  • replacement buses do not have Opal card reader

The ones I've seen have Opal card reader, but they are closed.

    • They are disabled. I have updated above post.

    • Depends on the buses. Some buses come from outside sources like coaches, etc.

Can L Platter drive a FREE BUS ?.

Why is this considered a bargain?

  • It will be a bargain if its during weekdays, but on sunday its only $2.70 unlimited travel bus train and ferry

    • also it may be free but it takes a lot longer than usual…

  • I'm reasonably sure you still need to have your Opal card with you.

I do not believe that they check your opal card. Transport NSW would pay the bus company to run X number of services to cover the affected routes, the bus companies would only need to report on the buses, times they ran and number of passengers.

The buses are mostly run private companies that don't have opal facilities. No point collecting fares on some buses and not others.

Constance would regard this as 'theft'…. just like what he is planning on doing with the airport gates.

    • It's called complimentary.

    • It's not theft if it says it's free on Opal's website:

If the replacement bus is not Opal enabled, simply show your Opal card to the driver when boarding and no fare will be charged for that trip.

Not a bargain, time it take on bus is so much longer, time equals money.

    • Not in the North. If you live slightly past Chatswood, a bus to Chatswood and then straight to Wynyard can be as fast as the train.

      • Maybe if you get lucky. Anytime I’ve taken it around the usual 9-5 hours on the weekend there are big queues and not as many services, let alone it being the holidays.

  • Any free food in the city to complement the free ride.

    Always free.
