Pablo and Rustys "Porter St" Coffee Beans 2x 250gm Bags (500gm Total) $12 Delivered @ Pablo & Rustys

770
ENJOYPANDR

I bought the Breville Barista Express machine from the HN deal recently and it came with 2 months supply (2kg) worth of beans delivered from Pablo and Rustys.

In my second month delivery i got a coupon code for:
50% off your next three deliveries

Cheapest coffee is the Porter St variety (pretty decent and better than supermarket beans) which i've been getting delivered and roasted freshly (only a day or two old when delivered).

it's normally $24 for 2 bags of 250gm beans (or grounds if you prefer) and you can choose if you want it weekly, monthly or fortnightly and cancel at any time.
So in theory you could cancel after 1, 2 or 3 orders.

Code looks to be generic.

Great stuff - works on Office delivery too, so 1kg Porter st is $19

  • Is the code only valid for the subscription order?

    • Yeah but you can cancel the subscription any time

  • Thanks OP. After all comments including my own yesterday from the Lavazza post, it's enjoyable to try a new small/boutique coffee brand roasted freshly @ a pretty decent price.

    This blend isn't bad

  • Their single origin is nice as well

  • +2

Can confirm this works for all subs - managed to snag 3x 1kg Single Origin Espresso for $22.50/month delivered.

    • How?

      • +1

Office Subscriptions - 1kg single origin - apply code and checkout.

        • How do you drink your coffee with the single origin? Just Black or with milk as well?

Just wondering if the single origin is suitable with milk as I enjoy the Porter St but wouldnt mind trying single origin.

  • Great price and great timing. I was just searching through coffee deals on OzB as I'm running low. Thanks OP.

  • Thanks OP. Ordered, $6 per -250g better than my Beanhunter subscription.

  • +1

I feel the 50% discount here makes delivered coffee beans the best deal on ozb in the past year or so.
The blends are decent moreso than manna after jamocha disappeared off their specials (and blend recipe changed and isn't as great after the change), and cheaper at ~$21/kg vs 35/kg.
The single origins are pretty damn decent as well at a close price point where they are normally 40/kg+ for a decent Ethiopian or Costa Rica bean from other suppliers.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks OP! placed an order for single origin.

Would you know if this discount applies for one order or it applies to subscription?

  • "The discount code is no longer available"

    Reckon the promo is over.

    • +3

Or more likely it was targeted and they were getting more orders than they expected.

    • +2

I just ordered now (7:47pm QLD) and it was still very much available for me

I have been using their 50% off codes to subscribe the past few months and can certainly vouch for Pablo & Rusty's. Good coffee (Porter St and Trailblazer), good value for money, delivery is always on time, coffee delivered is within 3-4 days of roast date which is printed on resealable packaging, individual packages are packed in a carton to prevent damage and excellent flexible online subscription options.

  • Thanks op.
I’m sticking with the porter st. The amount of coffee I go through can’t justify spending up.

  • Code worked for me - it required an email address. Charge was $24, - $12 (when code was entered) making the total checkout price charged = $12 (just done a few minutes ago).

  • Exdellent deal, I've been buying there beans for the past 3 months with 50% off vouchers. Already very freshly.roasted beans. Despite being a bit more expensive, I by far prefer their single origins over their blends

  • Got my beans from the promo as well but I can’t get a decent extraction. What grind setting do you use for these beans?

    • +1

Try a grind 6 and dose at 1 o'clock, single basket, don't over tamp.
I find a double shot is easier to get consistent results but have a lot of trouble with singles

      • Haven’t tried the single basket yet. Will give it a shot, cheers

I’ve been trying grind size 3-5 with 18g in the double. I think 18g is the perfect dose, I just can’t get the tamp right I guess. Pressure is always almost maxed out and coffee has been bitter a few times

        • go a touch lower on temperature

        • How do you measure 18g? Scale? What is that on the dose dial? (Assuming you use the barista express)

18g for a single cup is a double shot so it could very well be a little bitter even if the extraction is right

          • @edrift: Yep I weigh the beans before I put them in the hopper. I found 18g has been the perfect amount for other beans on grind settings 4-5, it usually takes 25-30 seconds from the moment I press the double shot button to it stops pouring. I just can’t get my tamp right. It’s almost always maxing out to get 30 seconds but if I tamp lighter it’ll pour a lot quicker.

With the porter st I tried 18g this morning with grind setting 6. It took 23 seconds total from button press and tasted nice.

I always use the double basket, I’ve read the single one is too hard to get the correct dose.

And yep I use the barista express

            • @johnnytran: I have the perfect setting to make a one cup double shot with these beans.

              Grind 3
Dose one Click to the left (11 o'clock position)
              Double filter basket
              Double filter grind selected
              Tamp medium pressure
              Press the double shot button

              • @edrift: I have Porter St beans and also Barista Express machine.
I use Grind 3, dose just above 3 o clock, around 2:45,Double filter basket
                Double filter grind selected
Tamp high pressure, Press the double shot button

                • @shoelover: is that for a single cup or a double cup?

my settings were double shot for a single cup.
I'd think you'd be using significantly more beans than me and it must be pretty intense!

