  • Pity it doesn't mention compatibility mac

    • It works fine on a Mac

    • What flight sims do you use on mac

      • +1

X-Plane 11. Any joystick will work fine on a Mac.

  • +1

Flight sims were big in the late 90s but there isn't many games out there nowadays.

What new games would you recommend to use this?

    • +5

Two big space sim's are Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous :)

    • +1

Elite Dangerous would probably be the most obvious non-flight-simulator choice

      • +1

Star Citizen looks awesome. I remember seeing the trailer a while back. Apparently it's created by the same guy who made Wing Commander….. good o times!

        • +20

Star Citizen isn't a real game, it's a money pit and scam that's been fleeching gamers out of money since 2011 by a bunch of conmen.

To the downvoters: I would be salty too if I had dropped thousands of my cash on a scam and refuse to acknowledge that it will never, ever be a real product - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Citizen#Controversy

          • +1

@c0balt: Looks pretty much to be on the way to being a real product to me. They have an flyable alpha (3.4 currently). Sure it is taking a long time to release, but I still think it will eventually.
It seems cool these days to be on the "It's a scam" angle for Star Citizen but AAA titles take time and I am happy to wait.

            • +3

@OzViper: Swear I've read that exact same comment 5+ years ago (apart from the version number of the buggy unoptimized alpha).

I hope you haven't sunk too much cash into it - sounds like Stockholm syndrome.

              • -1

@c0balt: Nah no money in for me. I will buy/subscribe or whatever when it gets released. I am just looking forward to what a good game it could eventually be.

            • @OzViper: Since 2011?

            • +2

@OzViper: On the way? 7 years in and 200+ million USD later, the "game" is barely a tech demo in a pre-alpha state at best with still nothing to do, while being glitchy as hell since 3.0 and 27,000+ bugs unfixed since I last checked. Right now it is still little more than a screenshot maker.

I visit the sub reddit now and then and all you see are screenshots (because of very little gameplay/content) and still ALOT of theorycrafting bs on non existant mechanics 7 years in by both the devs and their backers. Seriously wtf.. they should be nailing down everything by now… and these guys still give these incompetent clowns money. Add in the questionable marketing practices and constant reworking of stuff and continuous delays of real gameplay mechanics (because they have no idea how to code them), this thing would be lucky to come out by 2030.

Don't get me started on SQ42, a game they were supposed to be working on all this time which was supposed to be nearly done and come out in 2015 or 2016, but suddently years later is now barely 30% complete going by the roadmap they finally released last month. Yet now they promise it will be out 2020.. it'll be out by then right Chris? (and Erin).. wait they meant a beta by 2020 lol! I used to say it might release in 2020 way back in 2016 and people laughed at me… who's laughing now? Except it still wont even be out 2020… so it's just another year another BS roadmap full of lies like the ones they release each year, all in order to keep the scam going of course.

Don't believe the hype on this game it's 100% scam and will never come out. I haven't even gone into the P2W shit either lol thats another can of worms…

          • +3

@c0balt: It takes the hat economy to a whole other level .
Even when/If it's finished , It reeks of pay to win . Spend 10K (total guess) on some ridiculous deathstar and pulverize everyone . Obviously way beyond my comprehension .

            • @troyww: Yes I am not sure what the game will be like when it's finally released but I think I paid $40 dollars years ago I am sure I will get my money out of it eventually there is a single player campaign as well and the stuff they show of that a while ago looked promising but i am not holding my breath.

              • @woodfox: Meh $40 . You obviously don't care . Buy a deathstar , Go balls deep and really commit .
I get the early adopter excitement but years later the whole campaign became an enormous piss take .

          • +3

@c0balt: With the money they raised, they could have created a real Death Star… Or a movie on the lines of Interstellar…

          • @c0balt: call of duty is just reskinning, minor upgrading and creating new game mechanics and maps, done staggered by 2 studios so they can churn out games nearly every year or two

but if you look at every other AAA title that put decent effort building from the ground u. 6+ year dev time isnt unheard of

    • +2

I've been using it for DCS and XPlane 11, works well but looking to upgrade. The pedal is great too.

      • Why are you looking to upgrade it?

        • +2

I need more hat switches and better button placement on the joystick for DCS.

      • I'm looking to get the Logitech X56 (Logitech branded has grey around the base instead of the gaudy Saitek blue).

