    I have it's predecessor - the MX279h - and it's great for gaming.

Friend, I mean more in the sense of "if you are looking for a gaming monitor". For a little more ($50) you can get a 144hz panel which would be better (albeit 24").

      • So you're only paying $50 more for less screen size? not a real fair comparison, what about same screen size?
Im on the lookout for a good gaming monitor 27" or bigger.

        • Friend, for gaming (especially comp fps) the screen size is actually less important than the refresh rate, and youll find a lot of pros will use 24" instead of 27". Thats the logic behind my reasoning. 27" 144hz is around $350 starting for the baseline models

          • @Jenny Death: I used to play gaming very competitively in my younger days, and IMO I'd much rather an IPS screen at 60hz than a 144hz TN screen. TN screens mean I need to take a break every 30 minutes or so because my eyes are sore.

That said, I've moved on to the asus eye care 75hz 1440p monitor and it too is awesome for gaming. :)

        Very funny!

I used mine for Battlefield 3 & 4, Star Wars Battlefront, Quake Live, Borderlands 2 and a bunch of other games and it was great.

I had a triple monitor setup of the MX279H which were fantastic IPS screens. Definitely great for years of gaming even though not the latest must have spec.

I believe the VX series are the same but curved and have no in built speakers and different ports configuration. Rest should be the same.

      • Cheers I may very well buy this sucker.

Just bear in mind this is a VA panel not IPS panel like the MX series. It will have better refresh rates and contrast levels, but have worse viewing angles (not so much an issue when curved and sitting directly in front) and poorer color production (not for digital photo/video editing). Still miles better than a TN panel.

          • @Hybroid: Yerp, pulled the trigger.
It will be my main monitor on my aging computer and it seems suitable to my aging eyes.

            • @Filbert: How much did you pay for that monitor and what size?

              • @ufsta: Ummm I brought the one that the thread isallabout.

    • using mx279h right now and doing very well while other Asus that has displayport(can't remember the name)died…

  • I bought this monitor yesterday after seeing this post. Everything was fine until I turned the monitor on, there was high pitched noise came out from the screen and the plug and as I turn the brightness up/down the frequency changes too. What's wrong with my monitor?

    • I would suggest to check your connecting cables.

      • Thank you for your reply, I brought the monitor to PLE couple days ago and they gave me the replacement

        • yes probably a bad unit. Good to know it is all sorted out for you!
