  • If it's so great, whys is it only getting 3 stars on the water saving ratings?

    • +1

3 stars seems to be the highest rating for shower heads
      https://www.choice.com.au/home-improvement/water/saving-wate…

      • Looking at the listing on Bunnings, they have a few that are 4 stars rating such as the one below (7.5L/min).

        https://www.bunnings.com.au/methven-wels-4-star-7-5l-min-chr…

        • Interesting - you're right - and both the unit you mentioned and this one both use 7.5 litres per minute.

          Showers are tested for:
-angle at which water sprays from the head (to be between 0°and 8°)
-drop in temperature between 150 mm and 750 mm below the shower head (no more than 3°C)
-endurance of the flow controller by being turned on and off around 50,000 times
-spray force and coverage (4 star showers only)
          -watertightness
          -water consumption.
-Hoses for handheld models are also tested for performance.

Hi and thanks for your comment. When the Cullector was laboratory tested for the WELS rating three stars was the highest available rating. The standards for testing have recently been updated to include a higher star rating but the Cullector has not been retested to the new standard yet because of the cost involved. The additional features the Cullector incorporates such as the ability to pause the shower without adjusting the taps and the shower timer are also not included in the standards yet. I hope that helps. Cheers

is Cullector a vanity play on your name Cullin?

    • Yep, I was trying to come up with a name that described the what Cullector did and it sort of made sense?! Cheers

  • Looks like a great invention, I'm tempted to get one.

But $79 is starting to look like the regular price, not a genuine bargain.

    • not the regular price but the irregular bargain price (I've been waiting to buy on this price)

    • PS deal is on now not just tomorrow

    • (link to the ABC new inventors of this invention winning)

      • The Cullector was the ABC New Inventors Episode Award Winner! Channel 7 Today Tonight also did a great feature on the Cullector, You can take a look at them here: https://watersavingshowers.com.au/pages/awards cheers

  • I can’t help but think if it collects 5 litres of cold water “before it heats up” then slowly releases it over the next 4-5 minutes your going to end up with a 4-5 minute Luke warm shower… I think I’ll give this bargain a miss.

    • Do you normally run your shower with just the hot on?

      • Hi and thanks for the comment. The cold water that has been harvested is reintroduced into the shower stream at a rate of about one litre per minute and this does not cause a noticeable change to the temperature of the water coming from the shower head. Additionally a small amount of the hot water going directly to the shower head is mixed back into the harvested water to raise its temperature. By the time the bottle is completely drained the water coming from the bottle is the same temperature as the shower stream. This eliminates any chance of a spike in temperature when the bottle becomes fully drained. Cheers

    • Then try or get your $ back

      Q. Do you have a return policy?
      A. Yes, if you are not totally satisfied with your purchase please contact one of our friendly staff by phone or email within thirty days of purchase for a full refund. Items must be returned in original condition and in the original packaging with proof of purchase. Return postage is at the customer's expense.

  • How would this go with an instantaneous gas hot water system which reaches your set temp within a few seconds?

    • +2

Hi and thanks for your comment. If your hot water gets to your shower without any waste you may not need one. The Cullector is designed to be used in showers that waste water during warm up time.

      • +2

Another thing to be aware of if you have an instantaneous hot water system is they have a minimum operational flow rate. Unless your instantaneous hot water system is designed to operate with a minimum flow rate of 7L/pm you may find it switches on and off during your shower. The Cullector reduces the shower flow rate to 6.6 & 6.8 L/pm. I hope this helps, Cheers

  • The "gentle pulse" at the end is it sucking air from the bottle which could be annoying ?
Can this be bypassed? or the pulse stopped with the shower still on?

    • Hi, You are absolutely correct, After about 4 to 5 minutes the bottle is fully drained and a small amount of air is drawn into the system and this creates a small pulse like sensation in the shower stream. So you have a visual and tactile indication that the shower time is up. It is not uncomfortable at all and no-one has ever mentioned any discomfort. Cheers

      • what if I have a short shower and the tank/bottle hasn't drained?

        • +1

Hi, thats a great question. If you take shorter shower for example 2-3 minutes you can adjust the draining time so the bottle drains faster. Also if you want to have a quick cold shower you don't need to fill up the bottle at all. Simply switch the leaver to ON and have a cold shower! I hope this helps, Cheers

  • is there any rebates for this type of water saving product?

