  • Could you fit one of these as a replacement tap DIY. I am far from handy.

    • Was wondering the same thing

Buy a tap spanner set about 10 bucks and it's super easy if you already have a mixer. I'm not the handiest either but took about 15 minutes for me

      • Ok. Looks like I have a weekend project then. Off to Bunnings tomorrow. Wife will be happy if I can do it as shes been complaining about the leaking tap.

        • If you already have a flick mixer, the cartridges are just over $12

          • @Steptoe: Are they standard. I have this large pull out spray type one, but the mixer part is like a lever you turn left or right. How would I know what cartridge to get got it.

            • @Melb69: Take the old one out. It will be one of the 4 in my link above.

              • @Steptoe: @Steptoe Owe you one. 2 trips to Bunnings. As usual for me. first time was just to go down there and ask one of the handy plumbing section guys what I might need to do to fix the dripping. He said definitely I shouldn't need a new tap and it should be a cartridge and some tips on how to get the existing one out. Went home got it out and then back to Bunnings again. Seems to have fixed it. We did notice that the pull out sprayhead seems to hold excess water in it and that drips more afterwards for a bit. Drained out the excess water and no dripping.

                • @Melb69: Correction. It now might be the actual pull out head. Dam. Its leaking at the top of the screw head seal.

        • See guidedlight's comment below. This mixer doesn't need a spanner kit. Very easy DIY job. Only tip would be to not overtighten the hoses.

      • Wish I saw this post before I replaced mine with a normal wrench + tears

    • I'm not very handy and I think these can be a pain to install.

Depends on how easy the access is as well though.

  • I have this tap, it’s great.

The only negative is that it tightens by hand with a large plastic nut, rather than with a tap spanner. It was quite difficult to get my hand below the tap to tighten… not much space between the sink and the wall.

But it’s done now, and it has stayed nice and tight.

Other than that, it’s an easy DIY job.

    • I found the plastic twist style to be much less hassle than the tap spanner. But yes, if your tap is right against the wall then it would be fiddly regardless.

  • Just a reminder for those who are going to install it themselves. First make sure you know how to turn off water supply for both cold and hot water before trying. I couldn't find the tap to turn off hot water for kitchen sink so I will be relying on a professional

Shut off the main valve at the meter and bleed out the pressure, both hot and cold

      • And put a tray to catch any water that drips under the basin. Last thing you want is to have to deal with water in the cabinet.

      • Unfortunately that might also mean my gas heater will turn off. From what I have heard, it's takes considerable effort to re flame it and turn it back on :(

        • Maybe you should look to install an isolating valve (same type as the toilet cistern) that way you can service kitchen taps without even turning off the mains water.

          • @t25: Yeah. I have these on mine. Easy. Turn hot and cold off with the stop cock and do the work you need and just turn it back on.

Still at least 5 of these at Moorabbing Bunnings
