You can use it to keep your hydroponic tomatoes within a precise temp range. Only know because a friend told me.

        Aaaaah "tomatoes" eh?

Nice unit. Just bought $24 kit of parts to make similar controller (without displays, case, warranty, & not prewired). Still to get soldering iron out.
    Otherwise would buy.

Using to turn large upright freezer into fridge.
Others use for temp control for fridge in brewing beer.

    • Jaycar refunded the $24 for the kit. Now to decide on which model to buy…

    • Neg then?

    • I'd much rather spend an extra 80c to buy directly from the company.

I got this one last week for brewing beer in an old fridge out the back. It's perfect for it!

Had one for around a year in much the same setup, works a treat!

    • Yeah temp controllers are great for brewing good beer. Personally I have the KegKing temp controller (this one was dearer when I was looking). Living in NSW it was great for use with the heat belt in winter and the fridge in summer. Now I am in the Qld tropics and it's used for cooling all year round lol.

    • 1 for the unit.

I have been using it for almost 2 years. working great.

Bought a Freezer + temp controller for = Kim-chi refrigerator. works great!

I use something similar to this with a slow cooker for "sous vide". Works great.

  • Good failsafe for controlling fish tank temperature

  • Great solution for temp control for brewing as mentioned above.

Looks like a very nice product, but not a bargain… looks like it has been at this price for a while based on past sales. It was ~45 delivered from amazon au a few months ago too.

  • 99c cheaper exact item found in eBay

STC-1000 for ~$12 if you are comfortable with some DIY wiring.

    • Was considering it as is much cheaper - plenty of videos of how to set up (search STC-1000).

Main differences - 220v (+/-10%) should be OK, single display, no handy mains plug & outlets - but simple connections for cables, designed to be fitted in case - otherwise wiring on back will be exposed.

Wiring: on similar mains tasks, I've cut a 10A extension lead in 2, using plug end for input, socket for output. I only need 1 mains output to plug in fridge for cooling.

Note: There are a few different voltage units (12V, 110V, 220V) so make the right choice!

I actually used this to make a chest freezer work as a fridge. super simple to set up and with the chest freezer having far better insulation and keeping all the cool air in when opening the lid made for incredibly low power fridge. I used it off grid and was a great cheap option.
