Another sticker price drop from last time, with a cashback offer taking the net price a little lower still.

I managed to miss that this dropped to ~$60 during the Black Friday sales, but this new price is still a good deal, especially with competitors starting at $100 for the console version.

This is a solid, light and comfortable wired solution that can also work well as listening headphones. Comes with a 3.5mm 4-pin splitter, making it good for every 3.5mm configuration you can throw at it.

Enjoy!

  • Where do you plug your wired headsets if you don't want to use the controller's audio jack? Or if you have an old Xbone controller without the 3.5mm.

I do not like using controller headphone jacks. The sound becomes BT which is unstable and doesn't compare to a proper amp.

The sound isn't BT via an Xbox One wireless controller, it's a lot higher bandwidth (similar to Wi-Fi direct, as traditional bluetooth latency would be unacceptable for a controller or audio in fast-paced games).

I've heard the audio quality is pretty decent, but the next option for you would be using the optical out to a mixer, or a solution via your TV/monitor.

EDIT: for PS4 users who want a wireless solution, consider the Arctis 7 when it goes on sale next (~$140). For Xbox One, you'll need a third party solution to pass through, or a really expensive wireless headset solution like the Arctis Pro.

It's still going to be wireless audio coming from your wired headphones. It just isn't the same. And it's only going to sound as good as the DAC built into your controller, which I do not expect to be very good.

How did Xbox wired headsets work before they put the audio jack into the new controllers? Did they come with their own mix amp?

        • I'm not too familiar with the components used, so I can't really comment much further. The key point is there's enough bandwidth for a much better codec than SBC to be used.

  • I got the Arctis 7 on sale the other day and I think it’s pretty shit sounding for the money. Lacks punch for music.

    • Taste in headphones is a pretty diverse thing, but these review well because they are a balanced sound and respond well to equalisation tuning.

If you're using them on a PC or an Android phone, you can tweak your EQ profile to your own taste. :)

  • I have an Arctis 3 for 2 years now, definitely recommended if anyone's looking to get it
