    Annnnnnnnd, they’re gone.

    • when I bought mine it said more on the way…not sure if it will be restocked on time for the increased cashback though.

    • Less than 21 minutes.

  • Sorry, I took the last one.
I did the cashback thing. I activated it before purchasing it.
Is it supposed to show up in the cashback activity? It's my first time using shopback.

I don’t think it’s instant but you should see it later today.

Just letting you guys know that I bought two of the 8TB SMB ones about a year ago and both have died after being shucked into my PC.

    • Yikes, I have two as well. I haven't removed them from the casing though.

    • What is smb?

    • Luckily, seagate don’t make 10TB SMR drives!

I own 6 of these shucked from cases (guys in Perth gumtree were selling these for $200-$220 new/boxed local stock over the past few months) and they all ended up being Helium filled drives.

You are better of with the 10tb WD drives in the WD external enclosures. They are amazingly quiet and do not get hot. The Seagates get hot and are annoying loud. There is the situation off seagates being terribly unreliable but I don't know anything about 10tb Seagate heliums.
The WD externals go on sale around $275 and lower.

The 200 price mark for new local 10TB drives was simply too good to pass up. Been running all 6 in my NAS without at heat/noise issues so the Helium filled drives do differ & behave from other enterprise seagate drives I own (faster 7200 rpm, but also warmer running and more audible, albeit with 5 yrs warranty).

No way I’d recommend anyone buying a SMR based drive though. as I also had a couple of 8TB seagate backup units (earlier model of these without the USB hub) die within a day of unboxing.

          • @xuqi: Oh, I got the two with the USB hub. So far they're going strong.

        • I'm planning on having my friend in the US mail me a bunch of EasyStores (I take it those are what you meant).

They will be filled up with museum archival content and marked as a charitable donation - do you know if I will have problems with bringing them into Australia?

          • @runean: I had my mate do this with 3 drives at a touch over 900 ion for 3 including shipping. The Elements ones on Amazon AU for 240 or so ended up being cheaper, plus with CR/SB and faster delivery. Got 3 of each in the end. Only one Elements didn't need the 3.3V hack, all others did (2 Elements, 3 MyBook).

    • How do we know if its SMR or not?

      • +1

Easiest way is to google it and usually there is a reddit post about the type of hard drive. Or just play it safe and get the 10tb as seagate dont make 10tb SMR drives

        • Cool, thanks - this was a great deal then, unfortunately I missed it

          • @bpop99: If you keep an eye on it of create a camelcamelcamel price watch it may come back in stock as it has over the day

      • +1

Seagate don’t make 10TB SMR as yet.

  • what???!!! NIGHT OWLS ONLY??? FROM A .AU website??? GEEEEZ!!!

  • +1

back in stock! 4 left, more on way it says! Than you OP been eyeing the 8TB and this is even cheaper!

    • +1

i just noticed that too! just got one!

  • Is there a trick to it? mine is showing $420 from mwave

    • +1

looks like sold out again sorry :( keep an eye on it it may came back again

    • Blaze it.

    Seagate so would avoid anyway…

It's still available — just need to select the "for MAC" option. You get a white case, which could be a bonus or not depending on your preference.

    • +3

      Isn't that the 8TB?

      • +1

correct and it would probs be an SMR drive which you should avoid

    • Is there a physical difference between the two? Why is the mac one showing up aa cheaper?

      • +1

Because, as stated above, click on Hub for Mac and changes to an 8TB drive. Its cheaper because its a smaller drive

    • +1

Shit. As mentioned by others, that's for the 8TB version and I'm an idiot.

  • +1

    Now back in stock

    • I cant add to to cart or buy it now. Trying to go through shopback website, dont know what the issue is. Keeps saying shopping cart is empty etc.

      • Yeah seems to have gone out of stock again, mustn't have been available for long.

      • Yes, on the website, I saw it had "8 units available". Probably sold out before you managed to add to cart.

      • back in stock (only 2 though)

  • I bought a 8TB last year, also a OzBargain deal. Just be aware that the power plug is for USA, so you will need an adaptor of some sort.

    • these are being shipped locally not via Amazon US, wouldn't they be local stock? Was yours from Amazon AU or US?

    • Use pair of plier turn to AUS plug. I do this all the time

    • I just received mine and it comes with a travel power adaptor, just clip in then AU prongs! :)

  • +1

2 in stock as of this comment

    • +1

and out again, ill keep watching every now and then

  • Just bought one - it was advertised as $420 supplied from the USA, but there was AU stock when I clicked on "8 new from $244"

  • the page has been removed at this time.

the 2 available were not available to purchase and was a typical amazon glitch.

amazon are as shonky as hell - us deals are routinely not available to order through amazon au so the advertising for prime au is effectively deceptive conduct.

if we had any rights something would be done but we don't anymore so we're all screwed.

    • it seems as though it goes in and out of stock all the time

  • That was disappointingly quick!

    • +1

      Thats what she said.

      (Sorry I had to.)

  • Guys there is a portable 5Tb version backup plus for$172 before shop back 12% cash back ($153). I think only black color is this price. I bought one this morning cos I think IDs pretty good value for portable version.

    • Thanks but $30/TB and with an unknown low capacity drive? It's not really the same thing.

  • If anyone looking to cancel there order please let me know, gutted I missed out
Will gladly take it off your hands

  • back in stock with $415; so expired.

  • Alternative:
WD 10TB Elements Desktop Hard Drive - $352.43

    https://www.amazon.com.au/10TB-Elements-Desktop-Drive-WDBWLG…

  • Looks like there's a limited number back in stock.

  • advertising gear which u cant buy and then restocking at a higher price is pretty standard for Amazon - how do you think they got so big…

    • most the time the seller changes who are selling for a higher price, thats all that is most of the time

      • nope that is not what I wrote or meant

        • I'm just offering my observations when they sell out, yours maybe different, neither us are wrong

          • @Trantor: my observation was that

            1. amazon were advertising the drive as available
            2. had stock
            3. couldn't purchase

yours was to say something different about what happened.

            • @petry: I got one at the advertised price, from amazon AU, after it was restocked the next morning, i'm sorry you missed out

              • @Trantor: zzzzzzz troll

                read the thread more carefully

  • I ordered one at 10:19am on the 31st (when they restocked). Was delivered today. Has anyone else that got theirs from this deal shucked it yet? Says manufactured in 2018 but just want to be sure it is a real drive before voiding the warranty.
