Still using my iPad mini 2 and it’s a fantastic side device for couch internet, movies (and mobile games if that’s your thing)… exaggerated hate is not necessary and I’m honestly surprised that uninformed comments like this still exist.

      • I don't understand or care to learn the apple ecosystem (old dog, new tricks kinda thing) - but I will say, their iPads are great. My daughter still has her iPad Mini 1 from 2014 and finds it pretty quick still. No way I'd be able to say the same thing about a 2014 android tablet.

So this actually looks like a bargain to me and if my daughters Mini 1 and your Mini 2 are anything to go by, this will have many good years ahead of it.

I still prefer my Androids coz I understand them :)

EDIT: Whoops didn't notice I was replying to an old comment.

    • last i checked, a Typewriter had physical keys required to operate. a desktop would be 'about' one up from a typewriter.

    • You must have a really good typewriter

    • +74

      At least $300.

      • +3

Shut up and take my upvote.

    • +11

      $579

    Thanks for posting.

This iPad is bit outdated since it was released about 3 years ago?

    It could be laggy.

    • Lucky you aren't playing Counterstrike or competitive MOBA on it.

        • +11

          people read SMH tech section?

        • Well the iPad Pro is

        • -3

sure he got paid by apple and got a free trip to silicon valley but hes a writer and cant be bought out

LOL. No writers can ever be bought out can they - journalists are always completely 100 honest and opaque.
The fact that you've realised he's got endorsed heavily by Apple but still can't be bought out is a bit concerning..

Let me pop your bubble: sensationalist articles aren't always correct.

    • +2

      It’s better then my 32gb mini 1

      • +8

Well sure, it looks like your spell checker is broken for a start.

      • +1

Yeah the mini 1 > mini 2 was a huge upgrade.

    • +9

I use an iPad Mini 2… I don’t see any lag for any of the apps that I run. If anything it runs faster than when I bought it 5 years ago since the latest iOS update. I assume that given my 2 is perfectly good, that the 4 is much faster again anyway.

      • +1

Yeah same I have a 16GB mini 2 cellular and it’s still the ultimate lightweight travel device for books and movies and maps etc, only two things hurt it, no Touch ID (fixed with the 4) and 16GB is pretty claustrophobic (128GB would be heaps)

    • +8

It's an iOS device, not Android. She'll be right for a few years yet.

  • apple online/store is still selling for $579 => https://www.apple.com/au/shop/buy-ipad/ipad-mini-4

  • +1

It’s a great machine to play Minecraft

  • +2

    Isn't this is a 4 year-old model? Expect a new one soon…

    • +1

Yep. There are already case leaks happening.

      • -4

        I don't think $120 off a 4 year old model is a bargain.

        • +8
          • -3

@spaceflight: That's based on the rip off price, not the usual price.

            • +6

@D6C1: How much do Apple usually sell them for?

              • +8

@muncan: I think it's $3.99 for the granny Smith's at the moment in my local woolies

          • @spaceflight: Beg your pardon sir, only crazy people buy from Apple.

            • @[Deactivated]: So you don’t think $148 off is a bargain either?

              • @Eeples: If i were to sell you brand new iPhone 6s or galaxy s6 for 50%off rrp, around $500. Would you consider that a bargain?

How about a 4 year old TV or original xbox/ps4?

                Sorry in selected stores only.

                • +2

@[Deactivated]: I have both the 6 plus and the Mini4 and I would not recommend the phone, at this time, but I would certainly recommend the iPad mini4. Particularly if people want them for travelling on public transport etc. they are a very convenient size and still compatible with the latest iOS.

                • @[Deactivated]: A iPhone 6s 32gb+ for $500. Oz stock. New.

                  Or better yet $399 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/429301

Yes, I would consider that a bargain.

The performance/feature difference between a 6s and later model iPhones is certainly not worth paying an extra $500-$900 for imo. So a $500 6s is a bargain, ($399 even more so)

Tv’s not so much as the tech has changed heaps. And you can’t really buy an old tv new.

Don’t know about Xbox and ps4 and galaxies.

Apple products pricing has always skewed the meaning of bargain.

        • +1

for apple, 5 bucks off a 4 year items is a bargain!

        • +1

When you sell it you'll probably get the purchase price back.

          • @gadget: If you sell it before ipad mini 5 is announced, maybe.

If it is after, highly unlikely. I know u think it is the second latest gen. But 4 year gap will introduce huge difference in spec, performance, features. Consider the difference between ipad air gen 1 and the latest ipad.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yeah, but I've been waiting for the Ipad mini5 for quite sometime. I may be wrong but I think the boat has sailed on the Mini5. If they produced a Pro version, minus the button, this would be a really good size tablet.

              • @try2bhelpful: Actually 8 inch is not a popular size, hence the lack of update and why Apple made 12 inch pro.