        Which pedals are you using?

        • +1

Same brand - Thrustmaster Flight Pedals. It connects to the throttle in this set.

I read that ever since Logitech bought over Saitek the QC has suffered so it's a bit of a hit and miss. Thrustmaster is still more reliable in that regard. Looking at getting the Warthog or custom sticks. It's a big dark rabbit hole.

          • @raptormesh: From my reading its the other way around - when MadCatz were the owners of Saitek there were issues. Only have an extreme pro 3D atm so not like I can offer any actual experience though… looking to buy X56 too.

    • +1

I've never played it but I know War Thunder is one of the bigger recent games.

    • Maybe upcoming Ace Combat 7.

      • +1

It's a stretch to call Ace Combat a flight simulator.

    • +2

There are still heaps of plane and spaceship games.
Of course gun, sword and car games have a bigger audience so are more visible.

A joystick is only really useful for plane/space sim.

However the throttle control is very useful even in FPS mouse games. Use it in left hand instead of keyboard.
There is a mini 2 axis analogue joystick under index finger which is better than keyboard WASD, 6 buttons, 3x hats with a total of 14 buttons, analogue 1 axis rudder bar, analogue zoom wheel and the throttle axis itself.
Very powerful and puts a lot of control directly under one hand.

    • +1

They're still big - X-Plane 11 and Lockheed-Martin's Prepar3d are the two biggest names in civilian flight sims now and both are incredible.

    • Good for No Man's Sky :p

    • +1

What new games would you recommend to use this?

depends on what you want, for WW2, the iL-2 series is still going strong:

      https://il2sturmovik.com/

for jets, DCS is about to release their F-14 add-on

      https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/modules/tomca…

  • +1

    X-Plane 11, without a doubt.

  • +2

Thrust Master X HOTAS is less than half the price.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Thrustmaster-T-Flight-Hotas-PC-PS3…

    • +1

That has less than a third of available switches, but a great entry level hotas. Own both.

    • +3

The T16000M is widely regarded as being the best in it's class, there's a reason thrustmaster make that model so cheap - it's not as good.

  • Do they work on PS4 and xbox etc

    • No sorry only works on PC

  • Thanks, time to replace my old logitech g940 which is showing it's age.
Might try to convert the pedals to USB

  • +1

Reminds me of the days of playing X wing and Tie Fighter on PC. They don't make games like they used to.

    • Yeah same for me. Those were the golden days.

  • Oh…when I saw Thrustmaster I thought this was something else.

    Nevermind!

    • What else could you possible think of?

      • +1

Was hoping to sort out Valentine's Day for the missus early

        • aliexpress.com has "toys" that um…."vibrate" for less than $30

    • +3

I am disappointed to not see more thrust-master comments. OzB has let me down.

      • Don't worry, I'll be your Thrustmaster

  • I've got this piece of crap. Its pretty good.

  • I don't have this joystick, but I remember reading somewhere that it is supposed to have some issues with one of it's axis or centering.

Would love to get a VKB Gladiator myself, but looks like there is no local option, and buying from overseas is expensive AF……..

    • Really? I've only ever heard positive things about this stick.

      • yeah, some reddit thread mentioned about when I googled "vkb gladiator vs Thrustmaster T16000M"

        https://www.reddit.com/r/hotas/comments/7fe3ch/vkb_gladiator…

but as mentioned in that thread, the VKB ain't perfect either.

googling "Thrustmaster T16000M issues" did came back with some hits, but nothing too massive.

  • any ace combat fans here? :D

    • never played it myself, but are interested in the up and coming game, TBH I don't really have the time (or the attention span lol) to spend on mastering a "real" sim anymore, just give me some quick action :)

    • Is this stick confirmed to be compatible with ace combat 7?

      EDIT- YES is it compatible.

Found a canadian reddit thread that also linked to this deal that has some good information if your not sure if you should buy it or not-

      https://www.reddit.com/r/bapcsalescanada/comments/a91ycr/joy…

      • its not compatible …

  • Too bad they don't have force feedback.

  • Thanks for the post, I had to upgrade my Extreme 3D Pro which I reckon I've used once and has been sitting in box. I wanted something newer and better sitting in a box, this looks great.

  • Price is showing as $339.00 now…
