The Grainfather, is your all in one brewing system, to make beer from grain. The sleek look, user friendly, intuitive design, and innovative features, make this your perfect brewing companion for both experienced and beginner all grain brewers.

It is made from high quality 304 grade stainless steel with a 30 L capacity, designed to make up to 23 L of beer from one brew.

Features

– Electric

The Grainfather is electrically powered and designed to be used indoors. No need for burners, or hot plates, just plug in and go! It is fitted with a controlled heating element so that the correct power can be used depending on what stage of the brewing process you are at. A gentler heat is used at certain stages for accurate temperature control and and to minimise the risk of scorching and after the mash it can also ramp up the heat quickly for when more vigorous heating is required. Heating from mash to boil takes as little as 20 minutes.

– Control Box for Heat & Power Control

Use the Connect Control Box in conjunction with the Connect App and Grainfather Brewing Community for the ultimate brewing experience. Create your recipes on the Grainfather Brewing Community and then sync these recipes with the Connect app. The control box has Bluetooth connection to your mobile device so it can be controlled remotely. This allows you to multitask or simply relax while brewing and then be alerted when to return to your next step.

-Pump

A 6 Watt, 1,800 RPM magnetic powered pump has been fitted to recirculate the wort through the grain bed for maximum brewing efficiencies. This is also used during the cooling stage to pump hot wort through the wort chiller. The pump also makes the cleaning process quick and easy by pumping the cleaning detergent through all the pipe work. The magnetic drive pump has been selected after rigorous testing of multiple pump styles to ensure it meets the tough demands required of continuous brewing. The pump is concealed by a stainless pump cover, which is easy to pop open, giving you direct access. A pump filter is fitted inside the Grainfather to prevent hops and stray grain from entering the pump or pipework, keeping the wort clear while also preventing any blockages.

– Grain Basket

A stainless steel expandable grain basket allows you to brew with anything from 4.5 – 9 kg of grain. The fitted perforated plates and telescopic pipework allow you to easily adjust the size of the grain basket to suit the size of grain bill. Fit the Micro Pipework (sold separately) for grain bills below 4.5 kg. When ready for sparging, a basket lifting handle is then inserted into the grain basket to lift it up, out of the wort. A 45 degree turn then allows the grain basket’s feet to rest on the specially designed support ring to allow the grain basket to drain while you can batch sparge over the top. A Sparge Water Heater can be purchased additionally to heat your water to the specific temperature required.

– Counter Flow Wort Chiller

A counter flow wort chiller has two connection points. One side is connected to the Grainfather, while the other is connected to the cold tap water. The hot wort is then pumped through copper inner coil while the cold water is pumped through the outer in the opposite direction, providing instant cooling and heat exchange. The cooled wort can then be pumped directly into your clean, sterile fermenter. This reduces the chance of contamination as nothing is inserted in the wort, and it is only passing through the wort chiller one single time, going straight to the sterile fermenter where the yeast is added.

23 L of wort can be cooled in as little as 20 minutes. The cooled wort temperature will be cooled to approximately 5 degrees above whatever your tap water temperature is.

  • That is 20% off.

    • Was gona ask what the bargain is. Man i wish funds permitted to retire the epic tower i use at the moment!

  • This is in Brisbane…Virginia QLD

  • Now, if they would knock 20% off the new glycol chiller, I might get interested.

  • I know full grain is supposed to be better but extracts are so much easier n quicker. A mate has one and they are great but it takes a couple of hrs for a brew and i am just not patient enough!!! Great price though👍🏻👍🏻

    • Not suppose to…. Is better.

And it's also like cooking from scratch compared to cooking from a bottle or packet mix.

Takes longer, but definitely tastes better and you're actually more involved in the creation process.

No more involved than a small mash, 20 minute boil, double hop, then dry hop…. each to their own. I like my beers strong(alcohol) and mega hoppy(min. 2 additions and a dry hop). I can get that from an extract without expending 2-3 hrs and spending $1k-$1.5k for a setup…… guess I’m a true tightass???

