    • Some Toyota dealerships suck. Hard. But there are good ones too (generally regional ones).

  • What's the normal price?

    • +3

Toyota is overpriced generally speaking, not good for OzBargainers :)

      • I'm waiting for the unlimited years, 5km warranty deal

  • Nissan to follow suit in 3..2..1..

  • +1

You missed 7 years on engine and drivetrain and also a 60 day money back guarantee.

  • -8

no deal just info put on toyota site

  • -3

Well it's finally happened, Toyota, the market leader, has extended their warranties

You know I love you, Spack, but I would say Kia is the market leader in automotive warranties. 7 years, unlimited kms. If Toyota announced this then it could be mistaken as a bargain.

In this case I believe this is merely a PSA for the forums.

BTW why would TA, our market leader, upvote this deal. He should know better.

  • -1

So if I buy 5 cars, I get 25 years of warranty? This is an amazing deal if it works this way. Gonna go out and buy 5 now.

    • Yes, but the only problem is, you have to buy them consecutively…

    • +3

That's bs. Euro's depreciate in value like crazy compared to Jap cars and have a lot more problems. Jap cars are also sell a lot quicker.

      • Not sure why the negs, we have 3 Euro cars and 2 Jap at home and have owned many Japs, definitely a lot better, sell quicker and cheaper servicing.

    • +1

High yield investment joke obviously lost on some of us :)

    • +1

      Euros still a better investment…

Lol… Do you work for Westpac by any chance?

      • Nah, just heard about it on here. Figured it was great investment advice but don't have the money until I save up a bit more.

  • -2

Toyota "get you" by making you over-service your car within 6 months regardless of km's travelled (or this warranty is void).
Mazda requires a service every 12 months.

    • +12

      Username checks out.

      • Hahaha! =) Made my day!

    • +1

You do realise that Toyota has switched to 12 month servicing for new gen models released in the last couple of years?

      • 2018 Kluger picking up today, service due every 6 months. Camry purchased 2 years ago requires service every 9 months however dealer had been putting 6 months on reminder sticker and sending reminder emails at 6 months until I complained and showed them the log book.

        • +1

As I said, new gen models. Current shape Kluger was released in 2014. A Camry purchased 2 years ago was a 50 series, first released late 2011.

      • I've owned since new a 2016 Toyota with 6 month / 10,000km service intervals.

        • He did state 'new gen'. Kluger not new gen, and your Camry was the old Aussie made model.

          CHR/Camry/Corolla - whole new models, 12m servicing.

      • Had a RAV4 2015 had to service every 6 months to keep the three year warranty and I drive no more than 3000 km each time. Although was service cap but not impressed

    • As above, Toyota has gone to 12m/15,000km intervals for CHR/Camry/Corolla

      Mazda is at 12m/10,000km intervals

Always nice advertising 12m intervals, when you don't look at the kms ;)

      • -1

Why my 2018 Corolla still 6 months?

        • Because you bought the old shape?

          • @spackbace: What is “old shapes" ?

            • @zhen: As in, not the all new model that was released in 2018.

              • @spackbace: But you said it started two years ago.

"That trend started about 2yrs ago when the CHR came out. Only diesels needing 6m intervals, but every new model petrol coming out is coming with 12m intervals (so far)"

                • @zhen: Yep, and I said every new model. Your Corolla isn't a 'new' model.

                  • @spackbace: What was a 'new' model two years ago?

                    • @zhen: I did say, and you quoted:

That trend started about 2yrs ago when the CHR came out

                      CHR (2017)
Then new Camry (early 2018/late 2017)
                      Then new Corolla (mid 2018)

      • Has anything changed in the car's specification/engine that allowed the extended interval form 6 months to 12 months?

        • No idea

        • Maybe all of them have Synthetic Oil as the standard being used on the cars

          • @Gorian4: This + more.
Engine oil has come a long way and their durability and performance are getting better day by day.

Vehicle components and other consumables improving their quality and durability as well.

However, vehicles that are used strenuously might need more frequent services.

    • The warranty does not set out the service intervals. All it says is.

You must operate, maintain and care for your Toyota properly, in accordance with the instructions in your vehicle’s Owner’s
Manual and Warranty and Service book

    • Newer cars are 12 months.

6 months actually gets you newer oil than you would get in the back half of a 12 month service.

