  • How much data included?

    • 30Gb data if you choose prepaid mobile plan and first recharge by 5 Feb 2019,

      • +2

Meaning $5 does not get you 30GB of data as we need to recharge by 5 Feb 2019?

        • +2

No - activate it on Prepaid Max by the 5th of February and you'll have 30GB available (8GB of regular data and an additional 22GB of bonus data in the data bank)

  • Do these have long expiry like 365days etc?

    • 186 days for $30

      • +7

Only if you activate on the Long Life Plus plan. You'll then have $30 credit to use over those 6 months. If you switch to Prepaid Max, you can then convert the $30 into 4GB of data to use over those 6 months, so not bad value for someone with low data usage.

        • +2

But if you switch to Prepaid max won't your credit run out after a month?

          • +3

@jdogg: No - expiry dates never go backwards with Telstra prepaid.

  • Where do you get those taken stamps from?

    • +2

Security guy will stamp it when you way out

    • +3

      Vista print

  • +1

    10 bucks Northlands, Vic

    • +2

Should be $5 when you scan it

  • +3

No limit on these by the way. Bloke at Elizabeth St said take as many as you want, I did what was necessary.

    • did u actually leave any ????

      • +2

Of course, they had a surplus

    • I did what was necessary

Sounds a little dark. Did you just club a zombie to death to survive the apocalypse?

  • +9

I missed those google play credit on these starter pack! Good old days!

  • +1

Thanks OP. The JB I went to was advertising for $10, but when scanned it was $5 each.

Can we have a better receipt, with logo etc so can price match at office works thanks

  • Can we have a better receipt, with logo etc so can price match at office works thanks

  • +1

This would've been a great deal if you could still use the credit on Google Play.

    • are there any sim cards that allow for this? or is there a way to benefit from these sim cards besides using them in an ipad/mobile etc.

  • Thanks OP, Malaga WA out of stock, went to Belmont who have about 15 on shelf

  • +1

Sorry, basic question here, I am new to the whole sim-swapping business.

If I buy a dozen of these and activate the first one by Feb 5, I get 30 gig of data.
But then, 30 days later, can I just activate another one and get another 30 days (but at 8 gig)?
And can I just keep going month on month and effectively get 8 gig a month on Telstra for $5 a month until August 2020?

And final question… if that is the case, do I keep my existing number?

    Thanks in advance.

    • +2

I keep a stockpile of a bunch of starter packs with included value from a range of carriers (all picked up cheap of course) then just port from carrier to carrier each month.

So to answer your question, You would need to port to another carrier at least temporarily and then back into Telstra if you wanted to keep your number. You cant just use these as recharges.

      • To ask a newbie question, can these sims be used as a access point in a Telstra Wifi modem/dongle thingie?

        • Yes, of course.

      • Thanks, that's perfect. So if i have an even number of these and say Optus 30 day cards, i could just zip back and forth every 30 days.
        Cheers.

        • +1

From what I can tell, 30 days might not be enough for some carriers (if you keep your number). I'm not sure about Telstra and Optus specifically though.

Same Expire date on mine, 24 Aug 2020. Grab 6 from Hornsby, more than 10 left at 9:00AM. No labels show it has discount, even salesperson said the price is $30, but scanned $5 at check out. Only ozbargainers knows.

  • Broadway Sydney store only selling 1 per customer and saying it has to be activated by February, though expiry date on back is in 2020.

    • +1

That is not true. I re-checked the telstra sim kit & receipt, unlike Optus, it do not mention it need to be activate within 30 days. Even on the telstra website, it does not mention.

By the way, even Optus/catch connect mentions the sim card from them should be activate within 30 days, I found I still be able to activate it after several months.

    • +2

You need to activate the sim before the 05 Feb 2019 on their $30 prepaid plan to have 30g of data.
Who knows if Telstra will continue giving 22g of bonus data after 05 Feb 2019.
Normally their $30 prepaid plan only gives you 8g of data.

    • Went to JB Hi Fi DFO (Homebush) and they also said one per customer!

  • Damn, I just got 2 from Coles last week at $10. Might take a trip to JB later on and get more.

  • I grabbed 2, heaps left at Sydney CBD Strand Arcade … 20 at least …cheers OP

  • thanks grabbed 3 at forest hill

  • None at Claremont Quarters WA :(
Might have to go for a drive later today to hunt for some.

    • I grabbed 2 from Coles and activated them in JB without any issues. Tried using JB $10 voucher from adding digital receipt but got declined by cashier, paid by discounted Ultimate Teens GCs in the end.

      • What a great tip. I will do that if the next shop doesn't have any left.

      • I grabbed 2 from Coles and activated them in JB without any issues.

        What does this even mean?

        • When my local JB get new stock, I will grab 2 and put back onto the rack in Coles:)

          • +1

@Neoika: So in other words, you stole two SIM starter kits from Coles and paid for them at JB Hi-Fi? Aren't they usually locked up at the cigarettes counter or something?

            • @kerfuffle: Coles have them outside on display, as they have 'No value' until purchased. He took something with no value how bad could that be? Lol.

              • @imcold: They have value to the retailer when they have to count them for stocktake. It's like gift cards with no value loaded on them until they get activated; they have value to the retailer as to them, that's stock they have to count, so yeah, it can be construed as bad

                • @kerfuffle: Optus holds all title and risk to all Sim cards as described in the Optus pps retailer agreement. Authorised sellers will get a commission based on sales price ie the $5 X the commission rate.

Coles may loose sales if the run out of Sims but that is a loss for Optus.

I wouldn't do it myself, the best I would do is misplace a Sim card so one would be Avaliable when there was a special.

              • +1

@imcold: There's no getting around the fact that it's theft. You can't just walk out of a store with something, whether or not you think it has any value. And then there's what happened at JB. Do you know what sort of agreement there is behind this deal? What if each store was only allocated a limited quantity to sell at that price? Obtaining the deal through deception is also against the law.

Should be able to get free afl streaming from these as well.

    • good call! didnt think of that…i'll save them for afl season

  • Checked from Ocean Keys JB Hi-Fi in WA, they didn't have any 30$ starters in stock nor they hadn't heard of the deal either. Bummer.
