[VIC] Polar Crate - Foldable Cooler $24.99 @ Catch (Pop up Shop, Chadstone)

20

Handy foldable cooler crate to keep in car. 39litres. Should keep things cold for a few hours without ice. Great for those trips from Costco to home with icecream. The Catch site has it for $29.95 not including postage. If you get a chance worth a look in store as some items less than as listed online.

Big W also have a similar one for $29. 38L.

A lot still in store at moment. To the front left and at rear on right.

That price us online, but if you go to Chadstone Vic pop up shop the price is $24.99. Was where Toys R Us was located. Lots of other items there as well. Kitchen ware, shoes, etc. Similar to online stock, but obviously less items due to available showroom space.

Polystyrene collapsible box v Esky with cold bricks put in it??

Every shed/garage in Australia should have an Esky. Spend a little more and get a proper cooler. You'll have it for decades and it'll serve you well. This polystyrene box won't.

I get that this thing is collapsible… but seriously, just more junk in the boot when you can get insulated shopping bags that'll do the same job.

Yes am old ESKi would do a slightly better job, but it takes up a lot of space in a boot. I was looking for a cooler to keep in the car for those time when I want to get food, but not have to go home straight away. As its foldable it doesn't take as much space. A lot better than insulated bags. Reasonable size.

      • Fair enough.

  • Nothing says classy like a Catch pop up store hey Chadstone?

    • I can see why they put it there as its a large space to fill. In that odd shops area. Not in the main fashion section. Hence why its only temp as your right cant see it bringing in the customers that Chaddy really want to see. But there is the Reject shop, so similar.

Funny thing is most people just walk around looking at stuff, I have been twice and never see anyone walking out with Catch shopping bags

  • These a Youtube guy who reviews all kinds of random "as seen on TV junk" His review of this style cooler was it's okay vs an esky.

I'm sure I've seen then in el cheapo shops for $20

    • Probably cheaper, but best I could find as I was going to get one from Catch online, but with postage it was going to be $38. Happened to see the pop up store and it was cheaper.

  • Big W has this for $29

Edit: looks like this is a different brand (but probably serve the same purpose).

    • Got to love the OZBs. At least I still paid less. Yeah would be similar. slightly smaller.

    Had one and please avoid….

    THIS NO BARGIN!

They are useless, read the reviews….

For $25 worth a try for my purposes. What were your issues with it. Its not like a traditional eski. Seems ok for a handy cooler to keep in car.

      • +1

Not sure why you got negged. Did they disagree with your purposes?

I have one and think it's great. Pretty convenient when going between houses over Christmas + New Years and sharing food around (a.k.a grabbing take away).
I did test how long a block of ice would last without melting in a 28 degree room. Not long. Half melted ice within a rectangular take away container in about 3 hours. Good enough to have in the car boot.

  • For those that have one already- Is it actually waterproof? I'm curious on the design if it is

    • +1

It will leak as not fully sealed on edges due to design. I was going to line it if I used ice or the like in it.

  • I love how they call it 'iceless' which all Theyre really saying is if you put ice in it it will leak.

  • When we are shopping we grab an insulated bag and put an ice brick in it. Seems to work fairly well. This crate would probably be if you want a rigid structure.

Latest Rays catelogue has the similar cooler crate chill chest for $59.99. So the Catch instore or big w online version the best on these for those interested.

For those interested in this item. Used it on a day trip 12hours with a few eski ice blocks. I did line the bottom of the crate to ensure no leaking. By end of the day the cans were still cold, but not amazingly cold. So works ok, but probably not as good as an Eki. Good for my purposes though for the price.