  • Will this turn you into the beer baron 😁

  • Can anyone comment on how it compares to a robobrew?

Stivo, I suggest you visit YouTube and search "robobrew vs grainfather" and you'll find a crapload of video comparisons and reviews. Also google it and there's a million more comparos on sites like aussiehomebrewer for example. A great thing about the robobrew is that there is a reflux still kit for $150 from kegland and there is a pot still as well, which is handy if you're over beer and want to go hardcore. Also you can make some great Christmas presents for your pisspot family and mates with a still. Not sure if there is a still that you can whack straight on the grainfather, probably, but robobrew is regarded as better value because it's heaps cheaper and it does the job. Also there are plenty of hacks and modifications available. Good luck with your research, it's a good hobby to get into. Cheers!

Update after looking at online comparisons:
Robo version 3 is great, easy to use for a beginner like me and I've done 6 brews with mine and they've all been good. Grainfather info below is from review sites not from personal experience:

Both do the job just fine by all reports but you can buy 3 Robos for price of 1 GF.
GF pros: bluetooth app available but you need the bluetooth capable controller version of the GF (iOS and android apps available), GF has a better cooler, easier to read the controller display because it points in an upwards direction but that's no biggie
Robo pros: about 1/3 of the price, main unit and lid both have handles (GF doesn't have on either the main unit or lid), camlock fitting for top tube versus screw fitting on the GF, can drain the Robo by opening the bottom tap (GF you have to pump out or maybe tip out if you're brave), reflux and pot stills are cheap ($150) and easy to attach and use if you want one (for GF you can get a pot still attachment only and it costs $450), Robo bottom filter is supposedly better than cylindrical filter the GF uses.

Don't waste your cash, go for the Robo unless you're a GF fanboy. To sum it up Grainfather = iPhone X and the Robobrew V3 = Moto G6 plus.

Make sure you get the V3 Robo not an earlier version because V3 significantly improves on the earlier Robos which had a few design and some quality issues. You can buy a better cooler for the Robo if you don't like the standard one and still be heaps in front compared to the GF. There is also a 65 litre Robo V3 on the market, don't know much about it but be aware that it uses a 15 amp power plug not a standard 10 amp plug.

So I own a grainfather and a guten.

The grainfather is worth the money and I use it most of the time, the build quality is good, the controller and software are great, you can build the recipe on your PC or phone and zap it to the controller. It comes with the counterflow chiller which is fine too. Unlike the guten or robobrew the pump still works after you whirlpool 250g of hops without a hop spider.

Although I see the new 65l robo has a screen, and the guten advises no pump use over 80c.

Imported my own 50L guten prior to keg king distributing them, I use it for double batches and always no-chill, it can fill 2 HDPE cubes, works as expected but the controller sucks much like the robobrews. The quality is acceptable.

I know 2 robobrew owners, they are avid and regular brewers and both regret their decisions. I believe they are both on their second replacement due to quality issues. They work and you can make beer with them, they are cheap, if you want to brew a dozen times a year I'd say it might be for you. You'd get more mileage out of a crown urn and biab setup.

I would not in any way suggest buying the grainfather over a robobrew or guten is wasting money. Just like any product, the cheapest has its drawbacks if you use it more than occasionally.

    • also consider the Guten option.
better built than the robobrew, from reviews, and well liked on the AHB forum.
Also available in other countries under different names and gets good wraps.

      • 50 litre Guten costs $730 to $740 plus delivery from a couple of Aussie website sellers, is that the normal price or do you know if it's available cheaper? Looks like it's priced about halfway between the Robo and GF?

        • thats 50L…
compare the 40L if you want the same size as robo and grainfather
          its $499

          its enough for single batches

50L needs 15A circuit and is for double/larger batches