It's disappointing that the 'market leader' took so long. Toyota is a follower, not a leader anymore. If it wasn't for what the Koreans were doing, Toyota would still be resting on their laurels…

A -ve as this is not really a bargain more a PSA. Perhaps more suited for the forums?

    • +2

Obviously because If Hyundai was the market leader, Toyota would have started this earlier. I don't think Toyota is the one to blame because most likely their cars are more reliable than Hyundai and this offer is just a PR campaign.

      • +1

Hyundai and Toyota are probably on par in terms of reliability and have been for a number of years. Hyundai has stated they no longer use Japanese brands as development benchmarks and now look to the Europeans for refinement. Having said that, if Toyota's reliability is so great, why did they not stand behind their vehicles and wear the badge proudly by providing such a warranty earlier?

Besides, my -ve vote is not due to brand preference or bias; I just feel that this is not a bargain or deal, but a PSA. This is now a standard offer from Toyota going forward.

        • Not sure where the reliability part you're getting it from but my mechanics say it otherwise. Anyways, all good. Everyone possesses his/her own opinion.

    • It's disappointing that the 'market leader' took so long. Toyota is a follower, not a leader anymore. If it wasn't for what the Koreans were doing, Toyota would still be resting on their laurels…

It's not the Koreans. The Koreans have been doing 5 yr / 7 yr since forever, and Toyota didn't budge. Neither did the rest of Japan. What caused them to switch was when the Euros started moving to 5 yr. If the Euros were still on 3 yr, so would all the Japanese.

      • In fact, this is not the case either. ACCC is investigating Holden till 2020 for their practices and asked them to get their practices in line with ACL. Ford got penalized 10 Millian Dollars for their practices and was asked to honour transmission failures under warranty.
In a nutshell, it's ACL getting enforced by government agencies and the manufacturers are getting spooked by that.

There was a delay since the mother company where it resides does not have an ACL equivalent and Toyota Motor Corporation Australia is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation Japan.

It is a bit sad that it took 8 years to get this far as ACL was there since 2011, it wasn't effectively enforced until lately.

        • So does ACL consider the expected lifetime of a 20k+ car to be only 5 years?

          • @lostn: Nope, what is "reasonable" is interpreted on a case by case basis, but 5 years is a guideline. Even after 5 years, ACL can be enforced to protect consumer interests where applicable. That is why your warranty service booklet says ACL rights may exceed the factory warranty entitlements.

ACL does not predict the lifetime of a product, it simply gives you a guarantee and a peace of mind to enjoy a product that is fit for purpose and without manufacturing defects, and when that is not the case, ACL kicks in to protect consumer rights.

            • @KMeister: Sounds very vague. Would be a headache for the ACL people to have to have to evaluate every claim case by case.

              • @lostn:

Would be a headache for the ACL people to have to have to evaluate every claim case by case.

The ACCC doesn't deal with individual cases.

              • @lostn: Yes, you're right, it is vague. ACL is the umbrella law covering all warranties on any product that you buy in Australia, not just cars.
ACL is the law by its own definition, and it can be enforced by many agencies. ACCC investigates companies and their practices in whole, legal institutions enforce them (Courts, Fair Trading, VCAT, NCAT, QCAT etc..).

  • Free shipping with it? :P

You might want to make the source of your quote more visible.

You've given a quote and linked the deal to the Toyota website.

I do not think that Toyota would appreciate being quoted as saying

Market leader Toyota has finally bowed to public pressure and will boost warranty coverage from three years to five on every new model sold from January 1, 2019.

  • We are picking up a new car today which we ordered back in December, do you think they will include this offer.

If not is it worth forfeiting deposit to get it?

    • It's from delivery date, so you're all good with the new warranty :)

    • +3

      Purchased from Jan 1st, 2019

Well you better change the title then. Love TB

    • From the terms and conditions

Your Toyota Warranty Advantage period begins on the day your new vehicle is registered by your Toyota Dealer and you take delivery of the vehicle.

I don't know what that means because they could both happen on different days

      • They'll be within the same month though :)

        • The conditions don't mention anything about the month though.

          I assume the conditions mean

Your Toyota Warranty Advantage period begins on either the day your new vehicle is registered by your Toyota Dealer or you take delivery of the vehicle, whichever occurs last.

But the way they are currently written if your vehicle is registered on a different day to when you collect it the warranty does not apply because the warranty applies from "the day" that both of those things occur.

