Have a watch of this Video
It honestly doesn't look too bad / useless

  • interesting it seemingly supports mirrorlink

    • I saw that, and was thinking it'd make a great GPS display [Here/Maps/Waze]. The one I'm not sure on is the old " May not have any television or video display visible to the driver when the vehicle is in motion" regulation most jurisdictions seemed to have for good and valid reasons back in the old days when drivers often watched the road.
It's a lot cheaper option than hunting around for an old Nexus 7…

      • What device do you use that has mirror link support? Is it only older devices like galaxy s6?

      • +2

You'd probably just need to ground one of the wires to get rid of the warning screen on video playback or perhaps MirrorLink

        • Er - my worry was about whether it contravene it. Thanks tho - it looks like it doesn't if connected properly to display the warning screen. I wouldn't want to be distracted from my text messages while driving…

Looks ok but Bluetooth V2.thanks Op

    • You can always use USB/SD for audio. As I don't have a beamer or roller I'm not too fussed about the absolute purity of my audio signal when driving tho..

      • Yeah you have to buy knowing its limitations that means the price is low.

        WinCE is kind of… eh…

Any android would be better but as long as it plays mp3s off usb and it can take a rear view camera then…

thanks altomic, I've got to replace the factory radio in my elgrand. This looks like a good start.

i wish the double din fascia's were cheaper for us though lol

    Hmm:
    Awaiting Shipment
Processing Time remaining: 16 days 23 hours 54 minutes

    • They apparently posted it within a couple of hours tho. That was a lot of wiggle room…

  • lol "High-Definition 1080P Screen" but only 800x480 in specs

But yeah it's pretty good value for what it is. Pity no Android Auto/Apple Carplay but MirrorLink is good enough! Be careful though, some people in the comments of the video posted above have said their unit doesn't have MirrorLink.

    • I got the impression they weren't quite sure how to set it up.. The unit demonstrated definitely showed the unit perparingg [sic] and linking.

Can be expensive business if you dont know how to wire it and fill tiny gaps around stereo after installation. If it stops working in a few months then? You know how you feel satisfied when you use a proper thing like a good phone or something you bought and use it regularly and think I am glad I bought it. This item is probably the opposite of that.

    • It's really not that hard but yes, some people probably wouldn't have a clue and they can go pay to have a more expensive unit professionally installed. Not quite sure what your point is, because like just about every bargain posted on this website, not every product is suitable for every person viewing it.

I think Dan is leading towards the old "You get what you pay for"

Having personally seen cheap headunits vs high end ones, I would never buy a cheap unit due to; poor warranty/support, they can be laggy or have long bootup times, poor sound quality.

Picture driving along and the headunit freezes up or laggs badly, not only does this frustrate you but can easily distract you enough to cause an accident.

        Not worth it for me.

Edit: MirrorLink is also not great to use while driving. You are basically operating your phone, it's not made to be used while driving. If you throw a car style theme on your device it might make it a bit safer to use

        • +2

Agreed, but if you have a cheap car (and especially one that you're just waiting to die) it may be less painful dealing with this thing's shortcomings than spending the car's worth on a "proper" unit.

        • I think Android "auto" is supposed to address that. Mirrorlink appears to offer much more than I would ever want to be interested in behind a wheel…

  • Great just bought one for a van i don't even drive! haha
not hard to install i hope, brackets hopefully line up.

  • Probably the only time in my life that I've wanted to be a pair of headphones…

  • These generally have iso connectors
Buy yourself your car to iso adaptor, eg Toyota to iso harness etc
Then you might need fascia panels

  • Tempting to buy for a portable speaker setup.

You'd be surprised what you can buy for twice the price

  • It's got a three star rating at Amazon.

But, when checking the reviews a Fakespot, it gets an adjusted rating of just half a star.
    https://www.fakespot.com/product/2-din-general-car-models-7-…

Alhough to be fair, ReviewMeta show both the original and adjusted ratings as 3.1 stars.
