These are great units…replaced the factory unit in our MY18 WRX.

Got one of these 6 months ago and well worth the money. If you're hunting for a double din go for it. The 720p might not sound like much but AFAIK it's still the highest display res of any head unit around (at least in this price range).

It has 3x 5.0v pre-outs if anyone is wondering - great for use with amps.

  • Excellent price. New models due in the next month or 2, so they'll be wanting to offload the 2018 model stock.

  • What's a ballpark cost to get one of these installed?

    • Considered DIY? What car? Year/make/model/variant info please.

      • I had one of these, dual cams with battery backup and a new aerial (a day's work) installed by "getinstalled" for $800 in a 2001 Monaro. Did a good job, very happy. Look him up on Facebook if you're in Victoria and he comes to you. These will be runout as you have to connect with cable to Android or apple carplay instead of the newer ones with Bluetooth. There's a workaround, but you need to be a little tech savvy.

Not Bluetooth - WiFi for wireless Car Play/Auto.

      $200 for a new fascia
$100 Reversing Camera adaptor (with 12v->6v transformer)
      $80 Steering Wheel Control Adapter
      $20 Antenna adaptor
      $20 Kenwood to ISO adapter
$20 "Your car" to ISO adapter

$150 labour from "Your fav auto shop"

      So about $600 for installation.

Play around here and google search the adaptors it picks for your car to get prices

      • $80 Steering Wheel Control Adapter

Keep in mind that this is not required if fitting into a Japanese/Korean (except Dogpoo) vehicle. Kenwood has built-in OEM SWC ability.

  • Thanks for sharing. I also noticed there is a sale on this Alpine unit - https://www.autobarn.com.au/me24404

I can't decide which to go for. Alpine unit is cheaper and Alpine is a better brand, but the Kenwood has slightly more features.

    • Also this looks good. Can't decide:

      https://www.autobarn.com.au/me26398

    • The alpine one has capacitive touch screen and should be better to use. I have last year's Kenwood and it's working great till now and only wished the screen was capacitive sometimes .

      • +1

? The 9018 is capacitive as well. Same with the 9017, 9016. You must have a povo pack model.

        • Probably.now that i think about it I paid around 700 for my unit over a year back so it might be a cheaper version.

  • Is it easy enough to DIY? I see theres one in stock locally and I have been wanting to upgrade the Mitsubishi MMCS in my ZJ Outlander.

    • Start by having a look here. If you have a factory camera/screen, you'll need a camera retention kit. ISO plugs are available to suit the 9018 end and vehicle plug side. Mostly plug and play with the ISOs, but there might be one or two wires (usually reverse and park brake) that will still need to be soldered in.

      edit: Kenwood ISO here.

9018 has built-in OEM steering wheel control capability, will need soldering in also, diagram here.

  • Just to confirm, these are not the "wide" 200mm versions for toyota, right?

    • +1

Correct. 200mm is DDX918WS. 10mm ears are available for this 9018 to fit the 200mm space.

I've been considering getting a Sony XAVAX5000 for 470 to replace my broken Ford radio with stock speakers. What would realistically be gained by spending 350 more on this unit? Does it at least support multi-touch on maps for example?

  • Does this have the wireless android auto?

    • +1

      No, wired only

    • 2019 models due Jan/Feb, good chance they'll have wireless ACP/AA.