                  • @edrift: Interesting! Same machine and same porter bean I use grind 8, dose 3 o'clock, single filter basket, tamp hard and single shot.
                    Perfect cup every time.

                    • +1

@monkp: Yeah I used to use those exact settings before. Then after speaking to a few people they told me you can go way way lower on the dose of you increase the grind.
The coffee tastes the same, but you are saving a lot of beans.

Give the 11 o'clock and grind 3 a go for a double shot single cup

                      • @edrift: Caffeine content will not be the same me thinks

                    • @monkp: GRIND 8???????!! WOW!

                  • @edrift: double shot single cup

      • When you say dose at 1 o'clock, what does that mean? Also I find the coffee flow gets blocked below 8 for me, would I need less coffee in the basket?

        • +1

If you look at the dose dial like a clock, 1 o'clock is one click towards the right from straight up vertical.

Grind 8 is quite coarse so if it's getting blocked you need to reduce the dose (what's the current setting you use?) And/or tamp less firmly.

          • @edrift: Thank you. I've had it a little while but still learning to use it right. It's the Breville dose control one, mine doesn't have a marker on the dial. How many seconds is one o'clock?

            • +1

@ladybug1: Oh no idea about the second.
Mine doesn't have numbers on the dial just clicks when you turn it and has black lines.
Just imagine it was a clock and you turn it to different hours.

            • @ladybug1: Try the settings I posted just a post or two up

Just placed an order and it went through.

  • +1

I just placed and order for the 1kg of the Porter beans (under the office menu item) and it went through at $19 delivered.

  • FYI, for those of you that don't go through that many beans a month or if you are going away, with the subscription, you can log into your account and "skip" the next order. Just confirmed via online chat.

  • How is the taste difference between Trailblazer vs Single Origin? I like Porter but love to try out something sweater.

    • *sweeter XD

  • What do people think of these blends after tasting them.

Received mine on Tuesday, roast date was Friday the 25th.so they filled orders quickly ( 2 x 250gr. Porter Street ).

Ground n tasted some next day, aroma was rich and bold just smelling the beans and even more after grinding.

My usual short espresso using a large almost double basket with around 13gr coffee and adding a touch of sugar was dark and rich with hues of toffee and chocolate. As I really like a change and mix my brands/blends up occasionally, I like it and happy with this blend for a change, but I really do prefer more a medium/lighter roast to this for espresso/black coffee as this blend is suited for adding milk to stay rich.

Just makes me realise what good value Aldi coffee beans are ( when you get fresh bags of beans and grind yourself ), and even brands like grinders and republic organic when half price or good sale.

    • Does Aldi sell 'fresh' beans? What brand? All I've seen are the ones that have an expiry date and no roast date.

I normally get Toby's Estate Wollomoloo, so this is great value if it's good.

      • When I said fresh beans from Aldi ( or different brand from other shops ) I meant with a long expiry date and with Aldi that would mean it was roasted within the last month, or two, and the way bags are sealed up these days, that is reasonable for a few months for the average coffee lover ( probably not for the hardest to please or pure enthusiasts out there ).

As Aldi has high turn over for their beans, rarely will you find really old bags ( unlike some brands in different supermarkets/shops, so need to check dates on shelf first ).

I personally find once you open a new bag, it is really important to seal up and double bag the remainder of contents for your next grinding session.

I am fussy about coffee and try to only drink decent well quality made well and with love, but I am not anal about it as that takes up too much time and money for a little gain for my experience.

        • +1

thanks for the explanation. I think $6 for 250 grams is a great price for fresh beans and I'll probably stick with them if they're good. Will try aldi if I don't. Do you recommend any particular brand? I know Aldi sell a few.

          • @jtb: By all means, try the Porter St coffee as they are fresh quality beans ( or pre-ground ) and at this price delivered for 2 x 250gr bags represent great value.

The regular always stocked Aldi coffee I ( and most of the other comments here ) I am referring to is the Aldi Lazzio coffee which comes in medium and dark roast. It is currently priced at$11.50 for 1kg of beans, but can buy 1/2 kg already ground also.

If you grind/use/store this coffee well, you should get a decent cup of coffee from it.

Don't be swayed by the price, go by your taste. The medium is more suited to espresso/black coffee, where the dark for some is better suited to milk based coffees, again you choose and go by your taste.

  • This is excellent value, thanks OP. Received the Porter St blend last week - great rich flavours with lots of crema! The 50% off applies to future deliveries as well. Very flexible options to manage subscriptions. They charge on Tuesdays, so expect deliveries either Thurs or Fri which is perfect for weekends.

    • "they charge on Tuesday" do they charge or roast? Or charge your account on same day they roast lol?

      • +1

I think you figured out what I was saying!

  • Is this a once off 50% or does it apply to future deliveries (how many)? Trying to figure out if I should cancel the subscription or not!

    • This code applies to 3 deliveries.

Account > Manage Subscriptions. If a discount is applied to your next order it will show. If not, there will be an option to apply a discount code.

You may edit and change your order for each future delivery if you wish, just make sure to reapply the code if necessary.
