    kogan share priced,,,, tanked :-(

it's not smart. no fancy OS on board and built-in apps like youtube, netflix, bla..bla..

        • +5

It’s funny you took that personally.

          • -7

@[Deactivated]: But I didn't, I'm intrigued why people want to pay hundreds or thousands more for a TV in their home with a terrible UI to force intrusive advertising and report viewing habits back to the manufacturer.

            • +6

@bm: What are you doing online then? Time to log off if that’s how you feel.

            • +1

@bm: Maybe people find it convenient? Weird that some people don't agree with your opinion.

              • -5

@devize: Based on the neg votes, >90% of OzB users want to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to watch advertisements customized to them on hardware that'll be in landfill in under 5 years, then to repeat the whole cycle.

I'm obviously the minority not wanting to be spammed with any ads while looking for bargains.

                • +1

@bm: What ads? My smart TV doesn't show any ads.

        • +13

It's just a term floating around the internet, relax.

Having sold TVs for a long time… I prefer a dumb TV with a chromecast…

No useless vendor specific apps that get removed down the track anyway, no slow or janky UIs.

    • +1

So you'd recommend this over the alternative that's like 449 or something but is a smart tv?

      • +10

100% dude. The cheaper smart TVs are aggravating to say the least. Incredibly slow load times, broken firmware, useless bloatware.
A Chromecast will do everything you need, and in a decent way (casting to the Chromecast can turn on the TV and change the channel etc) and loads way faster.

        • Ok cool. I have a regular v2 chromecast I got forever ago for like $19 so I'll buy this tv and finally use it.
          Thanks :)

@Originality: Agree, a lot of the software is really slow on some Kogan TV's. I've got a 55" KALED55MU8010SZ and though originally I only bought it for the 6 star energy rating I thought that having Freeview would also be cool. I've had it for a couple of months now and really happy with the TV in general and the price I got at the time, but the load times, browsing and ad breaks on Freeview on this tv is really crap. Have tried a reload of the software also. No biggie tho as I said I'm happy with the TV and the media box I set up myself to compliment it. You'll probably also need a soundbar or some sort of external speakers tho, depending on your audio preferences.

            • @LikeMike: Thanks.
I got the Kogan 2.1 Detachable Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer set with the TV which came to something like $95.20
So I am hoping it does the job

    • +3

Nothing beats NUC behind the TV with wireless Keyboard

  • Anyone know of a good soundbar to go with this tv thats Ozbargain friendly (Cheap)?

    • +1

This one is on sale with a good discount.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/427791

      • Does it make any sense to spend nearly $400 on a high-spec soundbar for a TV you bought for just over $400?

        • That's up to you.

If buying a cheap TV + sound bar + chromecast/fire/fetch is cheaper than an expensive smart TV then it makes sense.

    • +1

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/427510
Use promo code PRIZE to bring it down to $178.2.

      • At that price though, better buy Sony 55 deal for 700+ yesterday

    • I got my soundbar from Cash Converters for dirt cheap. Cashies don't do any good deals with their TV's but many have great prices for sound bars or external speaker setups.

  • +1

    dumb tv…sounds cheap 😎

  • +18

It can be slightly cheaper to buy this from their eBay store depending on where you want it shipped.

    On kogan.com:

    Kogan 50" 4K HDR LED TV (Series 8 JU8100): $389
    Delivery to [my postcode]: $53.27
    Total: $442.27

    On ebay.com.au:

    Kogan 50" 4K HDR LED TV (Series 8 JU8100): $435.68
    Postage: $47.61
    Voucher/coupon PRIZE: -$43.57
    Total: $439.72

Now I need to decide where to spend my extra $2.55.

      Tough choice dude, choose wisely.

      Hungry jacks icecream.

    • The 'edit' button doesn't seem to be coming up for some reason, but if you're making a new account on Kogan, the $5 referral credit makes that the better price.

      • Once people reply to your comment you can no longer edit it.

    • Don't forget cashre… oh wait…

  • NO more Kogan discount vouchers?

  • Is it free shipping with Shipster?

  • $77 shipping? No thanks. That sucks :( I was keen on a Kogan TV.

    • +1

Yeah, $77 is hard to swallow. $38.90 [Sydney] for me which seems fair for a large item like this.

Reviews indicate that this model might be suffering from motherboard issues.. Worth the risk? Or is it better to purchase the sony 4k tv from the recent deal?

    • +1

      Link to motherboard issue reviews?

  • +2

epic deal. bought one to swap over for my 40". hdr 4k will looks tits in rdr2

  • is a connection with about 8 MB/s download speed enough to stream 4K content?

    • +23

This TV doesn't have an Android OS. I'll call a taxi for you, mate, you've had enough.

    • +1

Do you have a link to the 50 inch iPhone?

    • +14

Nono, it's the other way around. You are supposed to be smart, the tv is dumb.

    • +1

The kogan tv I have takes less that 30 seconds to get into the netflix menu from standby, it's not that bad + i'm sure these tvs accept hdr signals but their peak brightness aren't high enough for proper hdr

  • I don't mind Kogan, have bought a number of items, but it pays to be a little cautious. Is it just me or is this particular deal/item a bit like paying someone to slap you around?

I got one a few weeks ago. I have a 5 year old Samsung 60inch led tv in the loungroom and wanted a cheap tv for my room. Picture and colour look great to me, better than my Samsung. However small complaint middle top of tv near the bezel I can see some light bleed. Not noticeable if it's full screen movie but with movie with black bars at top and bottom can slightly see it. Cbf returning though as wasn't expecting amazing tv for the price. From my experience I feel fast to start up and find my connected hard drive. Only use it to watch movies, might add a Nvidia shield soon. I'd say worth $389…got mine in the last free ship deal. Oh tv speakers are crap but I got that cheap kogan sound bar too which I'm super happy with, sub not required in my room.

Do you have a ps4 or something hooked up to it? Just curious on any input lag

whats the best way to search for 'dumb TV' while looking for a non-smart TV on shopping websites?

  • I wonder what this would be like for the office just for the Xbox one X.

  • Can I use it as a monitor?

    • Only if your PC output (HDMI) can drive 4K and at how many frames per second. If you have a card better than GTX960 you should be okay.

  • +1

How is this different from one sold at Target.

    • Or the Aldi one?

      • Haven't seen the aldi ones sporting hdr?

    • +1

Which one at target or aldi are you guys talking about? Do you have a link?

    • Fake HDR in the Kogan, no HDR at all in the Target one? Just guessing, I'd need a link to the Target one

  • +1

Is this TV any good for gaming? Looking for a cheap TV for the kids to play their XB1 on.

  • How long will it last?

    • +1

The manufacturer warranty is for one year, so my guess is it will last 366 days.

  • waiting for the free shipping

  • +1

For those who got the TV, what are your thoughts after purchasing it?

  • Anyone knows what brands OEM factory does Kogan cooperate with?

    • Konka, Canca and Luxdisplay, are some OEMs they have used.

      • +1

Thanks, Konka is a famous brand in China, it's nice.
