(PC) Free - What Remains of Edith Finch (Was $23.99) @ Epic Games

3210

From the same store that gave away Subnautica and Super Meat Boy for free comes the next free game (announced).

The current cheapest price for this game is $23.99 through GOG (Steam is $28.95).

What Remains of Edith Finch is a walking simulator from developer Giant Sparrow that came out in 2017. It features the titular Edith Finch as she walks through her family’s home and encounters their stories that you play through. What Remains of Edith Finch was praised for its inventive and mechanically infused storytelling that told a heart-wrenching tale of one unlucky family. It originally came out on Steam and PS4 in April 2017 only to come to Xbox One three months later.

Note - this game is free from January 10 and available till January 25.

You can still get Super Meat Boy for free till January 10.

I don't have a PC but just came here to say, this is an amazing game!

    • I concur. Fantastic story and atmosphere.

Absolute tear jerker - amazing game.

  • I played this on the Xbox One last year, well worth a play through. It has some unique gameplay styles in each scene and a really good story to match.

Been on my wishlist and nearly bought it the other day!
Will def have to get it

  • +3

God damn it. Another launcher it is!

    • +2

Won't know for sure regarding this one until 10th obviously, but it's worth noting that for Subnautica atleast that the launcher wasn't actually needed. Could run the game straight from the .exe drm-free just like a GoG title. :D

      • +2

That's weird considering they patched Subnautica to have always online DRM on the Epic launcher a few days ago…

        • +1

Oh really? Well that sucks then. I hadn't played it in a good week or two.
          =(

@Stoibs: There's a way around it in the shortcut properties adding

            -vrmode None -EpicPortal

to the end of the shortcut target should fix it.

            Still, scummy move from Epic

      • oh nvm I read that wrong

I like the way Epic are giving away some very solid titles. They may not be super current (I'm looking at you Supper Meet Boi) but they are really excellent games.

  • This was on my wishlist for ages, waiting for it to hit the right price. I guess it has now! :)

  • As other have said it's a really great game.

  • +6

Wow, Epic are really pushing hard to get people to install their launcher. And you know what, good on 'em. Steam needs some competition.

Hopefully Epic jump on board with IsThereAnyDeal so it's easy to compare prices too.

Was nearly going to buy this yesterday during the Steam sale. Had it in my cart but removed it just before going through with the purchase. Good timing.

I believe this is PC only with no Mac version available yet. Would love to be proven wrong though.

Let's get some recommendations going for similar games. are my favourite. I'll start

    -Firewatch
    -Life is strange

    • are they free too though?

      • +2

Life is Strange has the entirety of Chapter 1 free (a good three hours or so of gameplay), with the remaining 4 chapters for a total of ~$30. One of my favourite games, highly recommend it.

    • +5

Both of these are amazing. Love Life is Strange especially. I’d add:

      • Oxenfree
      • Captain Spirit (free)
      • Gone Home
      • SOMA (not for the faint-hearted)
      • Stanley Parable
      • Life is Strange 2

        thanks for the recs!!

  • thanks op

Bought this in the GOG sales the other day and still not got round to playing it yet.

    • LOL…
Guessing you're not a steam customer. Most of us have games from a decade ago, we haven't played yet.

  • +1

Not yet. "Coming soon" I guess it starts tomorrow. US time being a day behind.

    • Doh. Setting reminder for tomorrow instead.

  • +1
    • I noticed that too. Maybe it's the 10th in USA land so we have to wait until tomorrow.

  • +2

    Active now!

  • Have got one!

  • Can't get the launcher to add the game to my library. The store now shows it as 'owned' but my library is empty. Anyone else having this problem? Can't seem to find anything on the epic website about this problem.

    • It's showing up in my library and the store gives the option of installing the game. Could you try restarting the launcher or signing out and back in?

      • +1

Ah figured it out, needs a 64-bit os, was trying to run it on my old windows 7 32-bit machine. I had to create a new account for it to tell me that.

  • +2

OP says its available on Mac - but launcher says Windows? Can someone explain if/how this can be obtained on the Mac? Cheers

  • Windows only, no Mac.

    • See my comment above

  • +2

    Not Steam.

  • Just wondering, would this run on my surface pro with only integrated graphics if I wind down all the options? Or will it simply refuse to run?

    • I think it would. I ran Rise of the Tomb Raider on a i5 SP3. Ran like molasses though. It's only a 2.5gb download though.

I'm having a shocker tonight. Getting confused with the deals.