          • +1

@spaceflight: I was just referring to the internal systems. When a vehicle is put into a customer's name with Toyota is the day it's registered, generally speaking, which has to happen in the same month as delivery.

The warranty will start on delivery date. The only clarification needed is for those who bought last year, but aren't taking delivery till this year. For those people, they'll get the new warranty as they're not taking delivery till after the new system came in.

Everything else is just arguing semantics. 5yr warranty if you take delivery after Jan 1st 2019. Simples

The issue with this is you normally have to get it serviced at Toyota interval which is 6 months or every 5-10k km I believe?

Becomes quite a hassle with corporate cars.

They do make very good cars though.

    • You must operate, maintain and care for your Toyota properly, in accordance with the instructions in your vehicle’s Owner’s
Manual and Warranty and Service book

So it depends on your car and its required service intervals

    • +1

New gen releases (C-HR, 70 series Camry, 210 series Corolla) are now 12 month/15K intervals.

  • Now that they've caught up on the 5 year warranty, when will they offer android auto/carplay? Mazda, VW, Subaru, Hyundai, Kia, Audi, Ford, BMW etc… already offer it.

    • +1

Not standard for Mazda. Only some of the larger SUVs come with it. Mazda3 still uses MZD Connect, and they're offering as $500 upgrade.

    • Mazda will always have their own media system. Closed systems makes money. Android doesn't. One of those screens is costly

  • +1

I just purchased the brand new Kia Cerato BD MY19 Sports+ standard 7yr warranty with this guy !

    • +2

I'm confused. Which guy did you purchase this from?

    • A heck of a lot of car for the dollars

      • Lol half asleep I meant as In that's the deal I got with the car !

As in I got 7yr warranty with the Kia :)

      • @matt P guessing you've seen one ? The BD MY19 is alot different to the standard YD Model!

I love all the safety features the car has ! Miles better than the Holden Cruze which I held onto for way to long

  • +1

The Hiace van looks so old and crappy compared to some of the others on the market.

    • Current HiAce was introduced 2005. Toyota love to drag the life out of commercial vehicles. 70 series LandCruiser is into its 35th year, lol.

    • It won't be around much longer judging by rumours on the internet

      • Australians can be such sheep.

"Oh its Toyata and i see lots of them, ill go buy the worst, unsafest, oldest van on the market"

  • +1

VW also announced that they are increasing manufacturers warranty from 3 to 5 years… can someone post that as a deal?

  • Saying Toyota is a “market leader” is like saying McDonalds is the market leader in takeaway coffee? Quantity doesn’t mean jack.

Apart from sales, what technologies are they currently a leader in?

Since this 5 year warranty is standard and accessible to everyone, it is neither a bargain or a deal and just a public announcement which belongs in the forums.

While not absolutely comparable to other vehicle manufacturers, their comparable competition, who is often cross-shopped with Toyota, offers superior warranties and has done for a while.

    • Hybrid?

I can't see any mainstream top 10 manufacturers that are going full fledged with hybrid compared to them.

They are still behind the 8 ball in many areas but I give it to them on hybrid. To have hybrid as a topic around drinks is the first for me 2 months back.

      • They are definitely pioneers in Australia with hybrid techonology, I will give them that. But several other manufacturers have also embraced this tech, although admittedly they are more expensive.

I think from a sheer volume level (referring to hybrid and electric), Toyota is the winner. But are they still the 'market leader?'

Here is a list of current and soon to be releases offerings: https://www.drivezero.com.au/cars/electric-vehicles-availabl…

  • Guess it will increase the resale value of Used Toyota Cars between 3 and 5 years of age. Thoughts?

    • I thought about it. Nope

  • Dam i just got one last month

    • Call their customer service line, be friendly but be clear that you'd like this added to your car.

    • Spackbace is a valued member and the effort truly is appreciated, but it seems this gives you special privileges. What does this say about OzBargain?

      • Not denying that spackbace is a great contributer and a valued member of the ozbargain family but I've been around long enough to know when a bargain is listed and a PSA is made.

      • It says to take your tin foil hat off.

This deal will remain on the front page for a few hours until it is eventually (after a thorough and extensive review by the mods) moved to the forums. By that time the post will have hundreds of comments and people will know about the new 7 year warranty. Unpaid advertising for a non-deal.

Should Toyota eventually support Apple Carplay or Android Auto will there be another 'deal' advising us of this?