Ironic, because Steve Jobs said that ipad was the right size. After he died, due to android pressure tim cook made mini.

                • @[Deactivated]: I prefer the smaller size because it fits well in my bag and doesn't take up so much room when you are using it. The problem is the current bezel is very signficant given the screen size. I think there is a market out there for the mini5 full screen, but I don't think it will happen now.

                • @[Deactivated]: Steve Jobs also said the 4 inch iPhone 4 was the right size and that Apple wouldn’t be building a larger one. He was wrong

      • +1

        Is that a headphone socket?

  • +2

    actually good price

  • Could be great for kids BYOD classes!

Unfortunately, the ipad is not even listed on Target's website. Pretty hard to get a price match.

    • -1

Could be great for kids BYOD classes!

Many schools exclude the ipad mini.

      • lucky we don't have that problem

      • +3

That's discrimination against small statured tablets.

        • +1

More to do with software compatibility.

          • +3

@jv: That's not very inclusive. They should be tolerant of software differences, not exclude them because they don't fit the stereo typical software norms.

My kids will be going with the relaunched C64's.

            • +1

              @[Deactivated]:

My kids will be going with the relaunched C64's.

              What's wrong with slide rules?

          • @jv: Is this accurate? What apps do not run on the mini (I ask because I don’t recall encountering any).

    • The size of the screen doesn't make this an effective BYOD device, and any available keyboard case is going to be hard going for all but the tiniest hands.

I would strongly recommend spending an extra $50 or so and getting your child a Chromebook with a minimum screen size of 11".

  • +8

Still rocking the ipad air 2, good investment compared to the rest of the ecosystem!

    • +1

Yeah, ours gets used daily. Awesome device, no need to upgrade yet.

      • +2

It wouldn’t be an upgrade either. The Mini 4 is a slightly less powerful tablet compared to the Air 2.

        • The air 2 has started to show its age unfortunately. I would like to upgrade, but unfortunately the current iPads are very expensive. Browsing is unfortunately the worse aspect of the tablet now, switching between tabs usually leads to reloads.

    • I probably should open mine……

    • Yes me too. It's been one of the best purchases I've made in hindsight. I think it hit the sweet-spot!

I bought the cellular version with the max storage 128gb at the time and have no regrets. I could probably sell it for a decent amount but it's still used daily so no need.

      • +1

My only regret was cheaping out on the 16GB version. That got painful fast. But not painful enough to stop me still using it this much later.

  • Is this a specific store?

    • Yes, Target

      • +5

Yes, that's what I'm aiming at

        • Straight to the point.

  • Great price, there are some eBay auctions going over $300 for the same model!

  • Just bought a second-hand iPad mini 2 to use with my Mavic pro. I'm sure the 4 would be better but it is also twice what I paid for the mini 2.

  • +2

Decent price. $284.05 if you purchase with 5% discounted egift card. Further $27.18 reduction if you can claim TRS; just add a $1 item to make total purchase amount $300 from Target to claim TRS.

    • Wouldn't you want to bring it back into Australia though?

I think it's only useful for genuine tourists.

      • +5

As a member of OzBargain since 2010, surely you know that TRS is also available to Australian Residents. Your duty-free threshold when you come back into the country is currently $900 per person.

  • which store in NSW stock Ipad?

    • -5

      Target

    • +1

I rang around the Sydney metro stores and none in stock and havent been for quite a few months

  • -1

    it looks so dated now

  • +3

Great price for a good machine. Would work well for surfing, mail, games, etc.

  • +2

I've had an ipad mini 2 for over 5 years and that thing has been through the ringer. Been dropped so much that the backlight is starting to bleed. The screen is still intact and scratch free. Still does everything we need it to. For web browsing, e-mail, YouTube etc. these ipad's do the job just fine.

  • Called up Fountain Gate and Chadstone stores. Both said they "have not stocked Apple iPad products for a long long time as our contracts finished with Apple". They both stated they only have a Samsung tablet, or a cheaper no name brand.

What store is this from? Or can someone recommend a store in the South East suburbs of Vic

    • Just called the Glen store too. Same story, "havent stocked apple ipads for a while"

    • +1

I got the same when asking about the iPhone deal.

  • Can't find a single store in NSW that sells them, being told they stopped stocking Apple products since April….?

    • Same happened to me but then I went in store to see some on the shelf

      • Which store and which product?

    • Same here… rang most the stores around Sydney and all no longer sell Apple anything

    • +1

Same for most Targets in South Eastern Melbourne. No stock…

  • Purchased the last one in Rockhampton QLD - thanks OP!

  • iPad mini 4's are great devices, certainly not fast but perfect for youtube, netflix etc.

  • Thanks so much just picked up in from target Reynella been looking for one for my sons birthday.

    • Did Reynella have any left ?

      • +2

They did might want to ring first and get them to put one aside for you.
