    These allow me to run HDMI sound from a BluRay player to a sound base/bar "directly" without it going through a projector. Bedroom setup.

    Also a USB stick loaded with FLAC files can be played through the BluRay player without the projector being on.

    Purchased two.

    Price wise,compared to eBay,purchased two BluRay titles "free of charge" :)

    Play audio from Youtube via casting to Chromecast. You need Youtube premium to cast to Chromecast audio, whereas with this you can cast to your audio system without having the TV on.

    You seem to depend on your TV supplying sound to your Sonos playbar via an optical cord.

    If you need to depend on your TV supplying sound to sonos playbar via an optical cable, then the TV should be turned ON. If the music sources are other devices like PS4, yes!!! you can use it without turning on the TV
