  • i heard the game itself is good but they kept the shitty controls?

opinions? ozbargainers do u think its worth ?

    • It is my understanding that the controls are not "shitty" in this version.

Bluepoint (the developer) did update the control scheme - generally regarded as better than the original. You probably got confused. It's the camera angle (auto adjust) that can still be annoying at times. I really enjoyed it, played it 3 times (+ 2 sets of time attacks). It will somewhat depends on what you've played this year (i.e. whether you played God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2 already). I am certainly glad that I played Shadow of Colossus before God of War and RDR2 (on XB1X/4K). The camera angle can be frustrating in time attack modes (esp. hard mode).

You basically fight 16 bosses. Price is okay (though I got it for around the same price months ago).

Spoiler alert: XCV// has a full set of hard mode time attack videos. His method on those are fantastic. It is a pity he doesn't explain them. For example, Colossus 3 (Gaius), he shows the resist the wrist approach - but you need to watch the video carefully to figure out the timing of the jump (it's not luck - it is something that can be done every time). Colossus 9, 11 - very efficient. His approach on the final colossus is really optimised.

      • dam thanks man! appreciate it

I might ask a staff mate to grab me one so i can get it cheaper. I'd probably buy it. doesnt sound too bad.

        • Suggest you watch a playthrough video (just part 1) and see if you like it first. Some children I know don't like this game.

If you are playing story mode, then you don't need to use XCV//'s method. I don't think it is a good idea to go for resist the wrist approach on Gaius (#3) the first time.

          • @netsurfer: ohh thanks fam, I'd definitely play story mode only. im literally the shittiest player if any game is higher than easy.

@HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal: Honestly I played it day it came out earlier this year and even though the controls have been updated, the general mechanics and movement of the character felt very annoying to me at some sections. Was enjoyable overall, but imo can be quite annoying at some times.

@HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal: Like Asterix pointed out, this game can be quite frustrating at times because:

              • There is no auto-aim, so when you are using bow and arrows, you need to aim manually. Even with Colossus 2, you have to use arrow(s) first, then switch to sword.
              • Mid way through, you will need to ride your horse and shoot arrows concurrently. With Colossus 10, you will be forced off the Colossus even if you have Queens Sword, so you have to ride your horse and shoot arrows successfully at least twice.
              • Colossus 14 is very annoying to me (really lousy gamer). No auto-aim is less of an issue for 14, the jumps from horse to it I struggle big time. You are forced off that Colossus twice generally - so 3 sets of attacks needed normally for 14.
              • Colossi not behaving as expected. There are times where a colossus needs to do something and on occasions that colossus might just stay in the wrong position (not moving) or not doing what it supposed to do.
              • Playing it safe vs more aggressive - how much grip you use when stabbing (every colossus generally tries to shake you off), the location you stab do matter and the margin for error is different for different colossi. Colossus 8 for example, the margin is low. Aim accurately otherwise if your sword hit its armor, zero damage. On the other hand, for a lot of other collosi, a slightly off center location could be better (and you can get better grip).

Most youTubers played the PS2 and/or PS3 versions of this game already so they don't explain the basics and the quirks to you. And when things don't go according to plan, they know what to do.

              • @netsurfer: Sorry, Colossus 13 is the one which I struggle all the time, not 14.

  • Same price from Amazon AU, if you have Prime Membership

    • Amazon is now $23 … so this is $3 cheaper (and no delivery charge or Prime Membership fee).

Didn't realise it went up. Sorry.

  • My girl got this for $19 for chrissy during the black friday sales. Keen to give it a go when the time comes. This is a classic i missed out on from the PS2 days.

  • played this in ps2 days, masterpiece and at the time was a huge technical achievement in terms of graphics and animations, it maxxed out the ps2's hardware and infamously ran at 13 Frames per second.

    Highly recommend this game
