Damn seems like triple a games are cheaper on console these days plus you get a physical copy which I like as a semi-collector. Bought a one x from the amazon deal and tempted to keep it and not upgrade my PC.

I’m in the same boat as you, this is ridiculous

      • +5

Yeah I'm still rocking my 970 from years ago. Given the price of high end graphics cards these days and the slow increase in pc prices especially now we are paying in AUD, pc is no longer the cheaper option that some used to suggest.

        • Agreed! My 780 died the other day and I’m stuck deciding what to do. The only thing that’s really stopping me is my steam library

          • +4

@czd: Your library will always be there though, so if the games are good and will age well you could put Steam on the back-burner for a year or three… or you could get a second hand 970 to get through it and then be done with it :) I bought an Xbox One X during the last JB deal and have decided that PC gaming at the moment isn't worth it for me.

            • @bataleon: I feel ya. 10 years strong with the PC race, but times they are a changin’. My PS4 Pro has had me quite satisfied for the past 1.5yrs. Sure I’d love a 2080 TI, but it’s not as vast a difference in ‘experience’ anymore. Steam will always be there, I may come back in time.

              • @[Deactivated]: Same, I love PC gaming but it's getting hard to justify. Especially seeing as I don't play competitive FPS and MMO games. As far as consoles go I've aways owned PlayStations, this is my first Xbox just to change things up a bit. There's no doubt I'll be back in the PlayStation family as soon as TLOU 2 is released though! :)

Looked at upgrading my PC as my cpu is the bottleneck now being a 2011 i5 2500k overclocking to 5ghz with a GTX 1070. Looking at an upgrade required a new mobo, CPU and ram. That's over $1500 worth of stuff even with my old case, 1070 and fans. I'm never doing pc gaming again. I'd buy an Xbox one X in a heartbeat if my current machine died. At least I can watch digital foundry videos and match an Xbox one X resolution and graphics with a 30 fps cap with the current setup but most games aren't optimised for PC like consoles because they're raw ports most the time. I spent 4 hours on assassin's Creed Odyssey getting it to run at near 4k and 30 fps. I ended up with exactly the same experience as a one X but my GTX 1070 cost as much as a single Xbox one X at launch.

Played ac origins halfway and decided I would never touch ac game ever again. It is too much just slash and kill, go to the next objective. Rdr2 makes that game look so stupid.

    • +4

Honestly I like both. Red Dead has a better story, but Origins had some fantastic atmosphere and sense of place.

      • +1

I like the realism in rdr2, the hunting, fishing, skinning, or even just exploring and maintaining the horse. I feel I can take a brake from following missions. The stranger missions are fantastic. There is a lot of sense in Arthur's character too.

Ac origins to me is just like upgrade one thing to another, collect more bronze, iron, or wood, and upgrade, and go to next mission, and so on. How is that after I kill some and hide, the npc seem to forget someone was killed?

Anyway just my personal opinion. Rdr2 isn't perfect either, no fast travel for example, horse keep hitting trees, etc.

    • +2

If you didn’t like Origins you likely won’t like Odyssey. I thought both were great games though.

    • +1

I enjoyed Origins but there was too much leveling up required to progress. Spent almost 80h on the game and decided to give Odyssey a miss. Too many other games to play through first and by then the next Assassins Creed will be out.

Played a bit of RDR2 and liking it so far but need to spend to quality time - i.e. more than an hour at a time.

    • +1

yeh they overdid it with ac origins. theres just too much content. content for the sake of content. i would much rather short and sweet than unnecessarily long. it got to the point where i just stopped playing and havent gone back. i honestly thought i was near the end and it just kept going, and this was around the 40hr mark.

I've never been a huge fan of AC games but really enjoyed origins and Odyssey was amazing. Great story.

Faster paced the RDR2, and I like that they give you more choice to be silent or just go in and start hacking away.

I would recommend playing it on hard and playing as the girl character however. Alexios voice acting got annoying after a while.

    NTSC version.

    • +4

Xbox and PS4 are region free so this doesn’t really matter

      • Keep in mind you'll have to buy any DLC from the US/North American PlayStation Store if you buy the US version of the game.

        • Yes true. This only impacts PS4 not Xbox

I was a big fan of AC Games till AC 2 revelations. After that there was a big gap Until I picked up AC unity and syndicate for cheap. Tried to play AC unity. I felt it was boring and repetitive. Just over a month ago i reluctantly picked up AC origins and loved it. It was a welcome departure from usual AC game dynamics. I will surely be playing AC Odessey but only after RDR2.

Just FYI to anyone looking to pick this one up. Ubisoft have confirmed they wont be releasing an assasins creed game in 2019. They are planning to extend Odyssey with lots of extra dlc. Currently the season pass is $60. Will be picking it up once it's on special.

Microsoft have the gold edition which includes season pass for $95 if you have xbox live gold membership.

If you sign up on a new account and then get prime trial, you get $15 credit but the catch is minimum spend of $30 is required and it has to be on their mobile app.

For me, I have ordered Amazon Basics Ethernet cable for $5.24 and AC Odyssey for $27 which is $32.24. Shipping is $6.39, so a total of USD $38.93.

After the reward, it is $25.99 delivered.

    image 1: in AUD

    image 2: in USD

For the second item, cheaper item may be found that ships to australia. A total of AUD $37.34 is truly amazing!

    steps:

    1. Go to Amazon US or create a new account and switch to US Amazon

    2. Sign up with Prime. 30 day trial is recommended

    3. Download the app

    4. Go to settings on the app and switch region to US

    5. Press the three bars in the app on the top left corner or swipe to the right from left

    6. Select Prime, it will open a page that shows 3 ticks.

    7. Claim Reward

    8. Add Odyssey and amazon basics ethernet cable

    9. Then checkout using AUD/USD

No cashback as far as I am aware unless cashrewards/shopback offers in US Amazon.

(if it does not let you claim the reward on phone then go to amazon US site on desktop and select prime and the same offer page that you saw on mobile should open. Go to phone app after claiming the reward on desktop.
