littleBits provide an easy path for kids to take their first steps into the world of electronics. More info in this TED talk.

The only downside to littleBits is that they're usually ridiculously expensive. This Gizmos and Gadgets kit had an original RRP of $399, Jaycar have been selling it for $299 and the cheapest price I could find anywhere else was Harvey Norman with a "Clearance" price of $247.

Also available is the littleBits Rule Your Room kit for $74.95 (down from $149).
