  • I bought the EX400 for my mom from Clive Peeters (referred from OzB last year) at $600. So this is overall a pretty good deal. However, be warned that the Sony tuner is pretty slow, and doesn't show a giant preview of all the channels.

    • When you say the tuner is slow, do you mean really slow to change channels? I've noticed this on a family member's Sony and wondering if all Sonys are like that?

      • +2

I have the EX400 as well, yes, to change channels is pretty slow. Don't know about other Sonys. Also, make sure to update the firmware.

        • I have the EX400 and haven't found changing channels that slow - but I'm using a Logitech remote and ensuring it hits enter after the channel number.

  • Nice price:)

  • BDS370 is $165 from a few retailers…All in all A great deal though

  • +8

What an awesome price for someone starting out (wanting a new Tv and blu-ray player!)

    • Yep, great starter pack :)

    • +9

LOL, why for someone starting out/starter pack? Many would be happy with 32" whether or not starting out. Why does everybody think they need the latest 55" 3D LED to be happy in life.

      • +3

Wait. You won't be happy with a 55" LED TV? Gimme one and I'll smile till my jaw hurts. Dunno why my jaw would hurt. Cheeks, I guess. I dunno. Looks it's raining.

        • Wait. You won't be happy with a 55" LED TV?

Think you need to read his comment again.

      • you're right that not everyone needs a 55" LED TV but the fact is at some point in time you would want to upgrade to a bigger or/and more technologically advanced TV.

Someone who is well versed in HT would be going for other options with more features and components, I think that is what they were trying to say. ALthough of course budget is the concern here!

        • +1

the fact is at some point in time you would want to upgrade to a bigger or/and more technologically advanced TV

Not really. I lead a very fulfilling and happy life with my 32" 50Hz CCFL-backlit LCD believe it or not. The only way I would consider upgrading to a 55" 3D LED would be if they were under $600, but even then I would wait a few more years until I get more usage out of the 32" that I just bought last year.

At the moment my parents are using a Dell 23" LCD monitor (that I got for under $100 from Dell Swarm) + a $40 HD set top box for their main TV. They were using an ~24" analogue 4:3 aspect ratio CRT TV before that so it's an upgrade for them and they are rapped.

        • +1

I didn't mean to specify 55" 3D LED but I'm just saying that at $600 pricepoint you may be able to get a better/larger TV + peripherals and then you might think of upgrading.

Hell I had a 52" Panny RPTV(SD) till 2010 but after watching some awesome dvds upscaled, even I bought a 40" LED. Now I don't even touch the 52" TV considering I did downgrade the size. But bluray awesomeness is something I can't let go plus the fact I can now game on a 40" screen

I doubt "many" would be happy with only a 32" TV as their main TV… this is definitely a 'starter pack'. I'm not being all high and mighty, but most people looking for a new TV today are looking at 42"+… and a small TV like this is really only good for the 2nd TV or one for a bedroom.

        • +4

Well I for one am very happy. For my small unit the 32" is perfect size. It doesn't look small at all in my flat. A few years ago 32" would have been considered huge, lol.

a small TV like this is really only good for the 2nd TV or one for a bedroom.

          Really?

  • Has anyone come across stock anywhere? In Melbourne?

  • Anyone know what functions/formats the USB input supports?

    • Apparently most videos, including .mkv and .avi

      • Nope, no MKV. AVI and MP4 only. That said it can play 720p MP4 files.

        • For the Blu Ray player? I thought I read it could play .mkv, my bad.

        • +1

the bluray player can play mkv, avi and mp4. Have tested all of them
MP4 and 3GP might cause some problems.

TV itself is not very format friendly even with AVI(accepts divx but not xvid!)

        • +1

Sorry, forgot that there was a bluray player bundled. I was just talking about the TV. And yes the TV isnt the most format frendly as mentioned by spawnpoint.

        • Sorry, I was referring to the TV's USB input.
Didn't realise the Blu Ray player also has a USB plug.

Out of stock in Canberra City and the lady said all other stores in Canberra were out of stock too.

Gees…the deal is so cheap …so tempted to buy it and let it sit there and do nothing!!

  • No stock. Although in their website few stores are said to have low stock, doesnt mean they really have them. for example sunshine store, they said they sold out long time ago. went there this morning.

  • +1

Just buy it! The famous saying goes "A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist"
