  • What does it complement?

  • From memory it allows you to get a checkup, clean and mineralisations every six months for each person listed on the fund. My wife and I saved 350 last week for two checkups. It's worth cashing in if you have acçess to it. that's how it works with defence health anyway…

    • You get that anyway with any private health insurance policy

      • I don't think it's the case with all policies and even if it is, not many people know about it. It's also normally only through certain providers. Most are through this smile 'membership'

        • Every single extras policy I have ever had has had this. Even the most basic policies. And I change providers a lot. Have never been restricted to choose certain dentists for any preventative dental work. Cosmetic dental work on the other hand is different and some providers may limit you to certain dentists.

          • @toobzy: Do you mean that the free work is in most plans? I know you normally get a percentage back but I am supprised a 100% refund is so common. If it is though, all good 👍

            • @Pargain: Sorry, I looked into it, and it would seem I was slightly mistaken. Not all dentists will participate in 100% refund for a check-up and clean, but most will. At least all the ones I have tried have. A few funds will say they want you to use their preferred dentists, however if you call and speak to the clinics themselves, they will most likely refund it 100%. You can just google something like 'no gap dentist checkup' too.

  • I got sold on smile a few years ago when I thought it was the cheapest way I could get dental care. The reality is that the discounts smile sells you on are off full RRP, and most dentists nearly already match the discount by default, or will if you just ask (got told as much when I had my first appointment). Better off getting extras with major dental coverage to save some actual money.
