These are bluetooth but I can't imagine needing to use the bluetooth that often once it's set up, so needing to be close to the unit for bluetooth range couldn't be that much of an issue, or is it?

    • Bluetooth would be handy to delay watering due to rain. Most watering systems at this price do not have moisture sensors.

from basic law maintenance to caring for delicate flower beds..

Wow.. Your own backyard law enforcement…

It's worth the price and cheaper than a backyard lawyer should the law be broken

My neighbour is a lawyer. I might get one later today and see if I can water them. Will post back.

Reviews aren't great. Was considering using them with Home Assistant but no point if they don't work…

How secure are these? Wouldn't want Russian hackers to get access to it.

    • They won't probably but Chinese may hack. Now days they are leader in hacking.

  • Should I buy two instead to save few more bucks?

    • Maybe connect one to your shower?

    • No.

Let me share my recent experience and save you a lot of time and frustration. Do not buy these!
I installed 6 only to find 2 would not reliably shut off on schedule and wasted heaps of water whilst I was overseas. But I thought just unlucky, gave Holman the benefit of the doubt and replaced the two found locked on, only to see another start out of schedule before my eyes when another zone finished it's test program. Then I found I could not switch that one off with the app, until I went to manual and hit start! Absolute rubbish. You have been warned!
Also when installed they are quite restrictive as you can only (a) pair to 1 bluetooth phone at a time, so you can only have one phone/operator of your tap; (b) you can't manually water without your phone since there is no override;(c) the manual indicates you will lose your phone pairing when the 9V battery needs changing (d) remember it's Bluetooth and not WiFi, so these solenoids can only be programmed within about 10m of your phone or tablet. Not from work or the lounge (e) when manually watering, say for 30 mins, after starting it asks you to update the valve program with an 'update' red flash prompt. But when you update, it shuts the valve off returns it to Auto. Tested that on diff valves so appears to be a software bug. Just annoying as they should have seen that clearly in testing, manual override being fairly important you would think of a tap valve.

I'm all for new technology and hoped these would be a nice convenience. In the end I was very grateful for Bunnings' no hassle return policy…

So I replaced my $340 investment (3 x Holman BTX1 twin packs @$110ea) with 2x Pope Aquazone Trio Tap Timers @$94.80ea for an unforeseen saving of approx 45% per zone if you like.

    No phone needed
Has manual override and run time,
simple onscreen programming, actually quite intuitive, advances to each input like days, zone, start time, run time, etc.
This Pope controller is actually cheaper too at $31.80/zone than even this posts' single BTX1 deal (assuming you do need 3 zones and programs) but cost was never my issue. There are probably other slightly cheaper programmable timers I know, but so far I'm happy with the Pope Trios so sharing the love.

Savings in my outlay are however going towards my next excessive water usage invoice 😫😈👹 courtesy of BTX1 rubbish!

    • Pope Aquazone Trio Tap Timer looks perfect for me…

    • I would second that. Have been running perfect for an few months. Just remember to change batteries every 2 months, otherwise one zone randomly is skipped. I am in need of an upgrade to fourth zone any suggestions?

  • Here are your electronic timer options from Bunnings in ascending price order:

Out of these these single Holman's
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/holman-automatic-digital-tap-tim…
would be my choice (unlike their bluetooth BTX1's!) and these have actually been good at my work for around last 4 years. The cheaper Aqua Systems version looks similar, but are possibly a Bunnings noname? brand I am guessing, so I would spring for the extra $16 for the Holeman if you need only one extra zone.
