  • Anyone have this phone as a daily? Any issues?

  • Wow, Bargain. And I thought getting a Redmi 6A for $147 was good :/ bugger lol

      Xiaomi will give you one thing guaranteed - regular updates. With Sharp/Foxconn, you can forget the updates.

      • +4

        They’ll give you regular MIUI updates, not Android updates. I.e. themes and UI will change slightly, yet you’ll still be stuck with an OS without constant security updates.

          My redmi note 4 got an android security update dated 1 Oct 2018 last week.

          • +1

            @bobdobal: My Redmi 6A just got the same 1 October security patch as part of an MIUI update

          go with an android one phone ….get android version updates and security updates ….

      • Last update was May 1st patch

  • Does this phone have wireless charging?

    • +1

      Does not appear to be so. A bit odd to include free wireless charger when the phone dont do wireless charging.

      Evenso. Thats a lot of phone for not much cash.

  • Anyone have this?

    Does this have a notification led?

      WatchNerd has a screw-down crown.

      • Scab has a leather strap.

  • Looks like 2 separate card trays - could be useful to keep my irreplaceable shoddily hand cut nano sim in one.

  • good find.. so many decent 4gb/64gb possibilities around now at or below 200..
    another good one for people to be aware of locally is huawei nova3e (aka p20 lite). If you can get it on bigw 10% off sale and pay with ww egift card it is worth considering, great phone also. and no 1-2 month wait.

    • How much can the 3e be found for?

      • +1

        cheapest Ive seen it is $280 on an ebay deal (20% off) with the Good guys https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Huawei-1101001851-Nova-3e-64…

      • sorry, my fault, didn't mean 200 at all, "almost" down to the 300 dollar mark is what I should have said (I did manage this with bigw) so admittedly quite a premium on some of the direct-from-China offerings around. apologies.. I am loving the nova 3e a month on though, snappy, runs cool with great battery life and no big weaknesses.

  • Sharp price but not so sharp looks.

    I just got an email from them that the free gift (the wireless charging base) is out of stock, so sorry, shall we just ship the phone? No big deal, but perhaps this is the out of stock equivalent of bait-and-switch.

  • I don't see where on the page it says includes free wireless charger or has it been removed?

  • Now price is back up to US$119.99

    Any one had their phone sent yet? Mine still says processing…

    • I contacted the company, and they provided me with tracking details and its been post about two weeks ago even though it said processing.

  • Mine still says processing as well ?

    My phone arrived yesterday and all was well till opening the sd card tray and it got stuck halfway and wouldn't come out. I managed to get it out but damaged the internals as it wouldn't go back in. Luckily the main sim tray works and the phone has 64gb of storage.

    • Any chance you could test if the phone supports hevc 10bit video in hardware with MX Player?

      Very interested in purchasing if it does!

      • Sorry I'm unsure how to test this.

        • If you don't already have it you can get MX Player free version from Play store.

          Then simply try playing one of the many test videos available on the net.

          These are probably the most famous ones:

          http://www.jell.yfish.us/

          Pick for example the lowest bitrate one from there eg:

          http://www.jell.yfish.us/media/jellyfish-3-mbps-hd-hevc-10bi…

          While playing the 10bit hevc clip with MX Player touch the screen so that you see the player controls like pause, fast forward etc.

          At the top right of the screen next to subtitle, audio options etc there should be some letters: HW, HW+ or SW.

          If HW or HW+ is showing then there is 10bit Hevc Hardware support.

          If SW then only software 10bit Hevc support

          By touching the letters MX Player should also give you the option of switching between HW+, HW and SW.

          If for example while the clip is playing SW is showing at the top right hand corner you can touch the SW and it should give the option to select either HW or HW+ and give you a message if they are supported.

            @prxy: Got my phone today. Plays X265 HEVC 10 bit fine.

            • @Zegga: Good to know.

              But is that software only decoding or is it supported in hardware?

              I'm interested in hardware decoding because of battery saving.

              Thanks

              • +1

                @prxy: Said HW decoding not supported

                • @Zegga: Did you try HW+ as well (thats MX Players own unofficial hardware implementation)?

                  • @prxy: That options was greyed out.

                    • @Zegga: Are you happy with the phone any unexpected surprises?

                      How would you rate:

                      camera

                      performance

                      reception

                      battery life

                    • @Zegga: Also forgot to mention sometimes you have to manually enable HW+ in MX Player:

                      Make sure all the following are selected (have a tick next to them)

                      Settings -> Decoder -> HW+ decoder (local)

                      Settings -> Decoder -> HW+ decoder (network)

                      Settings -> Decoder -> Try HW decoder

                      Settings -> Decoder -> Try HW+ decoder

                      Settings -> Decoder -> HW+ video codecs -> h265

                      Settings -> Decoder -> HW+ video codecs -> h265 10bits
                      (even if it doesn't have hardware accelerated next to it)
