  • Wish this world with Google hub

    • You can use Mi Home with Google home, so maybe?

      • Maybe not. There's only a few tiny things that work with Google home

        • I'm sure someone will write integration for this. This price is crazily cheap for a smart doorbell let alone the one with face recognition so it would be hugely popular

  • The gif on the site shows the camera being hung up by double sided tape… Surely that's not right…

    • Supposedly has ability to alert if its being tampered with as well

Handy for those in a rental if could be like that

    • Check the disassembly photo. There are also holes for it to be screwed to the wall.

I am super excited to try one of these out. But it looks like they will be retailing for around $33 USD in china. https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/11/30/xiaomi-crowdfunds-the-…

Which means that when they are officially releases (and not preorder) the price will probably drop quite a bit. Probably not worth preordering.

    • Um those prices are always higher at retail than what is stated, always. Doubt they will drop a lot when it is already fairly cheap. A lot of Xiaomi stuff does drop in fairness.

I think the plug in and play nature of this will mean it's far more attractive to mass market vs the other doorbell which require professional installation.

    Can't wait to try also.

Some info on this Camera https://youtu.be/4adAomx_wG4?t=45

There is another one coming from Xiaomi as well that comes with a separate 7" screen so you can see who is at your door.

    Info on that one https://youtu.be/4adAomx_wG4?t=141

Oh, and Ikea is going to start selling Smart Home products that will work with the Xiaomi Smarthome Ecosystem! Info at the beginning of the above video.

  • I pulled the trigger and have purchased one. Though $0.76 postage nearly killed the deal.

If you have accumulated GB points you can use 544 points and reduce the price to $69.42.

I will be installing it behind a security door where no one can touch it and disturb me.

    Thanks, asa79 :)

is it cloud based for facial recognition ?

guess now the chinese know who their citizens visit when overseas.

the screen based unit bight be good substitute for the ring door bells which need mobile phone.

Doesnt anyone have any privacy or security concerns with this?

"Free cloud video storage and AI face identification".

How could this data be used? Who has access to it, and what if its cloud storage security became compromised? With SD memory so cheap, it's questionable that this is made for data gathering by offering cloud storage.

  • The 720p does not fill me with confidence. I have discovered that video quality is very important with a doorbell, combined with time taken to get an alert. I'm waiting for a deal on the Ring2 or possibly better (when it's officially released locally) the nest hello…. I do need to do some more investigation though. The nest hello currently appears to be the preferred option as (according to some reviews) the image quality is great and the time taken between button pressing and an alert on the mobile is measured in less than a second, plus it supports 5GHz wifi.

FWIW I paid about $50 for a 1080p video doorbell (https://www.mydigoo.com/Digoo-SB-XYA-New-Upgrade-Wireless-Fu…) and the image quality from that was pretty ordinary. Better than 720p, but it was still a struggle to identify people at times. This was because, although the resolution was good, the quality of the sensor and lens was poor so it struggled showing definition of faces of people at the door in the shade with a bright background. It is also possible that the video was being degraded due to my slow upload speed. Still, I kept using it until yesterday when a gorilla pressed the button so hard it failed, so am now back to the old school door bell (actually the DG-ZTA chime & button that linked in with the old video doorbell).

    • This is not a subscription based doorbell so you paying alot more for nest or ring

      • I understand that - the free cloud storage with the digoo door bell was one of the features that appealed to me as well. Actually, I have other cameras outside the house (that saves direct to my local nas) so I can live without storing the doorbell video. In any case, I'm going to wait and see what the quality of the images are and what delay there is between the button being pressed and the app alerting you.

  • I have a Ring 2 installed and the subscription is making me move towards this!

  • If this can hook into local storage and home assistant automation then it's a big win

I hope the HW is good and someone manages to reverse engineer it for Home Assistant integration also!

Home Assistant loves Xiaomi gear so fingers crossed.

  • Thanks OP. Got one.
