Thanks jepiterr! Have been waiting for a good deal on one of these :)

No worries mate! I've had my eye on them for a while as well and saw it pop up in the $30 off Newegg thread. Thought it deserved it's own dedicated bargain in case anyone missed it ;)

Once you buy one of these you instantly become a popular youtube personality

      Or a cam girl.

I have found these to be basically an overpriced desk ornament. If you are half way serious about whatever you are recording then you’d seek a more legit setup (non-USB mic). I’m not sure this is much better than any other cheap USB mic in reality for various reasons.

The price is still pretty good if you’re into the ornament. These things are massive so it’s a solid hunk of kit for the price.

a blue snowball provides the same quality 90% of yeti users would want for under half the price, at regular prize a rode nt-usb (australian company btw) will provide way better quality for the same price. at this price it's a good deal but 90% of the people who are going to buy it would be better served by something half the price.

    • Any links to 'more legit setup' options?

Eh if you barely use a mic then that's a fair comment. But I'll use it considerably for Skype and gaming sessions so I see the value. At more than 50% of RRP (considering the fact this is a highly rated mic even at RRP), it's definitely worth it to some.

I think it’s reasonable with this price - certainly not what they normally go for.

    • I get what you are coming at, but I doubt a professional voiceover or music producer is looking for a mic on OzBargain. Most will get it for casual use like games where just plugging in a USB is much more convenient then having phantom power supplies and whatnot. On that note though, it probably wouldn't be that good for games because you'd mostly only have room to put it behind your keyboard and that's a no no.

  • So CHEAP!

  • -1

not the best since there is a customs duty

    • +1

also its retailed at 129 at kogan on every day im pretty sure if you dont wanna pay customs

    • +2

Not sure what other duty would be collected, as the above price is GST-inclusive

  • This guy on youtube doesn't like them - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa9SbQWyex0

    • But every other Youtuber does.

      • I feel like he is so sure about how shit they are I believe he knows more than every other youtuber. Perhaps he's just raging at a good mic for no reason, the other possibility.

    • Oh yea, trust a video with 60% dislikes

      • My friend, you must have a very high opinion of the average youtuber. I watched most of this video and he knows what he is talking about, unlike 99% of people slamming that dislike.

        • People don't realise how much marketing goes on with all those other YouTube's sponsored to have them in frame and hype it up.

All the marketing hype in the world doesn't stop it being an oversensitive condenser mic.

      • I think this is why.

        https://youtu.be/LUhdIsLKEvU

So some points in the videos are still true.

        • I'm not going to get involved in this youtube drama

  • Good deal! Amazon have it on sale for ~$155 delivered as part of Cyber Monday sales on .com

  • This podcast brought to you by Gamefly, Squarespace, Harry's, Blue Apron, Hello Fresh, Cachefly, Ridge Wallets, For Him's and Onnit supplements!

    • What about the tooth brush thing.

  • Bought one at $179

  • Picked one. Thanks for sharing.

I wanted one of these for ages, when I finally got one I realized how absolutely useless it was. It picks up every damn sound in the world. You'll also need to buy a mic stand because if you have it on your desk it picks up every single damn keyboard hit you do. To counter it picking up everything in the world I need to lower its gain or whatever by a stupid amount and then have my face right up on it for it to pick me up. My headset mic is very clear and doesnt present me with this level of rubbish. Worst purchase ever. Next to whatever other worst purchase ever I made that was worst.

    • That's true. I usually use software such as Audacity to post-process the recordings.

    • +1

Its probably the kind of thing you would use in a quiet place witha quiet keyboard and maybe some sound proofing while you're at it

      • Definitely. My keyboard is just a normal logitech keyboard. Not super loud. My room is unfortunately not sound proof, as arent most people. I think this thing seems to be selling better than it should compared to other mics out there. Almost like those stupid gaming chairs. It's like the cool thing to have if you want something like that. Also its huge and heavy.

    • While these things are over priced for what they are, complaining about the lack of sound isolation when strong pick up is the reason people use condenser mics, is a bit unfair lol.

Besides, from what I've heard, isn't it really easy to configure that? I thought the yeti was designed to be super easy to use.

      • People get these for podcasts and stuff like that. It may be a condesner but it has settings to cut out outside sound and only pick up things close to it. Which is the whole point of a podcast mic. Yes they're easy to configure. But does it do what you want? Not in my experience. And when I say it picks up keyboard strokes, I dont mean simple ticktickclackclack. I'm talking juraccis park style hits. This thing is a waste of time. Its perfect however for studios that are soundproofed and you have the mic hanging from above and all you're doing is talking. But if you think really hard, how many studios or high end podcast shows even use this mic? I only see them on gamer channels because they're a hive mentality who also think the racing gaming chairs are awesome and needed to be a gamer on twitch. Far better mics out there.

  • This is a very good mic. I am using one of them and keep loving it.

The quality is very good and yes, this price is a big bargain.

  • I love the sound of my voice, so i wouldnt mind spending money to record it.

  • Thanks OP, purchased a blue one, only the white one now has the same price. Platinum seems to have gone up.

  • Update for anyone who actually ended up buying:

Newegg said they shipping on Wednesday the 28th, but in reality they only submitted the shipping label to FedEx. It was only picked up today. If your order is stuck on ‘Shipping information sent to Fed Ex’ it’s because they abysmally slow at actually delivering to the courier, and are most likely doing it massively in bulk.
