Not quite as cheap as some of the bigger rescue places like RSPCA, but the Cheltenham Cat Rescue is a small volunteer-run foster group that operates around the Melbourne area, and they are hoping to open their own shelter sometime in 2019.
From the website:
"HALF PRICE ADULT ADOPTIONS!
We at CCR are big advocates of adopting adult cats. Although you might miss out on their crazy kitty antics, there are plenty of advantages in recruiting a more mature furry family member. For one, you know exactly who you're getting in terms of personality. They're also going to be extra loving and grateful toward you, because in a lot of cases they know what it's like not to have a home. You really are saving their lives, and they know it. Plus, they're far less likely to destroy your furniture and curtains and carpets and…well, your whole house, really!
So to kick start the year off in a furry kind of way, we thought we'd run a special on our adult cats. Between January 1st and 31st, you can take home your new best friend for just $80!"
Unless it's the 4 year old boy I recently adopted. He has destroyed the plaster work on the banister over my stairs and liberally uses the carpet as a scratching post (yes he has straching posts all over the house, he uses them too).
