so. I would say that though Far Cry 5 may look a little better because it's newer and has more up-to-date graphical advances, Watch Dogs 2 is also a solid buy, because the gameplay is really enjoyable, despite it looking slightly inferior graphically. Anyway, if you do decide to get Watch Dogs 2, just shoot me a message and I'll add you, and I can help you learn the ropes :)

Personally I found Watch Dogs 2 really cliche and cringey with its hipster theme but all in all I really enjoyed it. The hacking is quite a unique mechanic and I thought what made it awesome was the creativity it allowed through the various skills you get to use. Stealth was a must though as it was what made the game truely satisfying to play.

The Ubisoft formula is what I’d say contains a large map cut into sections with a whole load of pointless collectables to make it appear there is more depth and things to do in the map. Typically the trend seems to be that zones are ruled by a boss and you are forced to grind all the quests/missions/ and side quests till you unlock a boss fight level. It can be seen in other titles such as Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Assassins Creed Origins (can’t speak for the newest one). Personally it doesn’t do it for me as now that I’ve played 3 games with this formula, it’s starting to get bland. I will admit I thought it worked well in AC Origins because the story was adequate and the gameplay is a lot of fun. However for my other two examples if I wasn’t given the titles of Wildlands and F5, I’d name them as generic 3rd person Ubisoft game with preferred but unrequired stealth mechanics, and Generic 1st person Ubisoft game with preferred but unrequited stealth mechanics.

One thing to add though to the people who want to go hating on me being critical of Ubisoft. Even though it Isn’t my cup of tea, it is perfectly fine to enjoy these games. Seeing the copies they sell, clearly there are many that are happy with the current way Ubisoft develops there games, and I will say there definitely is some fun to be had, but overall, I personally feel that there are better options out there.

Edit: Come to think of it, Watch Dogs 2 released prior to the introduction of the so called “Ubisoft Formula”.

Currently cheaper on GMG (~AUD$19) (so long as you don't mind a Uplay key)

    • I may be wrong but I think most Ubisoft games make you launch through UPlay anyway. So the advantages you get on steam are easier updating alongside all your other games (not useful for this game since it likely won't get many updates in the future) and steam's policies. Most importantly the refund policy which I heard ubisoft treats like a joke. So it might be wise paying more for steam copy if you aren't 100% sure on whether to get it or not.
Otherwise you can just buy it on Uplay and add it as a non steam game to get the overlay+controller support.

      • I personally prefer to buy on Steam (even if at a slight premium) because of a few reasons, it's where all my games and friends are, plus Steam Support is leagues superior to Ubisoft support, and their refund policy is a godsend. I love knowing that if I don't like the game, I can simply get my money back within 2 weeks, providing I haven't played for too long.

  • Have to wait until I finish 3+4 :)

    • 3 is awesome, as far as i'm concerned it's where the series peaked.
      4 was ok, haven't played 5 yet.

        1 Was old
        2 Was a classic
        3 Was awesome
        4 Was Okay
        5 Was Meh

Downhill spiral for me at least :(
