NBN Co is so screwed :)

Unlimited data at 50Mbps or unlimited data at 1.5Mbps for same price. Hmm :)

It is the trend. How many households use less than 60GB or 150GB already?
And we don't even have 5G yet.

In a few years, NBN will see declining subscribers, and only the heaviest users (incl yourself?) remaining.

        • +3

          stability & ping

5G will have the same saturation issue, unable to deliver on congested tower.

    • Don't think so. Maximum speed I can get is less than 4 Mbps with any mobile provider at home. Until I can get at least 25 Mbps consistently, mobile will not be a choice for me. I think there are quite a lot of people in the same boat as me.

I get 5Mb on ADSL (still waiting for nbn) and 50 Mb on 4G. It is already a sgood as typical NBN plans,
but I'm talking about future trends. More cells and 5G means more generous data caps.

Sorry it is poor where you are.

    • Ever tried running a server on mobile network?

  • damn that speed cap

  • It's worth noting that these aren't mobile broadband plans but are instead sim only phone plans.

Not sure if Vodafone is like Telstra/Optus who kick up a stink if you use a mobile sim in a wifi hotspot.

    • I'm with Kogan (Voda network) and often set up my phone as a hotspot, no issues so far. Granted, I only use ~10GB a month doing so.

      • Just becuase Kogan uses the same network doesn't mean the rules are the same.

Technically under Vodafone's fair use policy using these plans in a modem/mobile broadband device isn't allowed.

"using a SIM sold for one purpose for a different purpose, for example using a 'mobile voice' SIM in a non 'mobile voice' device"

    • Optus has never kicked up a stink with me …have voice Sim in modem and data pooled.

      • Probably because you're not on an endless data plan. Most Plans with a fixed allowance they couldn't care less.

Optus only offered them for a limited time to a select group of customers.

Telstra offers endless data plans but clearly states - "Peace of Mind Data is for personal use in a smartphone or tablet in Australia only, isn’t shareable, and the FairPlay Policy applies. "

50 gb is NOT a huge amount

    • -1

      for you

      • -3

        For anyone.

It's actually 60GB not 50GB at normal speed and then throttled back to "unlimited" after that which is more than plenty for MANY people who actually use phones for that social interaction called 'talking' and a bit of data for other tasks.

  • Unlimited*

    • Glad you caught it…

"endless data*" = *capped at 60gb

lol @ the parlous state of aussie broadband and mobile

  • People here are complaining about the 60gb limit before throttling to 1.5mbps. When I was recently in the US I got the T-mobile unlimited data plan. It has a 2gb data limit before being throttled to 2g speeds (probably something like 500kbps).

    • That is my current ADSL speed…..

      • 1.5 Mbps = 0.1875 MB/s

Most ADSL lines get about 8 Mbps = 1 MB/s

        • 5Mbps ~ 500kb/s is what I am getting MAX

Before you pull the trigger on Vodafone. Consider the below options…. I did read the comments above about Telstra / Optus kicking a stink however, hasnt happened to me yet.

    • Good comparison

    • User name of Dud??? You certainly disproven that with the 1st two links. Kudos to you!

Telstra & Optus getting competitive! Who would have thought.

As for the 2nd two, they sure look impressive although are data only and no talk or text so not quite 'same fruit' comparison :)

    • If Telstra $49 per month with 60GB data with POM, is considered as "Post-paid mobile plans", then it will fall under plans that can swap sim. https://www.telstra.com.au/support/category/mobiles-tablets/…

Edit: Re-reading again, maybe OK to swap sim into another mobile phone. But still not OK to put the sim into $G modem or router

      • I have the $39 per month plan with POM.

Pulled the SIM out of my iPhone and into a wifi modem, worked a treat.

  • -deleted. pressed wrong link -

  • Many mobile flat rate plans appear a speed fixed 1500 kbps cap. About where they all start out from, in last year's positions.

    ADSL1 brought as much.

Would be good to see a nowadays average video resolution 1080p free to stream accordingly. CIR to 6000+kbps or at least a bencmark survey to test present VF v Telstra flat rate optionality.

Netflix a good quality takes 6960 kbps and 6350 kbps (59.940 and 23.976 fps), down to YT 3774 kbps. SD really is outmoded, for my 2c.