    • +1

Different councils offer various types of rebates for water saving devices but I am not aware of any rebates for the Cullector. Your own local council may have rebates for water saving shower heads and systems so you should check with them. I hope this helps. Cheers

  • Got a clever way to save cold water from other taps? ie my kitchen tap which follows about 5 L cold before it warms up?

    • +2

Sorry I can't help you there, but another Australian invention called the Redwater diverter may do the job! You can check it out here: http://www.redwater.net.au I hope this helps, Cheers

  • My shower extends from the ceiling about 300 mm, do you have a retrofit for this type?

    • Sorry but the Cullector has be be installed on the wall outlet, unfortunately it can't be fitted to a ceiling. Cheers

  • Keep up the good work on water saver options. Not sure it is to my taste, with the bottle so "obvious". We capture our water in a bucket and then either use it to flush the loo or water the tree. Best of luck.

    • Thanks so much for your support, it really means a lot and well done with your water saving efforts. My parents did the same thing at home until they got too old to safely move around with a bucket full of water. Cheers

  • Good idea but it'll take a long time to pay itself off…

Water in Sydney is $2.08 a kilolitre so $79 gets you almost 37.98 kilolitres or 37,980 litres.

Best case scenario it saves 5 litres per shower so that's about 7600 showers.

    At 1 shower a day, that's almost 21 years.

At 4 showers a day, that's still about 5 years.

At the full price of $249, the payback is almost not even a consideration

    • +1

Im on rain water so less water use the better !

$79 = one take away meal for the family or feel good every day for using less water

    • +1

Outback NSW is fast running out of drinkable water. For them it is no longer a matter of cost & return on investment, but every drop counts.

      • I understand it's not all about money.

But if you are water conscious you are probably catching the first bits of cold water with a bucket and using it to flush toilet, etc.

Another thing to consider is if multiple family members are showering consecutively, then it would only save water for the first person as the water will already be hot for the people after.

        • +1

The amount of water saved can be significantly more than 5 litres per shower if the other features are used as well, such as the visual and tactile prompt to finish the shower when the bottle becomes fully drained and the pause feature that let you switch off to soap up, shave or shampoo then switch back on without needing to readjust the taps for correct temperature. Also the Cullector gives a very full and comfortable shower at less than 7.0L/pm. I hope this helps. Cheers

Just purchased the Overhead. I've been wanting to install something like this for years. I'm always guilt ridden when I waste so much water every time I take a shower.

As soon as I saw the ad here, I did wonder if it was the NI one.

Why such a discount? Are you making way for new models?

    • +8

Thank you for your purchase and for your support. It's always difficult to get a new product off the ground and as soon as I was starting to get some traction the standards for shower heads changed yet again. Not only am I required to comply with WELS Standards and WaterMark level 2 standards I now need to comply with WaterMark level 1 Standards which requires further laboratory testing, annual factory audits and batch testing! This adds up to many thousands of dollars and may be ok for larger companies but for an inventor trying to bring a single product to market the added cost of compliance can't be justified. I will not be renewing my certification after July this year and hope to sell all of the current stock by then. So that is why I have discounted the Cullector to cost plus shipping. If you know anyone who would like a Cullector please let them know because when they are gone I won't be making any more. I do have the business and the patents up of sale and if I find a purchaser I hope they will continue to be available for many years to come. Since I launched the product millions of litres of water have been saved and many many people have has the satisfaction of a great shower with minimum waste. Cheers

      • So sad to see a good invention go down the drain. After stock is exhausted and no more being made, these shower heads might become cullector's items. Any plan to reduce the eBay listing prices to match this offer?

        • Thanks for your support, I'm still hoping to sell the Australian and US patents to someone that can take the Cullector to the world! I can reduce the price of ebay too if that helps, sometimes you can get a further discount through ebay as well. Thanks for the reminder! Cheers

"WELS Standards"… Roughly translated, means "Water Mafia".

That is a shame to hear. I will definitely pass on the deal to friends and family.

I remember seeing other hot water saving devices. There was a similar one that you could put on every H/C tap, and I think it fed the collected water via the cold tap quite quickly, so was a bit more complex.

Kitchen will be my next one improve. I'll look at that red water option.

Thanks for your hard work and trying. Our market place just isn't designed to support Australian ingenuity (Refer Foltainer, which is now unfortunately a dead project).
