28 Degrees Credit Card - Get $20 When Making a $500 Overseas Transaction

80

Hi, just received an email from 28degrees stating below, I assume it’s targeted as well as you are required to activate the promotion. There’s a spend of $500 though.

Extract from the email below:

“As you know your 28 Degrees Platinum Mastercard has no currency conversion or international transaction fees.

So for a limited time, you could receive a $20 account credit just for spending internationally on your card when shopping online or travelling overseas”

I've had a terrible experience with 28 degrees and their cashbacks. The cashback doesnt hit your account for up to 3 months from the date you qualify. In my case, it did not hit at all and I had to spend close to half hour on the phone with them explaining the situation.

Would not be keen to handle the customer service there again. But as always, YMMV.

    • I've had nothing but good experiences with the cashbacks, so, yes, defo YMMV :)

    • I'm in the same boat. But it doesnt seem worth the effort to try and get it back.

I've had no issues with the 2 or 3 cashbacks I have received.

4% return. Prob worth it if you were going to buy overseas anyway.
Easier to get $20 with those SIMs deal through Cashreward/shopback 🤣

  • off topic sorry
could anyone who uses 28 degrees card please let me know
My intention will be to pay my 28 degrees credit card balance amount by the due date every month ( if I end up getting this card)
Is there a fee to pay my credit card amount or can I do it online for free
(a bit confused by what I read on the website thanks)

There is a small fee for BPay payments. Online payment is free, it is basically getting the money from your bank account through their website.

and the online payment can't be future dated.

        • You also cannot "overpay" your account via the Online Payment facility. You can still do it via Bpay though.

          • @endlesstrail: I haven't tried this recently, but there was a hole around this. You couldn't overpay when there was a statement generated that needed to be paid. But if you made a payment between the due date (after paying the balance) and the next statement close date you could overpay.

    • The BPay payments will attract a fee of $0.95 as PAYMENT HANDLING FEE (ONLINE). A Bank Transfer does not attract any fee, you can pay your bill from 28 degree website by providing your BSB and Acc number.

You can setup auto direct debit from your bank account. On the day it is due they take out the full amount from your bank account. Set and forget.

      • this is exactly what i want to do… will hunt this down

28 degrees is kinda doggy with repayments.

If you want to pay not using Bpay (which has a .95$ fee) then you can only pay once every 3-5 days.

So for example if you pay a bit under what is due 2 days before the due date, you will get hit with interest fees

      • which is what I was thinking
        want to pay in full
at the same time don't want to slugged with fees.

if I bank with westpac for example, how does westpac know the balance due on the 28 degrees card?

would be easier with the westpac bank and westpac credit card (as it is the same bank)
trying to understand how my bank and 28 degrees card would "talk to each other" to figure out the exact balance, and still pay on time.
doesn't direct debit work best with a fixed amount

        • An ongoing payment permission means that every time your payment is due, 28 degrees request the due amount from your bank. If the funds are available in your nominated account, the bank pays the amount that was requested.

If you pay the 28 degrees bill by bank transfer, there is no fee charged. But if you are doing manual bank transfers every month, you will have to do the transfer at least three days (business days? Unsure) before the due date of your 28 degrees statement, or it may not be paid in time by your bank.

        • You have around 25 days from statement date to due date. Timing shouldn't really be an issue as you know how much is due and when. Or just setup a direct pay and 28 degrees will take whatever you agreed to directly out of your savings account on the due date.

The only time this card is a pain is if you have signed up for the insurance, and don't want to pay for it.

Insurance is charged on the closing balance. So if you time it right and pay the balance just before it closes the insurance ends up costing you nothing.

This became a pain for me, I cancelled the insurance and don't use this card for anything I want insurance on.

It's still good for a fee free card to use overseas and on overseas purchases giving you free credit.

28° used to be fantastic back in the day but now there are many good credit cards to choose from, each with their own benefits.

could you please name a few of the zero fee international transaction cards thanks

      • I can name the one I use - BankWest zero platinum, no annual fee, no overseas currency exchange charges and free travel insurance (limited to Platinum) provided you use the card to purchase at least $500 of your holiday costs.

  • Is it eligible if paid via integrator eg paypal?

    • I'd assume it would have to be a foreign currency to trigger this
